The Best Beauty Products for Spring

I'm buying all of these this spring!
Now that winter is passed, I like to get pumped about showing more skin by looking at what products are going to help me look and feel my best.

Here are the top five I plan to buy this season (translation: be looking for their reviews in future blog posts)…

Lips:

Revlon’s Colorburst Stain Balm promises to take the best of the stain and balm worlds and fuse them together to make one long lasting yet moisturizing burst of color. I can’t wait to try it!

Legs:

Jergens BB Cream for your body with it’s skin brightening/correcting/evening capabilities sounds like just the thing I need for legs that have been in hibernation. (I first alerted you to it here)

Face:

Sephora has an airbrush foundation out that has gotten rave reviews. Apparently all you have to do is spray it on. Sounds like those days I don’t feel like putting any makeup on just got a little more glamorous.
Aveeno’s daily moisturizer is probably going to get the first draft pick over my Oil of Olay lotion. I keep reading how amazing this product is at brightening your skin so alright already! I’ll try it!

Nails:

Just when you thought they couldn’t get any more creative with nail polish, OPI has done it again! Seriously HOW do they think of these things?! I can’t wait to try their new “Sheer Tints” collection. They are super light top coats that layer on the color. Use them alone, or over your favorite polish for a whole new look! How FUN!!

Keep it fresh with these products and a daily dose of Spiff this spring and this will be your best season yet!

This Weeks Nails: A Simple Step

No matter what your taste is in nail polish, you should at least be applying a nail strengthener.

I know that a different hue every week may not be your thing, but having a little bit of sheen to your nails in the form of OPI’s nail strengthener will do you a world of good.

All you have to do is paint a quick coat over each nail. By the time you’re done with the last finger the first one should be dry. That’s how easy it is. You don’t even have to do this everyday, just once a week and it will really help your nails look/feel/be strong.

No more peeling or chipping. Just strong pretty nails that I hope to maybe one day convince you to file down and add color to…but to each his own!

You may have heard me say this before, but it truly is amazing how confident well manicured nails can make you feel. So take one small $8 step and get this strengthener. Then write me the moment you look down at your gleaming nails and think to yourself, “Elizabeth was right, it really does feel good!”

I’m talking the moment you think that, you write me and tell me.

I plan to have a full inbox ;)

The Most Flattering Shape for Your Nails

It’s my goal in life to get you to paint your nails on a regular basis.

Not because I own stock in a nail company (although I should) or that they’re paying me to (I wish they would), no, it’s simply because I know first hand the confidence inducing power a well manicured hand can produce.

In an effort to get you a step closer, here is a look at the best (and most flattering) ways to file your nails. If you do nothing else with them this week, at least file them into a flattering shape!

Oval:
This shape flatters both wide and narrow nail beds. To achieve it, file down the sides of your nails first, then slightly round out the edges. Make sure that both sides of the nail turn out evenly.

Square:
The square shape is something to try if you have a bigger nail area, but stay away from it if your nails are small. It also helps flatter nails that are really narrow, by making them appear wider (isn’t it amazing how this all works?). To achieve this shape file the sides, then flatten out the top. I like to take the file and brush down on the edge of my nail so that the ends aren’t so sharp.

Square/Oval (Squoval or Ovuare):
This is the most universally flattering shape, but the nails that receive the biggest benefit are the wide ones. Start the same way you would when forming the square shape, then afterwards round your corners just slightly.

Round (Men’s wear):
This shape works the best if you like your nails short or if you’re a man. If you fall in neither of these categories skip to the bottom ;) By rounding your shorter nails, it helps to make them look thinner. File your nails into a short square shape, then really round out the edges.

Almond:
If you are a hard core almond shape lover, you probably need to allot extra time for typing. That’s the downfall to this shape (that and you share the same nail shape as Lady Gaga – which you may consider a blessing, I don’t know). The benefit to this shape is that it does cause your fingers to appear long and lean (like a great little LBD). I would recommend this shape be done with acrylic nails.

I hope this gets you that much closer to having a regular nail regimen. Feel free to email me if you have any questions elizabeth@thespiff.com

Have a beautiful weekend!

Do It Yourself Spa Treatment You’re Going to Want to Try

Set a goal of treating your skin right this year by starting with some easy spa treatments. And when I say easy, I mean – the machine that cleans the litter box for you – easy (and a lot better smelling).

So don’t ever tell me you don’t have the time or the resources to relax for a few minutes. All of this costs less than $50…total. And the whole thing will take you less than an hour!

Watch the video and make it a point to try at least one thing this week.

Here’s a link to the Kiehl’s face mask, you can also get it in town at Belk in West Town Mall. For the nail stuff I recommend going to Crabtree & Evelyn because their stuff is so luxurious and very well priced.

One more note: if you suffer from sever acne or rosacea, you may want to stay away from steam.

If you missed yesterdays blog, check it out to see the hot nail colors for spring!

Spring 2014 Nail Colors

Ready for some spring? Then check out these gorgeous spring nail colors…

I’ve got to admit, while I’m not a fan of pastels, any version of the color group in small doses (aka your nails) makes them seem a lot more chic and a lot less Easter egg. Especially when I pair petal pink nails with lots of black *grins.

As I mentioned pastels are kings of the color world this spring. A sky blue like this aptly named “Sky Nail” by Crabtree & Evelyn is a great option if you want to do something a little playful…

If you’re looking to stay in the classic pink category then Crabtree also makes this gorgeous “Lady Slipper” which could add a beautiful sheen in just one coat or give you a little more depth of color with two.

Coral is also a great way to go (and just happens to be the most universally flattering color). I think Essie’s version is spot on. It’s from their Resort Fling collection and is called “Alluring Coral Peach.”

Finally, another great color category that’s both trendy and flattering are neutrals. Much like a nude shoe elongates your legs, so does nude nail polish elongate your fingers. If you want the illusion of long fingers, pop in at Clinique and pick up one of the colors from their nudes collection, and do it fast because it won’t be around for long.
