Easy Metallic Nails

I feel as if I need to write OPI an apology letter.

Someone complimented my polish the other day and I didn’t. remember. the name.So sorry, OPI. You all are naming geniuses and half the fun of wearing the polish is rattling off the clever title you’ve given the color!

I’m happy to report I’ve since looked it up and can tell you that the name of this dark silver metallic color is, “Haven’t the Foggiest” (What would have been awesome times 1,000 is if I would have answered with, “I haven’t the foggiest idea” when asked the name…that could have been so ironic).

I need to stock up on metallic colors like this because they are perfect for Saturday nights like I had this past week.

I paint my nails every weekend, and this particular Saturday left me completely drained. I couldn’t, however, bring myself to waking up the next morning with the mess my nails were, so I pressed through and gave myself a manicure.

Since painting right before bed usually ends up in a mashed mess, I always paint only the first coat of polish then go to bed. This way if things do get smashed I can put another coat on in the morning, and I don’t have to wait as long for it to dry. Thankfully this color can totally look good in just one coat, so I was up and at ’em in the morning without having to give my nails a second thought.

Mani Monday

 black nails

You can say things like “gray is the new black” or, “orange is the new black”, but the fact remains, black still dominates. When you’re the color all other colors are trying to replace – you are boss. Think about it, does, “gray is the new yellow” work? No. It doesn’t.

I thought black nails would be a fitting mani color for the first week of fall. But I didn’t want to stop there. I wanted to liven it up with a mattifier and give it that cool flat black edge – not that black needs more edge, but you get my drift.

The mattifier I use is Essie’s Matte About You. OPI makes a version as well. The trick is to wait until your mani is completely dry because sometimes the mattifier can make it malleable. Ha. Then you end up with a malleable matte mani Monday.

….aaaand I’m out of “M” words to add to that.

Try this with one of your favorite nail colors. It gives it a whole new look and really adds dimension…or I guess in this case, takes it away!

You’ve Got to Try This Pedicure

Why have I only gotten a pedicure twice in my life?

It’s so relaxing to let someone else work on your feet while you just sit there. And unlike a massage, you really get to enjoy the effects of the service for weeks with pretty toes!

I really don’t like to paint my toes, so let me declare here and now that I’m getting one more often. And I may just get one that looks like this…

wedding day toes

This is a picture of my sister’s toes on her wedding day! I love the pink color with the fun bedazzlement. It’s not over the top, but it’s a little more special than just the color, making it perfect for such a special day!

Show your pedicurist this picture next time you get your toes done, for something equally as fun!

And for those of you who’ve been following my blog/obsession with nail polish for a while, I’ve officially declared this nail polish my favorite of all time.

silver nails

It’s “Designer De’Better” by OPI, and it’s probably been written about more than anything else on this blog. Ha! Truly.

It was a last minute switch on Sarah’s wedding day. I started with an off-white, but it just looked too harsh and all wrong when I paired it with the pearl and diamond bracelet. I had brought this polish along the day of in the event that I changed my mind. Sure enough I did, and I was glad to have this perfect silver with a slight shimmer of gold nail color. It was a lovely addition to my nails for such a lovely day!

Speaking of lovely days, tomorrow my husband and I celebrate being married for six years! Happy day!

Lilac

Purple is the perfect color. It just is.

If you want to debate me on that, I’ll just throw down the fact that it’s the color of royalty. Boom. Where do you go from there? Nowhere because I won that round.

Pastels have edged out the bright neon colors this spring, and while pastels aren’t my favorite shades I will take pretty much any shade of purple on any given day. That’s why I’ve been loving this shade of lilac.

In fact, this weeks nail color inspired me to purchase some earrings in the same shade. These are from BlueTique, that great little clothing shop in Market Square. And the nail polish is OPI’s “Don’t You Lilac It?”

The juxtaposition of the soft shade with an edgy black makes me fall in love with both colors all over again. So soft, so playful, so perfect. I really do love purple.

Don’t you lilac it, too?

The Best Beauty Products for Spring

I'm buying all of these this spring!
Now that winter is passed, I like to get pumped about showing more skin by looking at what products are going to help me look and feel my best.

Here are the top five I plan to buy this season (translation: be looking for their reviews in future blog posts)…

Lips:

Revlon’s Colorburst Stain Balm promises to take the best of the stain and balm worlds and fuse them together to make one long lasting yet moisturizing burst of color. I can’t wait to try it!

Legs:

Jergens BB Cream for your body with it’s skin brightening/correcting/evening capabilities sounds like just the thing I need for legs that have been in hibernation. (I first alerted you to it here)

Face:

Sephora has an airbrush foundation out that has gotten rave reviews. Apparently all you have to do is spray it on. Sounds like those days I don’t feel like putting any makeup on just got a little more glamorous.
Aveeno’s daily moisturizer is probably going to get the first draft pick over my Oil of Olay lotion. I keep reading how amazing this product is at brightening your skin so alright already! I’ll try it!

Nails:

Just when you thought they couldn’t get any more creative with nail polish, OPI has done it again! Seriously HOW do they think of these things?! I can’t wait to try their new “Sheer Tints” collection. They are super light top coats that layer on the color. Use them alone, or over your favorite polish for a whole new look! How FUN!!

Keep it fresh with these products and a daily dose of Spiff this spring and this will be your best season yet!
