Three Spiffy Things

Sunday morning as I was standing in the bathroom doing my hair, I peaked out down the hallway to see what Jackson was doing. The minute he saw me, he got the biggest grin on his face (so much so that his pacifier popped out of his mouth).

That is the best thing ever.

It’s the little things that make the most impact in your memory.

As I sat down to write about the three things that made me feel spiffy this week, that popped into my head. Here are the other things that closely followed…

Flowers

For work a couple years ago I got to write the bio for every employee in the company. This meant I got to gather fun info from people which also meant that I read “loves to travel” about 1800 times. One fact I still remember was how one lady buys herself fresh flowers every week. I think that is such a good idea.

To start putting that into practice, I bought flowers for myself at Aldi a couple weeks ago. These are not those flowers.

No, these beauties were delivered to me at work from my thoughtful husband and his 9-month-old accomplice for Mother’s Day!

They have brought me so much happiness every time I look at them, so I’m going to do my best to keep something like this going to lift the mood and help keep the dining room table clear :) Who wants to put the mail under something this magnificent!?

Hairspray

You know what has sold me on TRESemme products? Project Runway. They always have to whisk their models off to the “TRESemme hairproducts room” or whatever Tim says, and it turns out that wad of cash TRESemme dropped in order for him to say that has turned into sales.

I’m sure they’re rapidly making up for the cost of that placement with my $5 hairspray purchase. YOU’RE WELCOME, TRESEMME.

It’s called “Perfectly (un) Done” and it gives you natural movement with all day hold (which, ironically, is also something you’d want from Spanx).

Even though Dove is my go-to hairspray product, I like this because it’s a fine mist spray. You can just hold the button and spsssssssssssssssssssssss *pauses for air* spssssssssssss

Lip Liner

I bought this lip liner to directly match a lipstick I got in one of my beauty boxes and it’s been the best purchase.

I try to go more fuschia with my bold lip because I think red lips make me look like I belong in a terrible teen vampire love story.

This is by Mac and the color is “Fashion Boost.” It stays on my lips all day and makes some of the brighter pink lipsticks I’ve wrongfully bought, more wearable and less clown-like. I love love love it – and highly recommend taking in your favorite lip color to find a pencil that matches.

Hey! This is my second post of Three Spiffy Things so we’re well on our way to having a series, yay!

2 Cute Things and a Game-Changing New Cleanser

18

This weekend marks our 7 year anniversary. When asked how things were going in our first year of marriage, I’d always start gushing about how much fun it was. I’d then immediately be reminded by the person that it’s only our first year. Give it time, they’d say. *Blank face emoji

And while I know 7 years in isn’t much, it’s been enough for us to experience plenty of highs and lows. Turns out, if someone were to ask me today how marriage is – I’d still be gushing.

I’ve known for a long time that small things are just so cute. I wear a size 10 shoe, so I’m looking at you size 6 shoe wearers. But the cuteness factor in little boy clothes? Oh Lord, it just won’t quit.

When I lived at home my room was really far away from the bathroom. This prompted me to change my face-washing routine to using wipes instead of going all the way downstairs and splashing water on my tired face and having it annoyingly drain down my arms.

I’ve since learned that using face wipes every night probably isn’t the best way to go. You don’t get as deep or thorough as a clean with them. So I save the luxury for once or twice a week when I know I’ll be coming off a long day.

I’m excited to report that I get to bump that schedule up a couple of nights with this new product. It’s called “micellar water” and it’s French. It’s water that has tiny oil molecules in it that attract dirt and makeup from off your face. So the oil pulls out the dirt, while the water stays behind to hydrate, giving you a deep clean without that dried-out feeling.

It’s wonderful to use in the morning too because it makes your face feel fresh and hydrated before applying makeup.

Here is the brand I use. Of course you can go way up or down in price, but after looking around I felt like this was the best option for the cost.

To use it, all you do is squirt some on a cotton pad (much better than a cotton ball, I found) and wipe your face like it’s toner. I’ll sometimes go over my face a second time just to get everything. Afterwards, you’ll have a really clean face, but really feel as if you cheated because it was so easy.

Give it a try this weekend!

A Hair Product That Works in the Real World

hair protective spray, tresemme, hair product review, drug store product review, drug store brand hair product, hair product, beauty blog, product review

A lot of television and movies require a willingness to check reality at the door. Actually, so do most reality shows.

Other things that make that list? Video hair tutorials where you’re shown how to create the “perfect wave” or an “easy up-do” using drugstore brand tools. These types of videos mesmerize me.  I’m such a sucker for them because I think that since they’re using drugstore brands, I can totally achieve the same look! Wrong.

For one thing, the hair styles are being created by professionals. It’s never the model doing her own hair in a messy bathroom, 15 minutes before she’s supposed to walk out the door. Video tape THAT.

Another thing…there always seems to be strategic edits to the video which completely glamorizes the actual time it would take to try that hair style. Oh, the video was only 4 minutes? That must be how long it takes to achieve the perfect side-swept bun! Wrong.

But they make those videos for suckers like me, who still go out and try the product any way. Which is what lead me to picking up this TRESemme Heat Protective Spray a couple weeks ago.

You should be using some kind of heat protective on your hair, even if all you do is use a hair dryer. It’s good to have an extra layer between all of that heat and your hair. This spray is nice for a number of reasons…

First, it sprays out a fine, wide mist of product. Let me get a “What What” for those of you that understand the spraying mechanism can really make or break a product. I hate it when it sprays a straight concentrated stream into one part of my hair, soaking it and then drying into one crunchy chunk. This spray completely avoids that and really allows you to cover a great amount of hair and also doesn’t soak it down.

Second, it smells fantastic. Another big pet peeve of mine is smelly hair products. It takes a lot of effort for me to wake up early, wash my hair and then dry it, I don’t want all of that hard work to come to get flushed down the drain because what I’m spraying on my hair smells like dusty funeral parlor. TRESemme heat protective spray smells clean and fresh. In fact I would consider spraying it in my hair everyday just to give it a smell-boost.

I’ve also noticed my hair is a little shinier since using this spray. And it gives me peace of mind when I go straight from the hair dryer to the curling iron.

All of which, adds up to the fact that I don’t have to check reality at my bathroom door – I actually walk away with hair I’m happy with.

The Beauty Product You Needed Yesterday

This Beauty Blender Sponge is a thrill ride. You may not have the words “thrill ride” pop in your head when you look at it, but oh what fun it is to try.

beauty blender sponge, sponge, makeup sponge, how the beauty blender sponge works, best tool for applying concealer, how to apply concealer, concealer

First, you don’t use it the way it is. You’ve got to get it damp. Once you do that, it expands almost doubling in size!

Then once you’ve patted it dry, the magic continues with the way it makes your concealer smooth out over your face, causing any blemish or spot you’re trying to cover up – disappear! It’s magical!

I’ve used it with my powder foundation as well, touching up spots towards the end of the day and it continues to help my make up melt into my face doing exactly what I want it to do. After a while it does get all dirty with your makeup stains, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!

Once it gets to that point, you can either wash it with the special wash they sell or just use a gentle face cleanser…and BOOM it’s like new again! WILL THE FUN EVER END!? …Actually you do have to buy a new one after about 3 months or so. But the good news is you only have to pay around $20 for this little bucket of awesome.

There are multiple people on my Christmas list who will be getting one of these – go buy one for yourself and join the party!
