Our New Digs

I’ll never forget the feeling of sheer panic that washed over me the first night my husband and I fell asleep in our apartment.

If the scene were to be played out on TV, the camera would show my face, lying there wide-eyed as the weight of full adulthood became more prominent than the comforter I was covered with. Next to me would appear to be my peacefully sleeping new husband, but as the camera pans to show his face – we see the same exact expression of panic.

We laugh about it now, how that first night was silently scary for both of us. Then we shake our heads and chuckle at how much growing up we did in 34-O.

This past week we left that chapter in our lives and moved into our first house.

The first night in our house wasn’t nearly as scary. Due mostly to the fact that we were both too tired to be anything but tired.

I thought I would be super sad to leave the apartment because of all the memories we built there, but Dayton reminded me that you take the memories with you and make new ones wherever you go. It’s not the house, it’s the people in it (someone please tell that to Miranda Lambert and get her to quit singing that song “The House that Built Me” IT MAKES ME CRY).

Sure it sounds like we had a cheesy Full House-esque moment, but it’s true. You build new memories wherever you go.

Then you box them up, wonder why you’ve saved so much crap and end up throwing half of it away at your next destination. If that sounds like I’m tired of unpacking, well then I nailed it.

It will take time to settle in, but the change is exciting. And the fact that I find the change exciting is exciting.

Just wanted to give you a sneak peek into what was happening with me this week. Now look around your perfectly unpacked house and be thankful for it ;)

7 Minutes of Inspiration

how to get organized, closet clean out, jewelry clean, makup drawer clean, knoxville fashion blog, knoxville beauty blogger

It’s a cold icy day outside my window. And since there’s barely enough snow on the ground to even see, now is a great time to hunker down inside and clean something out.

Before you go moaning and groaning, step one is just to continue sitting there and reading. No need to shoo the dog off your lap just yet (but tell him he’s only got 7 more minutes to relax).

Below I’ve pulled together all the posts I’ve written most recently about cleaning things out.

Really the key is to make it fun! I like to put on an old Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart movie (stuff my husband refuses to watch) or play my favorite music so I can sing really loud while I’m cleaning. That’s the stuff that makes you look forward to doing it and afterwards you are SO very glad you did.

Days like today when you’re trapped inside are the perfect time to get yourself clean and organized. And hey, you don’t have to do it all – just clean out one area! (I can’t guarantee that you’ll stop at just one, though).

Enjoy!

This Blog Post Will Inspire You

nail polishes, nail polish holder, goals, how to set goals, what goals to set

That’s a lofty goal I set for myself in the title. But I had to do something as my unction to get back in my routine has been severely lacking this January. Am I alone in that?

Usually I’m all jazzed about getting back into things, but this year it seems that I need to plug my “jazzed” into an outlet.

I thought it would help get me excited and charged up about the year if I took a look at how I did with my goals from 2014 (you can read the original post here if you’d like)…

1. Learn new eyeshadow techniques. (Check!)

This past year not only did I switch up my routine looks, but I integrated new colors and paired my everyday look waaaaay down (that’s another post for another time).

2. Purge my house of crap things I’m not using. (Check! ..ish)

I did a good job of cleaning certain areas out, but holy frappuccino, there are so many more areas in our house that need to be cleaned out. This month so far I have cleared out all my unnecessary nail polishes and whittled down my 124 bottle collection to just what I’m going to use (that shelf you see pictured was built by my husband! Awww). Next up is my closet…and by “my closet” I really mean every closet in our house.

3. Rock a tutu. For real. (Well, I got close)

If you follow me on Instagram you got to see the five minutes I rocked a tutu. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. I ordered one online for a specific event, it just didn’t get here in time. After trying it on though, I was glad it didn’t. The sparkly pants I went with were a much better option. Maybe I’ll try again with a white one in the spring.

What goals did you accomplish this past year!?

I’ll have more on goal setting for 2015 next week. In fact I plan on talking about how to better your image in the coming year! I hope you have a great weekend, and I’m glad to be back to a regular posting schedule! :)
