A Very Good Friday

blog-skirt-2

Happy Easter weekend to you!

I’m so thankful to have a reason to celebrate this weekend that goes beyond the superficial dresses, eggs and bunny. While all of that is fun, I wouldn’t want to live for one second without the peace and hope of knowing that Jesus loves me so much He died on the cross for me. He would have gone through all of that pain even if it were just for me! That’s a sobering thought that makes me love Him even more.

I get to live in complete freedom because I know that He died so that I might have and enjoy life – to the fullest! He wants us to cast our burdens on Him and live life fully trusting Him and the wonderful plan He has for us.

I found myself allowing worry and anxiety in my brain recently, so I turned to the bible and came across this scripture in Ephesians…

I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. -Ephesians 3:16-17

From beginning to end that verse is so encouraging. Our God has glorious, unlimited resources and He wants to empower us! Not with a fleeting power that feels good on the outside, but with something that bubbles up from the inside and is made possible only through His Spirit.

All of this because He wants our roots – the very foundation of our being, where we draw all of life – to grow down deeper into His love. Man, oh man, I want that. Just think of how grounded and stable you would be (regardless of any situation) by having your roots down deep into His love.

That’s what He wants from us. Why we try to take things on ourselves, or figure out the best way possible for US to make things happen is silly. I do it all the time. Why?! :)

I want to live this verse out and rely fully on His glorious, unlimited resources.

Love Him back with your life because He fist loved you with His.

Happy Easter!

Two Unexpected Ways to Use Coconut Oil

The coconut is having a good year.

In the store the other day I noticed there’s no shortage of coconut-related products. All of our basic essentials – sugar, water, oil, milk – have been taken over by this tasty and wildly healthy fruit…? Fruit right? No, I just looked it up, it’s part of it’s OWN species. Ooo fancy.

Which further proves my point…this thing is becoming a bit of a diva.

But we’ll take an edible/slather-able diva that will help us feel and look better any day, right?

Let me share with you two new ways the coconut can be introduced into your beauty routine.

Coconut Oil Nails

We knew this stuff was a great moisturizer, but who knew it could do this!?

I found this online and didn’t believe it until I tried it myself. Take your favorite blush and mix about 1/2 a teaspoon of it with a full teaspoon of coconut oil (per nail, by the way so it works out to 5 teaspoons of blush, 10 teaspoons of coconut oil). Then slather on a thick coating of the mixture on each nail, making sure to mold it into the shape of your nail. Then hold your hand under a hair dryer for a full two minutes. Once it’s dry it looks like you got a professional manicure!

Something else that’s quite unexpected is creating an eyeshadow by using it and another simple household ingredient…baking soda!

By mixing equal parts of the two together vigorously (I used a small spatula for about a minute), they combined to create this perfect color that has the consistency of a creamy eyeshadow. And because it’s made up of coconut oil it moisturizes your eyes as you wear it throughout the day. The downside is it does crease by the end of the day, even if you’ve applied a primer. However, the benefits to your skin and the color that it leaves behind, far outweigh the down side of looking wilted and droopy by 5pm.

So…when are you going to try these awesome beauty hacks?

I hope it’s today because it’s a great April Fools joke!

#gotcha :-P

*The nail color I’m actually wearing in the picture is OPI, “Lucky Lucky Lavender.”

Baby Update

When it comes to sharing personal information, I always err deeply on the side of not. In fact if it weren’t perfect for promoting my business and keeping up with out of town friends and family, I could live happily without ever seeing the inside of Facebook.

But that’s not the world we live in. And while I’ll still keep some things guarded, I do want to share an update about our little slice of cutie pie.

I am now half way through the pregnancy. Whoo hoo! I say that not because I’ve been feeling bad or anything, but because it means we’re closer to meeting this kid!! And for that I can hardly wait :)

I have started feeling him move now, which is the most fascinating/amazing/indescribable feeling in the whole wide world. I never understood why women would feel sorry for men not getting to experience pregnancy, but now I kind of do. Having a human wiggle around in there is…well it’s amazing.

As you can see I’ve grown a little baby bump!

5 months jpg

Twice now I thought I had successfully dressed around it to where it wasn’t obvious (since this is the stage where people might wonder if you’re pregnant or just not doing enough situps), but both times people I know pointed out the fact that they could see my belly. Haha, oh well.

I do think I may have maxed out my favorite jeans. I can stand very comfortably in any of my current pants, but sitting…that requires strategic movement, grunting, and maneuvering to get comfortable. And even then it ends up being a question of – how discreetly can I un-button these things? A maternity pants shopping trip is quickly approaching.

Cravings are pretty much limited to Chick-Fil-A lemonade. I’m serious when I say, I could take a tall glass of that any time in the day or night. But I loved that stuff before, so it seems as if my taste in food is just amplified. I’ve got to stop writing about that lemonade because now I’m plotting on how I could go get some…

My current goal with this pregnancy is to just enjoy every stage of it. I’m trying to do my best to not spend my time wishing for any other time but now. I feel that if I start practicing that now, once he gets here I’ll be able to continue to relax and enjoy every stage.

Hey, remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. Watching this guy get knit together in my womb reminds me of that verse every time.

The Guide to a Figure-Flattering Easter Dress

The trick to writing a guide of any sort is research. And if there’s ever been an Easter where I’ve done extensive dress research, it’s this one.

I will be 5 months pregnant by the time Easter gets here, which means I don’t know what my body will look like. On top of which, I’m in the Easter program at church, which means I have to find a dress that meets a long list of standards (not to mention my own crazy self-imposed ones).

But man do I love a good clothing challenge.

I started looking for a dress in January, just to start formulating a vision. Once I knew the direction I wanted to go in, I started seriously looking in February and had my dress by early March.

Saying all of that to say, I know my stuff. I know what’s out there and I know what will look good on your body type.

So let’s dive in…

easter dress, west town mall, the limited, express, fiore boutique, cache, white hosue black market, how to buy a dress, what dress to buy for your shape, figure flattering dresses, easter dress shopping, easter, what to wear this easter

The best way to flatter a larger mid-section is by going with a dress that’s waist defining. All three of these options give the illusion that you have a tiny waist whether it be through color blocking, a change in pattern or strategic rouching. Those are the types of things you need to look for in your dress.

And if you want to add a cardigan to the mix, stay away from those that are short and boxy. Go with one that lays a few inches below where you’ve defined your waist, or better yet, choose a structured blazer to give you even more shape.

For a larger bum and hips it’s all about where you’re drawing the eye. First of all, make sure to go with an A-line shape. This shape is flattering on so many body types, but especially yours as it perfectly conceals your lower half. To carry the illusion a step further, opt for a dress that has a pattern/detail on the top half which will instantly draw the eye up.

The White House Black Market dress does a great job of drawing the eye to your neckline with that lace detail; as does the JCP dress by putting that gorgeous blue color on the top half of the dress. And of course the print overlay is just pretty all over on the Fiore dress.

If you’re looking to create a figure, you’ve got some great options as well. Look for dresses with ruffles or pleats to add volume where you need it, but stay away from anything too baggy. You want to show off your slimness while adding volume in all the right places.

The blue dress from Express gives your girls a little help with the pleats in the bust line. The middle dress from The Limited does kind of the same thing but in a cool modern way – I love the illusion of a crop top over a black dress. And by the way, this one would really do a great job showing off a gorgeous statement necklace. Finally, the navy Ann Taylor number defines your tiny waist but gives you a curvy hourglass shape with the addition of those ruffles (the dress has a tiny polka dot pattern too, which I think is so classic).

I wanted to show you that no matter your figure, there is a dress out there that will make you look your best. I purposely stayed away from using words like “flaws” and “problem areas” because you don’t have to look at your body that way. Appreciate what you’re working with, and learn to dress so that you show off what you love most!

If you have any questions or need more help, you can reach me through any of my social media outlets I’ve linked to there in the upper right.

Happy shopping!

Let’s Refresh Together

‘Ello!

I am Elizabeth Ogle, beauty and fashion blogger as well as Style Consultant for West Town Mall (if you know that already give an exasperated sigh while throwing your hands in the air).

This year so far has been a swirl of fun activities so now that I’m back to blogging regularly, I thought a great way to really start 2015 would be to reintroduce myself and my hidden agendas. I had a meeting about that with the other person I work with (my dog) and he agreed bones are delicious….which I took to mean, “Reintroducing yourself is the most professional thing to do at this juncture.”

I am so passionate about clothes and confidence and beauty products that four years ago I decided to pour all of that into a blog. Oh and I love to write, so consider that the homemade whip cream on top of it all. Yum.

In 2012 I was given the opportunity to be a guest on WBIR’s morning show over on FOX. Turns out I love being on TV and they loved having me, so for the past 2 1/2 years I’ve been a regular guest (my latest segment you can watch above). In 2013 I applied for “Style Setter” with Simon malls. A job that I got which meant I got to write about things from my local mall (West Town Mall – to be exact). Once that gig ended nationally in 2014, the people running West Town said they were having so much fun with me and I with them that they gave me a new title, “Style Consultant.”

That means I get to write some more and have mall merchandise at my disposal to talk about on TV!

I tell you all of that not to toot my own horn (ha, toot), but to instead show that I’m a professional blogger (ok maybe a small toot) (ha) and most importantly to testify to the fact that when you obey God and walk in the destiny He has planned for you, great things happen!!

God has put in me a strong desire to help women feel good about themselves and to dress in a way that presents them beautifully to the world. So if you want all of that, come back my and read some more! If you don’t want any of that, read other blogs ;) kidding. I do think it’s important to make it a habit of reading a blog(s). Not only because they’re FREE to read, but also because they help you stay fresh and in-the-know on what’s happening in the style/beauty world, from real/unbiased people.

So if you like what you’ve read so far, I hope you come back tomorrow and the next day and the day after that x infinity. :)
