If I would just listen to my husband and park where he parks at West Town Mall, I wouldn’t forget about this magical place that had this super cute, SUPER soft shirt for $3.

My husband swears by parking outside of Sear’s tool section.

It’s “always got a parking spot close to the door”. I find it awefully convenient that we have to walk through the tool section every single time we go to the mall. *rolls eyes, shakes head

ANYWAY, I was in there the other day and realized I hadn’t visited Rue21 in a while. They are my favorite place to go for exactly the kind of shirt I’m wearing in these pictures. One that’s really cute, and goes well with jeans and sneakers (or in this case Sperry’s I got at the Dillard’s shoe sale!). It’s perfect for walking around Market Square or Dollywood on a Saturday.

I pretty much live my life in workout clothes, so this is actually taking it up a notch from my everyday look. Which is nice to do! Especially when the top is this soft – seriously, I wish I could let you reach into your screen and feel it. Rub a baby’s butt if you’ve got one nearby – it’s the same thing (only do that if they’re your child).

The thing about Rue (we’re on a first name basis now) is they throw things on sale for a hot minute. I went back the next day to browse some more and the $3 sale was off. But you better bet that I’ll be back!

I guess it means I should park outside of the Sears tool section UGH! Don’t anyone tell him he was right! ;)

Let’s just address the elephant in the room – that is a crazy sunburn on my leg. STOP STARRING.

It appeared while we were on vacation in spite of the fact that I had religiously applied sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and every 2 hours after that. Oh well.

So this skirt, right!?

I bought it on Amazon to wear on Mother’s Day and it’s perfect. I love the A-line shape, I extra love the flower and stripe mix – I could wear that all day everyday. Styling it was a little bit difficult because there’s so much going on, but here’s how I did it…

Tucking the shirt in seemed to create too harsh of a line at my waist and leaving it out would make it way too sloppy. The knot was the perfect way to go (keeping the knot was a little bit difficult, surprisingly). What would have helped were those clear tiny elastics, but I couldn’t find any.

Because there’s so much going on with the skirt, a solid shirt is totally called for. This skirt also works with a black shirt – a combination perfect for a night summer wedding. I would say that I tried to pair a pink shirt with it, but I couldn’t find a pink that exactly matched the flowers and that bothered me. I’m not a matchy matchy person, but I think two different pinks competing like that diminishes the appeal of the print.

A big bold skirt is fun to have in your closet to play around with different looks!

Links to Spiff Up Your Summer

summer to do list, knoxrocks

Currently, I’m a sucker for articles that talk about making your life easier.

Whether it’s doing the wash, cleaning the house, balancing work and baby – I want any tips that can help me do all of that without collapsing in a sweaty heap of exhaustion.

And since I aim to write the blog I want to read, I’ve got several links here that will help make your summer season easier.

One

Enjoy an article from a talented writer who takes you on an incredible journey to find the perfect summer necklace. Well, the talented part is true, the “incredible journey” is more like a 150-word post with a joke here and there ;) It is a great summer alternative to the statement necklace without all the weight.

Two

Here’s a post about how to make your meal planning/cooking easy. I use this same service, and I think it’s funny that the girl who wrote this post doesn’t like cooking at all yet still enjoys the service. I, on the other hand, LOVE cooking and two am a big fan of this meal service.

So whichever camp you fall in, you’ll be pleased.

Three

The idea of making a summer to-do list sounds so fun! This was written by Piper Hansen, an impressive young girl who is truly making a name for herself. This post will inspire your summer fun, but keep it organized so it’s not overwhelming. It will also be great to look back on to see all that you did over the summer months – I love that because then it will help me feel as if I properly soaked up every moment :)

Four

So this is going to get a little awkward… The last link is to an article I wrote about what to have in your summer beauty bag. Turns out one of these items gave me a rash. I’ll let you decipher which one…just kidding.

The “free and clear” sunscreen…yeah, that didn’t leave me free of itching and clear of bumps and redness at all. Nor did it leave my baby clear of those things either. Whaaa Whaaaa.

Beware of that, but do enjoy everything else in the bag.

The tinted moisturizer from Bare Minerals is TRULY AMAZING. I want to put it on my whole body.

Time-Savers to Help You Look Cute Quick

the limited, tunic top, how to get ready fast, how to look cute quick, knoxville fashion blogger

The minute my alarm goes off tomorrow morning, I’m going to be reaching to slap it first, then I’m going to be reaching for whatever makes me look cute the fastest (there’s a couple things that go on in between those two actions…yoga, making a three course breakfast, cleaning and re-organizing my house, grinding fresh beans for coffee…just your average morning routine).

Here are three easy tricks to help you look pulled together in a jiffy.

One: Patterns.

A pattern automatically gives your outfit visual interest, which means you can get away with accessorizing very little or not at all.

The fact that we’re currently in the middle of winter, plaid is a great pattern to grab with its depths of colors and lines. It goes beyond stripes, but don’t tell stripes I said that.

Pick this top up at The Limited in West Town Mall

Two: Bold Lips.

If you don’t have time to do a full-on eye routine, a bold lip gives you an intentional, pulled together look. This NARS lipstick stays put very well and the color is matte and beautiful.

Get your own at Sephora in West Town Mall.

Three: Tunic Tops.

This time of year especially it’s nice to wear tights and tights with a top that’s comfortable, warm and can support a great scarf. Tunics are a constant in my world right now, this exact tunic especially.

It looks like you’re wearing two pieces but in fact you’re wearing one. It’s super comfortable and has that magical ability to be dressed up or down. I tell you, ladies, I own three and I wish I could poses more colors.

In the spring I think I’ll try tucking that bottom layer into a maxi skirt to get more use out of it.

You can pick yours up at TheLimited.

Three Habits to Improve Your Style

style, habits to improve your style, knoxville fashion blogger, fashion blogger, beauty blogger, improve your style, how to improve your style

Ten years ago, it was not an uncommon occurrence for me to be wildly late to functions (or sometimes even miss them) because I couldn’t figure out what to wear.

Shopping was kind of a mess because I would buy really cheap things that looked cheap, or really expensive things that I hardly ever wore. I sometimes didn’t dress appropriately for the occasion and would spend the entire evening on edge because I wasn’t happy with how I was presenting myself.

The frustrations of these incidents drove me to start concentrating on my style. I read, did research, looked at countless pictures and started to really get to know myself, what worked on my body and what I should save and splurge on.

Today? If I’m late, it’s not because of my outfit. I can’t think of the last time I was stumped on what to wear. I’ve got a closet full of clothes I wear with a mixture of high end classic pieces and less expensive things to keep everything fresh. And I’m always dressed appropriately for the occasion and therefore a much happier person ;)

If you are at all like 10-years-ago me, develop these habits and you’ll edge out the clothing frustrations…

style, habits to improve your style, knoxville fashion blogger, fashion blogger, beauty blogger, improve your style, how to improve your style

1. Don’t be a slave to trends.

If you don’t like a trend, don’t wear it. Wear what you love. The more you try to work in something you don’t feel good in, the more frustrated you’ll be. Decide if you like it first and foremost. And if you can’t decide, buy a cheap version of it, take it for a test run and see what you think.

2. Know what works for your body and taste.

Next time you’re shopping, or getting dressed and you don’t like the way something makes your hips look or your belly – make a note of it and quit buying it! The biggest benefit to this is it will help you shop faster. I can blaze by cap sleeves, bell sleeves, a-symmetrical hem lines and high-waisted pants because I know they don’t flow with my style/body type.

3. Come up with multiple ways to wear something.

When you find a piece that really showcases your style and works well with your shape, you want to be able to wear it over and over again. This doesn’t mean that you have to wear it with the same pants, the same jewelry, the same combination that you did the first time. When you pick up something in the store, stop and think of two ways you can wear it before buying it. If you can’t think of anything, then get in the habit of experimenting with things you already own. Just play around and break things out of their box.
