Spiffy Family Holiday Outfits

I’ve been making TV appearances every other week for six and a half years now. In that time I can think of a handful of special appearances like the time I announced being pregnant with Jackson or the time my husband went with me (and made me the latest I’ve ever been, haha). I’d include the time I announced Elianna but it wasn’t as exciting only because there was a miscommunication and we kind of glossed over it. Oh well.

Recently, however, I had another TV appearance to add to that list – I had my little boy join me on air! It wasn’t his first time on TV, haha no that happened when he was three months old. But it was his first time being a clothing model.

So give it a watch and see how good he does! Oh yeah and enjoy the looks for your kids from Dillard’s. And double oh yeah – there’s some good tips on dressing your family in there too ;)

Fun Makeup Looks for an Easy Costume

west town mall, dillards west town mall, knoxville shopping, costume ideas, the edge in dillards, west town mall makeup, knoxville makeup

Dress up your face.

It’s ironic that every year I provide these ideas, but I rarely dress up myself. Once I ran out of brunette TV characters I enjoyed watching, EO out!

But that doesn’t mean I won’t still provide YOU with some fun easy costume ideas.

I love these makeup looks because they’re easy and cost effective – in fact you can spend as much as you want on them! So here’s the deal..

Go to Dillard’s at West Town Mall and find The Edge, which is the beauty counter next to Clinique where they have a bunch of different brands. Ask for Marissa and schedule an appointment with her. When she does your makeup all you have to do is buy 2 or 3 products. And the great thing is they have a wide range of price options AND a wide range of things you need. I mean come on, what woman has a hard time finding something to buy at a makeup/skincare counter? Not this one I can tell you that.

I think having your face done up for a costume is a great way to go because you can keep the rest of your look pretty simple. You already look elaborate, so why stress over your clothes?

Here are the looks she gave me…

Have You Been to The Edge?

You’ll want to live life there (get it?…on “the edge”)

It doesn’t matter how many reviews you read, or how many YouTube videos you watch, there is nothing like going and shopping for things in person. Touching the product, even trying it out. Hearing from a LIVE person why it will or won’t help your skin type. It’s just such a more personalized experience – no clicking required.

Which is why I’m thankful Dillard’s has the beauty experience called “The Edge.” Located inside their beauty department, The Edge features a number of brands that are hard to find anywhere else in person, and great customer service by people who are makeup freelancers on the side – so they know.

My favorite part is they offer classes and training! Yes please! A lot of the tips and tricks I’ve learned came from good ole’ fashion classes in the mall. Years ago MAC offered them periodically and I learned A LOT by going to those. In fact I use a lot of those same tips today!

They have one coming up on August 27th that is at two different times – one in the mid-morning and one in the afternoon. The cost is $45 – but that goes towards buying makeup – which you’re going to want to do after hearing how to use everything and how certain products can help you look and feel your best.

Go check out the Edge and say hello to Aryn (pronounced Erin), Marissa, or Audrey! They are all super nice and will be happy to help!

If the combination of “Dillard’s” and “outlet” has you puzzled and confused BUCKLE YOUR SEAT BELT.

There are a handful of these stores around. The closest one to me is in Asheville. If you’re blessed to have been to one or if you’re living in the promise land and have one in your own town then count your blessings.

I usually hit mine up on the way back from a trip somewhere. Which means my husband and child are in the car and I’m given a “you get in and out within 45 minutes cause I’m ready to be home” talk. Honestly, I like the time crunch. This place is so vast and potentially overwhelming, that a time crunch really helps me focus and quickly filter what it is I’m willing to look at.

To help you out, here are a few things I’ve learned shopping at a Dillard’s Outlet…

1. They have weird hours and an ever-changing sale cycle. Before you make your trip, call ahead. They have a recording of what’s on sale that week. Also, the one in Asheville is only open from 12-7, so plan accordingly.

2. Don’t go in with a list. You never know what they’re going to have. Every time I’ve been there they’ve had zero boy clothes, but this last time? It was a boy mom’s DREAM. Go in with a full wallet and empty expectations.

3. Be prepared to shop a season ahead. Again, you don’t know what they’re going to have, but they will certainly have a plethora of what the opposite season is. Which means this time of year lots of sweaters, coats and boots. Not saying they won’t have anything for the current season, but don’t discount (#punalert) the section that’s for the next season. This last trip I bought a GORGEOUS Calvin Klein velvet blazer for $24. You know who’s going to love me for that? Future Elizabeth. Keep future you in mind and how much she will love pulling out a brand new item in a few months.

4. Get your digging gloves on…or digging shoes? Either way, be prepared to dig. Really, it’s a Dillard’s “garage sale”. That’s how you have to think of it. Someone lives in Dillard’s and decided to clean out their massive, two story closet, so they threw everything together in a pile and put it on sale. So ya have to dig. But my digging got me an Antonio Melanie bikini that was originally $132 for $20. Yeah girl.

5. Your shopping style needs to be on high speed. Like I said, I’m often on a time constraint, which I’m happy about and recommend. Otherwise I would probably need to be escorted out by security at the end of the night (or fall asleep in the home section). To get the most out of the trip, I crank my shopping style up to high speed – walking down as many isles as I can without even touching a shirt. I just look for something poking out that looks like it fits my style. And you know how when I talk about closet cleaning and how you need to look at something and go with that split-second gut reaction as to whether or not you’ll wear it again? Bring that same decision making ability to this store.

Remember all of these things and you’ll walk out with bags of great deals and quality things to wear all year round (for the whole family – fingers crossed)!

More sale shopping tips right here! And here are my regular Dillard’s sale picks – from the one in West Town Mall.
