Goals and a Style Plan Made Interesting, I Promise

So I’m going to ask a potentially uncomfortable question…where are you at with your goals for the year?

I’ll share an update with my goals so it may make you feel better… Back in January I talked about doing a style refresh, which included some of my goals for the year.

For example, the one goal of mine was to make social media time productive. While I have done that in some ways (planned Jackson’s nursery…ok I’ve done it in one way), I haven’t really limited my mindless scrolling time. I don’t know why our brains suddenly depend on a social media break, when just 6 years ago they barely knew what it meant. Regardless, I can be better at stopping myself from grabbing my phone every 30 minutes to see information that does me absolutely no good.

The goal I have done well with, is being careful how I shop. The goal of not buying something just because it was on sale has really prevented me from buying things I’m really not going to wear. I don’t want to fill my closet up with junk pieces.

gap, maternity clothes, maternity, maternity style, the limited, banana republic, gwen steffani, statement necklace, blazer, white blazer

A new goal I’ve added to the list, is coming up with a maternity style plan. Funny thing about me…10 years ago I was not a planner. At. All. Then I met my husband. He plans his path through Wal-Mart. So in the 6 1/2 years we’ve been married, a lot of that planning has rubbed off on me. It’s mostly shown up in planning what I wear.

After showing up late to a lot of functions because I was frustrated with finding something to wear, I realized planning an outfit in advance would really help me feel better and look better (which is always the goal). I now religiously plan what I’m wearing. Saturday, my husband and I are going to run errands, I already know what I’m wearing. It’s not uncommon for my Sunday morning outfits to be planned out weeks in advance.

That’s why I came up with a maternity plan, because what I REALLY want to avoid is frustration over that baby bump.

Above is my idea board.

I’m going to shop for deals, but I do plan to replace each pair of jeans I currently wear with their maternity version. That way I won’t miss a beat with my pants.

Maxi dresses are going to really come in handy because I’ll be able to wear those before and after (plus I can wear them 100 different ways). And blazers, well I’ll be stocking up on these for the rest of my life pregnant or not.

And statement necklaces are something I’m really going to load up on so that I can get away with repeating the same basics but still add my own flare.

You should try this. Start formulating a plan for what you want to wear this spring/summer. It will really focus your shopping time and help you put outfits together with greater ease.

Let’s Refresh Together

‘Ello!

I am Elizabeth Ogle, beauty and fashion blogger as well as Style Consultant for West Town Mall (if you know that already give an exasperated sigh while throwing your hands in the air).

This year so far has been a swirl of fun activities so now that I’m back to blogging regularly, I thought a great way to really start 2015 would be to reintroduce myself and my hidden agendas. I had a meeting about that with the other person I work with (my dog) and he agreed bones are delicious….which I took to mean, “Reintroducing yourself is the most professional thing to do at this juncture.”

I am so passionate about clothes and confidence and beauty products that four years ago I decided to pour all of that into a blog. Oh and I love to write, so consider that the homemade whip cream on top of it all. Yum.

In 2012 I was given the opportunity to be a guest on WBIR’s morning show over on FOX. Turns out I love being on TV and they loved having me, so for the past 2 1/2 years I’ve been a regular guest (my latest segment you can watch above). In 2013 I applied for “Style Setter” with Simon malls. A job that I got which meant I got to write about things from my local mall (West Town Mall – to be exact). Once that gig ended nationally in 2014, the people running West Town said they were having so much fun with me and I with them that they gave me a new title, “Style Consultant.”

That means I get to write some more and have mall merchandise at my disposal to talk about on TV!

I tell you all of that not to toot my own horn (ha, toot), but to instead show that I’m a professional blogger (ok maybe a small toot) (ha) and most importantly to testify to the fact that when you obey God and walk in the destiny He has planned for you, great things happen!!

God has put in me a strong desire to help women feel good about themselves and to dress in a way that presents them beautifully to the world. So if you want all of that, come back my and read some more! If you don’t want any of that, read other blogs ;) kidding. I do think it’s important to make it a habit of reading a blog(s). Not only because they’re FREE to read, but also because they help you stay fresh and in-the-know on what’s happening in the style/beauty world, from real/unbiased people.

So if you like what you’ve read so far, I hope you come back tomorrow and the next day and the day after that x infinity. :)

This Blog Post Will Inspire You

nail polishes, nail polish holder, goals, how to set goals, what goals to set

That’s a lofty goal I set for myself in the title. But I had to do something as my unction to get back in my routine has been severely lacking this January. Am I alone in that?

Usually I’m all jazzed about getting back into things, but this year it seems that I need to plug my “jazzed” into an outlet.

I thought it would help get me excited and charged up about the year if I took a look at how I did with my goals from 2014 (you can read the original post here if you’d like)…

1. Learn new eyeshadow techniques. (Check!)

This past year not only did I switch up my routine looks, but I integrated new colors and paired my everyday look waaaaay down (that’s another post for another time).

2. Purge my house of crap things I’m not using. (Check! ..ish)

I did a good job of cleaning certain areas out, but holy frappuccino, there are so many more areas in our house that need to be cleaned out. This month so far I have cleared out all my unnecessary nail polishes and whittled down my 124 bottle collection to just what I’m going to use (that shelf you see pictured was built by my husband! Awww). Next up is my closet…and by “my closet” I really mean every closet in our house.

3. Rock a tutu. For real. (Well, I got close)

If you follow me on Instagram you got to see the five minutes I rocked a tutu. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. I ordered one online for a specific event, it just didn’t get here in time. After trying it on though, I was glad it didn’t. The sparkly pants I went with were a much better option. Maybe I’ll try again with a white one in the spring.

What goals did you accomplish this past year!?

I’ll have more on goal setting for 2015 next week. In fact I plan on talking about how to better your image in the coming year! I hope you have a great weekend, and I’m glad to be back to a regular posting schedule! :)

What Clothing Can do for You

You’ve heard me talk a lot about workout wear here recently, but there’s a reason for it.

I know it can be easy this time of year to wane in your resolve to work out or to hit up the cheesy potatoes instead if the salad bar. That’s why I want to help reinforce your decision to get your body in shape with some inspirational clothing.
What you have to wear affects you tremendously – especially when it comes to working out. There was a time when I was pulling from my very limited t-shirt collection and rotating between two terrible pairs of pants that weren’t meant for workouts (one even had a whole in it…oh WHAT was I thinking!?)
That kind of clothing didn’t keep me in the gym for very long. It wasn’t until I got some proper attire that I began to be inspired and reach my goals. And we all know, that’s one of the greatest feelings in the world!
So start over with your goals if you have to. But set some, get great clothing to reach them in and make this year the best one your body’s ever had!

Easy Goals to Spiff You up in 2014

As a joke I will sometimes refer to myself as “Past Elizabeth” or “Future Elizabeth.”

It’s often in the context of what she will love. For example, “Future Elizabeth will love the fact that I’m labeling these boxes so she doesn’t have to go through them.”

And you know, I’m always right about what Future Elizabeth will love.

What about Future You? What will she love you for this year?

I have three goals for Future Elizabeth. Two of which are sensible, and one is just plain fun…

1. Learn new eye shadow techniques.

For Christmas I received Sephora’s Makeup Academy Palette. This comes with more eye shadow than Nicky Minaj would know what to do with. But I plan on adding new techniques to my repertoire so that I can use each color wisely.  Then I want to share those techniques with all of you! (Video blogging is also on my list for Future Elizabeth-FYI).

2. Purge my house of crap I’m not using.

Yes, I understand that is a lofty goal. But here’s how I plan to do it…
First I’m going to make a list of all the nooks and crannies that need cleaning. Then I’m going to organize that list from small to large. One drawer, for example, won’t take as long to clean out as say a whole closet. Then I will bite off pieces of that list as I have time. In one hour I can easily clean out said drawer. If I have most of the day free then I’ll shoot for the laundry room. The more I get done, the more I’ll want to keep whittling down the list, the more happy Future Elizabeth will be.

You can apply that same principle to your closet! Or your bathroom!

3. Rock a tutu. For real.

I realize the absurdity of this goal, but that’s kind of what makes it fun. I’ve always wanted to wear one. When I was little I loved wearing skirts that twirled, and I never exactly grew out of it. And I’ve always wanted to wear a tutu. The fun part will be styling it so that it doesn’t look costume-y (or weird) and picking just the right event to wear it to (*sly grin). Thankfully, places like Forever21 are going to make it easy…

Close Enough ;)

I say every year how it’s good to have goals for your looks. What are yours going to be this year? What will future you be so thankful that you did?

Come back tomorrow as I share how to tackle cleaning out your jewelry box. And watch me live on FOX for how to clean out your makeup bag! We’re going to kick off 2014 fresh and clean!
