Wrap Up in Scarves

scarves for fall

Some days, my hair and I just need some time off from each other. Like we’ve gotten in an argument and need to go to separate rooms to cool off.

Yesterday, for example, I would have loved to wrap up my whole head in one of these scarves and go hair-free the whole day. Thankfully as I drove home last night with tired eyes, I was able to pin back my bangs with one of the bobby pins I keep in my purse.

No matter how you wear (or dream about wearing) your scarves, here are four from West Town Mall that will add style and pizzazz to your collection this fall…

Let’s go clockwise, starting with the frayed black and white plaid scarf from Forever21. I’m really coming around to this whole plaid thing. Mainly because it’s another pattern that will allow me to pattern mix! Wear this over a striped shirt, or have it peaking out from a brightly colored coat.

The gray scarf from American Eagle has a really neat crochet-like flower pattern in the middle. Subtle yet sweet. The fringe on the bottom is so different with that extra bit of tassel knitting mastery.

My favorite thing about this “Rose Plaid Quad Scarf” from Express are the colors. The use of purples and pinks is quite the unexpected yet bold mix that would play perfectly with black and white, all black, or a gray ensemble.

Lastly, this Metallic Heart Scarf from Francesca’s is such an airy gorgeous piece. I’m not a huge fan of hearts, but I might be able to make an exception for these tiny gold ones that add just enough glint to a feather-light material.

Speaking of material, notice how each of these scarves vary in fabric? That’s what your collection should look like. Because each fabric/fringe lays on you differently, and not every outfit calls for a bulky scarf. Sometimes you need a lighter fabric with little fringe, and sometimes you need a heavier fabric with lots of fringe. So the answer to your question is, yes. You DO need to go buy more scarves, tell your husband I said so!

One of my Favorite Things

Christmas is in full swing!

The kids are jingle belling and everyone’s telling you be of good cheer…or would you believe they’re at least telling you to have a good day? How about saying excuse me when they bump past you?

Over the weekend I got together with friends and did a gift exchange. One of the presents I received was a scarf. I love getting/giving scarves because I think they’re one of the most perfect presents.
They’re perfect to give because you don’t have to know someone’s size or even their exact taste. Even if you go for one that may be a little wild, it could always break them out of their comfort zone and get them to try new things.

In recent years scarves have been upgraded to accessory status, but remember that time we wore them for warmth? ;) Even if the receiver doesn’t wear scarves as a fashion statement, she could still use it to keep warm!
Forever21 is a great place to get deals, and TJ Maxx also has good ones for cheaper prices.

But wait! There’s more!

Looking for something a little more classic? Tommy’s got you covered. I went over and looked at there scarves and was pleased with both their selection and price.

Fall Favorites

Walking around the mall in search of some writing inspiration yesterday afternoon, I was struck with the thought that cooler weather brings out so many more clothing subjects than summer does.

In the summer it’s mostly all about skin care products because our skin is what we’re showing more of. But in the fall, it’s all about a collaboration of clothes and how we get to pile them on.
This week I talked about two things that are quintessential pieces to fall: boots and scarves.
Here I detailed great boot finds throughout the mall, at a price/height range from low to high. Boots are such comfortable/cozy shoes to wear, and if you need reasons to buy them just click on that link and let my giddyness wash over you.
Scarves have made it big this year all throughout the summer months. Now it’s time to wear them for real and there are so many great ways to do so. Check out three new ways (and one that is office appropriate) here on this weeks segment.

Happy October Everybody! Hope you’re weekend is filled with mornings like this…

How to Pattern Mix With Scarves

This has been a good year for scarves.

They were big all through the warmer months, and now that it’s their prime time they’re still showing up strong in all of the stores. And why not!? They’re comfortable, cute, warm and a great way to add a splash of color/pattern to any outfit.

Here are three examples of how I used them to pattern mix…

Stripes & Multi-Colored Stripes
When the weather finally wakes up and realizes it’s October, I’ll put the light scarves away, but until then thin ones like this are the perfect pattern echo and splash of color.

Stripes & Polka Dots
This is a fun way to mix patterns. Do it with both being black and white, or like this combo pairing purple with tan. It works best when one color is echoed in both patterns like the black dots ans stripes. Bust out of your comfort zone and give this pattern mash up a try.

Red & Leather
This isn’t a “pattern mix” per-say, but it is a good idea to add a dark red scarf like this to an all black outfit. And the leather jacket adds just the right kind of varied texture to the whole thing so that you don’t look like you’re going to rob a bank.
