Wedges and Polish Pairings

wedges, west town mall, nail polish, rack room shoes, sephora nail polish, pedicure ideas, open toe shoes, black wedges, tan wedges, white wedgesA couple months ago, I swore to my husband that this summer I was not going to try and reach around my bulging pregnant belly to paint my toes. I said I was going to get a pedicure every time!

…So far that hasn’t happened. But this I promise you – it will happen! At some point before I have this baby I will find the time to get a pedicure!

Until then, let’s look at these polish and wedge pairings for our feet this summer.

All of these wedges can be found at Rack Room Shoes in West Town Mall. All of the nail polishes are by Nails and can be found at Sephora (which now has a mini shop open in JCPenney!).

I like to go a little bolder on my toes sometimes and this colbalt blue will definitely grab you by the eyeballs. I think these subdued black cut out wedges would be a perfect pairing for something so playful.

No matter what age you are, you can dive right into the lace trend with these cute white lace wedges. They’ve GOT to be comfortable since there’s not one pressure point on your foot. So that’s a plus, and pairing them with a bright coral polish is a plus plus seeing as how your feet will be really on trend. Listen if our feet can’t get with the times, why are we even trying?

Let’s talk easy breezy for a moment. This nude low-wedge sandal looks to me like it’s begging for the nickname, “Old Faithful” as in – I can reach for these any time and they’ll go with whatever I’m wearing while still being wildly comfortable. Lets balance out the look of dependability with a crazy fun polish like emerald green.

I used the word “subdued” earlier to describe that first pair of black cut out wedges, but that word doesn’t belong in the same room as these shoes. That word goes running out of the building the minute these black cut out wedges show up. How wildly fun are these!? And speaking of wild fun, let’s keep it going all night by making your pedicure a shiny silver metallic color. Yow-zah! Pair these two with a simple black dress or another subdued basic so as to keep that spotlight pointed directly at your feet!

Easy Metallic Nails

opi, metallic nails, metallic nail color, nail polish, this weeks nails, how to paint your nails, knoxville fashion, sunsphere, knoxville sunsphere, metallic manicure, haven't the foggiest

I feel as if I need to write OPI an apology letter.

Someone complimented my polish the other day and I didn’t. remember. the name.So sorry, OPI. You all are naming geniuses and half the fun of wearing the polish is rattling off the clever title you’ve given the color!

I’m happy to report I’ve since looked it up and can tell you that the name of this dark silver metallic color is, “Haven’t the Foggiest” (What would have been awesome times 1,000 is if I would have answered with, “I haven’t the foggiest idea” when asked the name…that could have been so ironic).

I need to stock up on metallic colors like this because they are perfect for Saturday nights like I had this past week.

I paint my nails every weekend, and this particular Saturday left me completely drained. I couldn’t, however, bring myself to waking up the next morning with the mess my nails were, so I pressed through and gave myself a manicure.

Since painting right before bed usually ends up in a mashed mess, I always paint only the first coat of polish then go to bed. This way if things do get smashed I can put another coat on in the morning, and I don’t have to wait as long for it to dry. Thankfully this color can totally look good in just one coat, so I was up and at ’em in the morning without having to give my nails a second thought.

Mani Monday

black nails

 black nails

You can say things like “gray is the new black” or, “orange is the new black”, but the fact remains, black still dominates. When you’re the color all other colors are trying to replace – you are boss. Think about it, does, “gray is the new yellow” work? No. It doesn’t.

I thought black nails would be a fitting mani color for the first week of fall. But I didn’t want to stop there. I wanted to liven it up with a mattifier and give it that cool flat black edge – not that black needs more edge, but you get my drift.

The mattifier I use is Essie’s Matte About You. OPI makes a version as well. The trick is to wait until your mani is completely dry because sometimes the mattifier can make it malleable. Ha. Then you end up with a malleable matte mani Monday.

….aaaand I’m out of “M” words to add to that.

Try this with one of your favorite nail colors. It gives it a whole new look and really adds dimension…or I guess in this case, takes it away!

Labor Day!

nails

This past week I took a much needed vacation. I had a break from more than just deadlines and alarm clocks, I also decided to go the full week without color on my nails. I haven’t done that in over 6 years…

Aside from the occasional, “Ah! Who’s hand is that!?” moments, it was nice to give my nails a break.

I hope you’re able to take a break from something today or maybe sometime this week. Even a break from something you love is nice every once in a while. I helps clear your mind and come back loving it even more! Now excuse me while I go get every nail polish I own and paint my every finger nail… ;)

What Color to Paint Your Nails

A general rule of mine is to never and match my nails to anything other than my mood.

On a regular week I don’t like to match them to what I’m wearing because that is going to change so often it wouldn’t even matter. I’m happy as long as my nails are preened and painted.

But when it comes to a big event, say a sister-in-laws wedding…then you throw that rule out the window and match it to your dress.

I didn’t have the dress I wore till two days before the wedding (more on that tomorrow), so I had to pre-determine what colors to go with on my nails and toes based on the colors I knew the dress would have.

Here are three steps to help you determine your nail colors…

1. Try not to match your manicure to what you’re wearing.
When you match, the colors don’t compliment each other, they compete.

2. If you’re wearing a pattern, pull from one of the less dominate colors in it.
That’s what I did for my nails. I knew the dress had some white in it, so I went for a white nail color that had a little twinge of yellow in it so as to make it softer. Plus when you are wearing an all over pattern, your nails don’t need to be equally loud.

3. Go playful with your toes.
I always like to get a little crazy on my toes.  I considered the kind of shoes I was wearing (sparkly) so I knew a metallic color would be too much. So for this ensemble, I thought about which shade of blue would work, and this lighter (not-quite-robin’s-egg-but-close) shade fit the bill perfectly.

You may be reading this and thinking I’m a crazy person for putting this much thought into my outfit. If you are then I won’t tell you that this is something I do every time I get dressed. Nor will I tell you that most of my time is spent thinking about clothes/beauty/accessories and how to make them all work better.

What you need to do is just be thankful God wired me the way He did, and keep on reading for nuggets of wisdom like this one ;)

*Sorry I can’t get you the polish colors! I actually got a mani-pedi this week! (For the first time in…well I don’t even know) A similar version of the white would be OPI’s “You’re So Vain-illa” and for the blue would be, “Can’t Find My Czechbook.”
