Update Your Makeup Routine for Summer

bare minerals, bare essentials, good skin, how to have good skin, good cleansers for your skin, west town mall, knoxville fashion blogger, knoxville beauty blogger

Summer is unofficially here! You know what that means? Fall is only a few months away!!!

While driving this morning I got excited about how close fall really is, but I’ll put that on the back burner to bring you this segment from last summer on great makeup for hot days.

I took the day off yesterday, but I still agree with (and use) all of these products, so I hope you enjoy!

In the summer, the only thing I want to feel on my lips is cold gelato.

Rubbing gelato on your lips instead of lipstick is pretty messy and doesn’t produce the perfect pout, turns out….”hypothetically”.

So my pout was pretty pumped when the women at Bare Minerals in West Town Mall told me that there was a moisturizing matte lipstick coming out.

Moisturizing AND matte?! It must be witchcraft!

Nope. It’s just science and the brains behind Bare Minerals.

In my past experience with matte lipsticks I would end up feeling my lips after a while. Like someone had just applied false eyelashes to them – you know that feeling of being aware of every blink when you first put them on? That’s it.

And on top that, the color would wear off like I had some kind of medical issue on my mouth.

This new liquid matte lipstick is amazing. It glides on (a little goes a long way), it stays on nicely and if you get a shade that’s a little bit pinker than your skin tone it looks like you’ve got soft Victoria Secret model lips.

The shade I’m wearing is “Swag” and oh, did I mention that this was 3 hours after I applied it during which time I worked out OUTSIDE. I’m just going to step away now and let you buy some for yourself…

Let Me Help You Style Those White Pants

white pants, chico's west town mall, west town mall, chico's, what to wear with white pants, how to style white pants, rule on white pants, knoxville fashion

It’s the time of year for white pants!

You can wear them whenever because the old rules of waiting till Memorial Day have been thrown out (as you’ll see me awkwardly repeat after Abby in the segment below). But it’s still fun to amp up your usage now that summer is unofficially almost here.

So what to wear with white and how can you transition your white bottoms from casual to dressy occasions?

Your every question answered with these beautiful pieces from Chico’s in West Town Mall!

This jean jacket, by the way, is one of the cutest jean jackets I’ve ever seen and has been stuck in my brain ever since I did the segment so I’m considering adoption…

PS: The top I’m wearing cost TEN DOLLARS and is from Forever21 (they have other colors available too)!

The Big One

One. Seems like such a small number considering all the laughter, adventures, learning, loving and joy this guy has introduced into our lives this past year. 365 is closer to being more appropriate. But I can’t keep up with his age in months now, let alone days. How about I just keep up with him ;)

I wanted to share with you the pictures from his first party this past summer. It was such a blessing to be able to celebrate him with loving friends and family!

We went all out because this was the big one

Look Good Through the Heat & Humidity

I AM THE MOTHER OF A ONE YEAR OLD.

Admitting it in all caps is going to help it sink in, right?! Although I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel once it does sink in…

I do know this – I’m excited about him turning one and all the adventures and learning and growing it will bring! (Unless any of those adventures/learning/growing involve blood, bugs or bugers).

He had a pretty epic party and I can’t wait to show you pictures from it – Southern Roots Photography always does an amazing job!

For now, I want to help you finish out the summer looking spiffy!

Here are links to two of my articles for Knoxville Families Magazine…

The first is all about how to dress for a kids pool party.

Even if you don’t necessarily have one of those to go to, my hope is that it will help you figure out what to wear for events that could be tricky.

The second is how to help your hair beautifully survive the humidity that has made itself comfortable.

As you will read, I have a black belt in fighting frizz, so learn from my ways, Grasshopper.

I hope you have a wonderful week! I’m looking forward to spending more focused time on the blog now that I have someone’s first birthday party under my belt. :)

A Confidence Boost for Your Week

knoxville fashion blogger, knoxville fashion blog, confidence boost, how to boost your confidence, how to be confident, knoxville fashion blog, funny fashion blog, east tn fashion, knoxville fashion

Don’t waste a single minute this week thinking insecure thoughts.

As a wise person once said, “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

We really don’t have time for worrying about trivial problems, or thinking we can’t do this or that.

Just be!

Clear your head of the Pinterest-perfect life you see on social media. Be present when you’re around other people and not miles away on a screen. Know that your worth is grounded in the fact that God loves you so much.

There is a verse I have on repeat in my head. I cemented it in there by making it a part of my every day, and at first, it was just a great thing to say in the mornings. But then I started realizing just how useful it was.

After having moved this year, my to-do list has grown tremendously. And with a curious and very mobile baby to add to the list of jobs I ALREADY have to do – moments of feeling completely overwhelmed and under-energized would pop up.

That’s when I realized just how important the verse was that I had ground into my head…

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” – Phillippians 4:13

All things, it says. Once you start repeating that to yourself over and over again, you’ll be amazed at the number of situations you’ll be able to apply it to.

Don’t love what you see in the mirror? You can do all things – including find how beautiful God made you.

Want to lose weight? You can do all things – including knowing what to eat or do to best work with your body.

Don’t know how you’re going to balance work and motherhood? You can do all things through the strength that comes from God.

Have dreams and desires but you don’t know they’ll come about? Through Christ!

I could make this list miles long. You apply it to whatever it is you need this week…and for the rest of your life.

The sign I’m holding in the picture has a list of things that can more easily be done when you’re confident in the person God made you to be. Which is what He’s called us to do – meditate on His word (Psalm 1:3), enjoy life (John 10:10), experience a peace that passes all understanding (Phillippians 4:7).

Then share the eternal joy and peace with others!
