Can we all agree that Old Navy is killing it with the graphic tee’s lately?

I’ve seen no shortage of “Holy Chic” and “Lovely” on Instagram (unfortunately I didn’t grab the one with “Fabulous” down the middle right when I saw it – I went back to get it and they were gone *sad face).

This one I got before those other gems hit the shelves. It was on sale for $4.

I’m very picky with the wording of shirts. You are, after all, a walking billboard, so carefully choosing what you advertise is a wise thing to do. Which is why “fabulous” was going to make the cut – because, well, I am *wink.

But seriously, graphic tees are such a fun way to add diversity to your layers. Because it is like wearing a pattern. And this isn’t a animal print or stripe, so I’m doing good in my goal to buy outside that box! Yay me.

The cardigan I’m wearing is from Forever21 and cost $8. Total so far? $12. The chain necklace I also bought at Forever21 (a year or so ago), it was probably around, lets say $9. The shoes are from Target online – $11. So if you don’t count the jeans, this look only cost me around 32 bucks. Proving you can be Oo La La on a budget!

If you ever see cardigans on sale like that, stock up! They are such a great layering piece for fall!

This is going to be my next graphic tee purchase.

Wrap Up in Scarves

scarves for fall

Some days, my hair and I just need some time off from each other. Like we’ve gotten in an argument and need to go to separate rooms to cool off.

Yesterday, for example, I would have loved to wrap up my whole head in one of these scarves and go hair-free the whole day. Thankfully as I drove home last night with tired eyes, I was able to pin back my bangs with one of the bobby pins I keep in my purse.

No matter how you wear (or dream about wearing) your scarves, here are four from West Town Mall that will add style and pizzazz to your collection this fall…

scarves for fall

Let’s go clockwise, starting with the frayed black and white plaid scarf from Forever21. I’m really coming around to this whole plaid thing. Mainly because it’s another pattern that will allow me to pattern mix! Wear this over a striped shirt, or have it peaking out from a brightly colored coat.

The gray scarf from American Eagle has a really neat crochet-like flower pattern in the middle. Subtle yet sweet. The fringe on the bottom is so different with that extra bit of tassel knitting mastery.

My favorite thing about this “Rose Plaid Quad Scarf” from Express are the colors. The use of purples and pinks is quite the unexpected yet bold mix that would play perfectly with black and white, all black, or a gray ensemble.

Lastly, this Metallic Heart Scarf from Francesca’s is such an airy gorgeous piece. I’m not a huge fan of hearts, but I might be able to make an exception for these tiny gold ones that add just enough glint to a feather-light material.

Speaking of material, notice how each of these scarves vary in fabric? That’s what your collection should look like. Because each fabric/fringe lays on you differently, and not every outfit calls for a bulky scarf. Sometimes you need a lighter fabric with little fringe, and sometimes you need a heavier fabric with lots of fringe. So the answer to your question is, yes. You DO need to go buy more scarves, tell your husband I said so!

Easiest/Cutest Outfit on the Planet

That moment when the bed is a pile of clothes that just don’t work, the clock is ticking down super fast and there’s no outfit satisfaction in sight… I hate those mornings.

Part of me is screaming, “Look at the time! You’ve got to go!” While the other half knows that if I don’t settle on an outfit that I can be happy with, the whole day will be miserable.

That’s why I love combinations like this…

 statement necklace

statement necklace

A blazer, t-shirt, statement necklace, heels and jeans is an outfit saver – day or night.

Why? Because it’s the perfect blend of casual and dressy, which means it all balances out to create a very chic look that works in all kinds of situations.

On the one hand, you’ve got an easy t-shirt and jeans combination. It looks effortless and it’s comfortable. To achieve this all you have to do is stock up on a good pair of jeans and lots of comfortable t-shirts. Easy enough.

On the other hand, you’ve got the blazer, heels and a statement necklace. We all know how far a great blazer will go, and statement necklaces are a cheap/fun thing to stock up on. That leaves the heels which in most cases could be a simple black pump (which you should own, young lady), or you can go crazy and do a patterned pump like I did.

Put it all together and boom. You are ready for anything my friend. And daaang don’t you look good.

If you don’t like blazers, you can substitute a cardigan for an extra .99 cents (paid to “TheSpiff.com”).

This outfit also works if you are superwoman and need to change quickly in a tight space. Or if you’re just someone who went to Dollywood after church and didn’t want to pack a complete change of clothes. Swap out the heels for tennis shoes, remove the blazer and the necklace and boom. You are ready for running anywhere my friend.

I’m going to stock up on variations of all these things, so I’ve got cute outfits to throw on all autumn long.

The Scandal Collection

The Limited has teamed up with the TV show Scandal to produce a line of clothes based on Kerry Washington’s character.

Umm… Why haven’t we done this before?!

Getting to shop looks from a character who has great style is, in a word, magnificent. I so wish someone would do that with Gina Torres’ character on Suits! But in order for other shows to get the hint, we need to buy up clothes from this one.

So I’ve pulled three items from the line that will flow beautifully into your everyday life, even if it doesn’t involve running a crisis management firm and apparently juggling many high-powered crises of your own…

This elbow sleeve sweater in pink is so feminine yet so sexy. Good thing too, because that’s what they were going for with this entire collection (I just thought I’d wow you there with my description). You could wear this so many ways – pair it with boyfriend jeans, leopard heels and some diamond encrusted earrings for a fabulous breakfast out with friends, or wear it with tapered black pants, flats and a low bun for looking chic while running errands.

pink sweater

Whether you report to an office or not, this gorgeous drape neck shell is begging to be part of your wardrobe. Why? Because it wants to get in there and fix that blazer crisis that happens when you have a fabulous blazer but nothing to wear underneath it.

drape front blouse

From what I hear, this draped front open cardigan would be something Kerry Washington’s character would wear when lounging and drinking wine. I typically don’t lounge around in something so chic (ok well sometimes I do). But I would wrap up in this soft son of a bean for all kinds of events…shopping, meetings, Tuesdays.

waterfall sweater

Like I said, the whole collection’s about looking smart and sexy. I’m not going to go all women’s lib on you, but that is a great combination of adjectives. So even if you don’t think you’re going to have any important meetings with the President next week (check your calendar just to be sure), you should definitely these pieces to your fall wardrobe. Good thing they’re all available at The Limited in West Town Mall. *sly grin.

What to Wear to Work in the Fall

what to wear to work

So you may not be able to match my level of excitement about the fall season, but let me get you to at least admit that having a seasonal shift is a nice closet refresher.

While tank tops and flip flops are great, just think back to how good it feels when you slip into a comfortable pair of boots and a big cozy sweater. Mmmm yeah. Welcome to the dark side.

Let’s talk about building an easy fall work week wardrobe.

What I have pictured is a great base for getting you through a full five day work week (all of which can be found at West Town Mall). Each top can be worn alone or layered, giving you a great variety of looks. And because there’s a great mix of pattern and texture, they’ll keep you looking modern and seasonally appropriate.

Notice I have a pair of ankle length pants (these are “So Slimming” pants by Chico’s). They are so perfect for fall weather…I’ve already explained why here. I added a pair of wide leg pants because they’re growing in popularity. I’ll give them a little more air time on my body, but my main squeeze is still my skinnies (pun so ridiculously intended…”squeeze” get it?) These wide leg trousers are from The Limited, who have the perfect selection of classic/trendy/well-made work pants this side of the Mississippi.

The striped shirt (far left) is from Tommy Hilfiger and I don’t know about you, but looking at it makes me want to run down to a college campus and stand under a color-changing tree while drinking a pumpkin spice latte. It really couldn’t be more fall appropriate if it were made out of pumpkins. It would also look just as fall-ish under that chic GAP blazer too!

That checkered black and white plaid (or gingham) print shirt from American Eagle Outfitters is a great layering piece. Get ready because you’re about to see this pattern explode all ova-tha-place…even into spring. For now, wear it alone or peaking out from under that gray sweater. Oo then add the blazer on top of the whole thing. Boom. (Grab about 40 other sweaters like this gray V-neck from GAP. Get one in every color, trust me. They’ll go far).

And let’s all take a vow to stray away from boring black flats. The taupe and leopard flats pictured from Rack Room Shoes will add such pizzazz to your looks! Think about how cute those leopard flats will look with either the striped or the checkered shirts!

Yum. Getting dressed for a fall work week is so delicious. Have fun with it!
