Styling a Swingy Necklace

I love a good craving. I can go through long bouts of indecisiveness, so when a craving pops up I’m all about it. Lately I’ve had a craving for long swingy necklaces. I love how they make you feel sexy and carefree. Like you just threw it on (because you did) and yet it looks so polished.

Lately I’ve had a craving for long swingy necklaces. I love how they make you feel sexy and carefree. Like you just threw it on (because you did) and yet it looks so polished.

This necklace was the basis for this whole outfit and I’ll tell you how it came about…

I didn’t want to wear it with just a simple sweater because it still needed some sort of background beyond just one color. That’s when I decided to go shopping and I found this number. The wide army green and black stripes are the perfect backdrop for the gold, and the sheerness of the blouse meant it would work well into spring (something I start to think about this time of year).

The fact that it was only $12 at JCP was a win. I immediately knew I could always throw a scarf on over it or wear it with my leather jacket…two more ways to get use out of it and therefore solidifying my decision.

These skinny black trousers from Old Navy were a perfect fit especially when I paired them with my colored leopard heels (I love me a good pattern mix).

For the rest of my jewelry, I liked doing a black watch and then a pile of bracelets because it meant nothing got more attention than the necklace. A bold bracelet would have taken some of the spotlight.

Note: I hope you enjoyed today’s post! It was a throwback to a post I wrote last January. I’ve got big things a-brewin’ that’s taking up a lot of my time (more on that later). So I’m scaling back the blog (for just a little bit) to 3 day a week posts. This will help me refine my material and be better at bringing you the absolute spiffiest fashion and beauty finds out there! Thanks for continuing to read and have a wonderful day! :)

Can we all agree that Old Navy is killing it with the graphic tee’s lately?

I’ve seen no shortage of “Holy Chic” and “Lovely” on Instagram (unfortunately I didn’t grab the one with “Fabulous” down the middle right when I saw it – I went back to get it and they were gone *sad face).

This one I got before those other gems hit the shelves. It was on sale for $4.

I’m very picky with the wording of shirts. You are, after all, a walking billboard, so carefully choosing what you advertise is a wise thing to do. Which is why “fabulous” was going to make the cut – because, well, I am *wink.

But seriously, graphic tees are such a fun way to add diversity to your layers. Because it is like wearing a pattern. And this isn’t a animal print or stripe, so I’m doing good in my goal to buy outside that box! Yay me.

The cardigan I’m wearing is from Forever21 and cost $8. Total so far? $12. The chain necklace I also bought at Forever21 (a year or so ago), it was probably around, lets say $9. The shoes are from Target online – $11. So if you don’t count the jeans, this look only cost me around 32 bucks. Proving you can be Oo La La on a budget!

If you ever see cardigans on sale like that, stock up! They are such a great layering piece for fall!

This is going to be my next graphic tee purchase.

Clothes You Can Run Errands In

It turns out I’m not the only one who likes to run errands in workout clothes.

Apparently it’s becoming quite the phenomenon. So much so that it’s been given a name – “athleisure.” You could refer it as “lesisletic” if you’d like. I won’t stop you.

There are talks of several designers coming out with lines dedicated fully to this balance of comfort and function, but until that happens (and while we all build up our bank accounts) let’s talk about how you can accomplish the look with what’s in a store (or closet) nearest you.

athleisure

The key to pulling off this look is to walk the line between “couch potato” and “Crossfit.” If you sway too far in either direction (i.e.: tennis skirt, pajama pants) you’re doing it wrong.
First off, you have to make sure you’ve got nice tennis shoes. Do not do flip flops, do not do Converse or Toms. Only clean tennis shoes will do.

Next up: pants. Old Navy has a great selection of workout pants that are both comfortable and flattering. Look on the tag to make sure the kind you’re getting are “compression pants.” Compression pants are great in that they smooth out your legs and keep you from jiggling (that’s the best way I can think of to explain it). Even if you’re not comfortable with wearing form fitting work out pants, buy them to wear in lieu of tights and just make sure whenever you wear them, you’ve got on a top that covers your butt. This orange tunic, for example, would look great with runner pants and tennis shoes. It’s from athleta.com.

Another combination that would work, are these relaxed fit terry pants from Old Navy. Pair them with an active bubble tank (like the purple one pictured also from Old Navy) and a hoodie (I found this gray one on Stein Mart.com).

I really feel that this is a look anyone can pull off.

Christmas Eve Goodies

It’s Christmas Eve!

Time to start letting go of the to-do list and just let the holiday fun wash over you.

It’s been such a fun Christmas season, and an awesome year overall! I’ve really enjoyed getting to bring you gift ideas throughout this month. Here are the details to what I talked about on the show this morning.

These are great last minute gifts, or good things to keep in mind when you’re roaming the stores with your gift cards…

1. Old Navy
Had you shown me this jewelry but not told me where it’s from, I never would have guessed Old Navy. They’ve really done an amazing job with their new jewelry section and it’s totally worth checking out! Prices range from $6-$12 and you can’t get it online, so get yourself into that store!

2. Aerie
I happened into this place in the mall one day and was really surprised to see all the great lounge clothes they have. Apparently they’re not just an underwear store for tweens anymore (if they were ever). Stop on by and pick up some cute leggings or a cozy sweater!

3. Clinique
I’m going back to my roots and getting re-acquainted with this brand. Their mascara, foundation and face scrub are some of my favorite products right now. I can’t help but love the fact that their products are made with good-for-you ingredients and that everything’s priced affordably. I’ll keep going back for more!

4. Crabtree & Evelyn
I’m still in the honeymoon stage of my relationship with Crabtree & Evelyn and I don’t see it ending any time soon. Their nail polish remover wipes are truly a delight to use, their nail polish has gotten me to cheat on OPI, and their cuticle pen is a purse must-have. Let’s not forget their hand sanitizer. Its fresh scent and moisturizing feel will have you looking for dirty places you can stick your hands into, just so you can use it (ok maaayybeee not, but still it’s great).

5. Lotions by Camille Beckman
I predict this girls line of lotions is about to hit it big. Real big. I don’t see how this gem of a product has stayed quiet because truly it’s one of the most luxurious things I’ve ever slathered on my hands (trust me, I slather on all kinds of luxuriousness). Get on her website and order some Glycerine Hand Therapy to experience the amazingness for yourself. At least get on there and see if it’s sold in a store near you.

I hope this blog (and the numerous other I’ve posted) has helped your gift giving this year!

Enjoy the evening and a very {heartfelt} Merry Christmas to you!
