A Quick Polish Trick to Make Your Nails Look Good in Seconds

We all have our little beauty quirks  must-have’s. Those things that we just HAVE to do or we won’t feel gorgeous. I’m sure for some it’s to have on eyeliner, or maybe it’s to always have on lipstick.

Mine? I can’t go without painted nails (I’ve tried, but I truly just can’t).

Saturday night I thought about going the next four days without polish so that I could easily do my nails on Wednesday for Thanksgiving. The thought lasted about 2 seconds. I just can’t go without color.

So I came up with this little trick that saved me time, but still gave me pretty nails.

Here’s what I did…

I painted OPI’s “Start to Finish” on my nails first. This provides a great base coat, and gives the polish something to latch onto. I don’t always use it as a “finish” but even just painting a base helps your nail color last days longer than it would have on its own.

Then I did one (and only one) layer of “Designer De Better.” I’ve written about this color so many times I could link every word in this blog to another post. Just know I love it.

But you can do any kind of shimmery color. Just make sure it has shimmer. Any other color would look terrible with just one light layer on your nails. By going with one with glint and/or shimmer, it can still look good in just one coat and gives your nails a gorgeous sheen.

Done. Manicure painted and dry in less than 10 minutes, and I feel like a woman again ;)

What’s your beauty must-have!?

This Weeks Nails

Red is weird (sorry Taylor).

I don’t hate the color, but I am never ever drawn to it. It’s as if it’s not even an option in my mind.

So when it comes to having classic red nails, like I do this week, it’s a rarity worthy of celebration.

Last week I purchased a cute leopard top from JCP (for less than $20!) that spawned the whole thought process.

Wearing the leopard made me crave dramatic cat eyes and classic red nails, so I leaned into it and dusted off my OPI’s “InStyle Red” (it’s a polish InStyle gave out as a subscription bonus). Since that name isn’t any fun, I’m going to rename it, “Isn’t Red-iculous?”

I don’t mind the shade at all. It’s very candy-apple-esque. And it only makes me wonder what other shades have I been passing by that may actually suit my fancy?

How about you? Maybe it’s not the classic colors you have qualms with, maybe it’s the funky ones. Try something you’ve never tried before and see what you think!

This Weeks Nails

I’m with Brad this week.

Let me explain…

I love to get inspired for my next nail color. Instead of standing in front of all the bottles, staring blankly at each color wondering which one to use next, I like to have a color craving.

Two weekends ago I watched a hostess type in my name with nails painted a deep dark red. It made me crave that color, so this week I turned to my Sephora brand OPI color of “I’m with Brad.”

Overall, I’m not a huge fan of Sephora’s OPI because the brush is very very small, however I have had this color for years and it painted on and dried like it was brand new. So there’s something good about their version.

I love this color because it’s such a rich, deep dark red that you can almost miss the redness. What you don’t miss is the fact that it’s got such great depth of color and that’s what makes it so gorgeous.

Hopefully I’ve inspired you with a color crave. What color shall we paint our nails next!?

Happy November!

I hope you’re happily nursing a candy hangover this morning :)

It’s been such a fun-filled week, from costumes to birthdays and so much more in between.

I didn’t get a chance to tell you about the nail polish I chose for the week that I crossed over into a new decade, so I thought I’d repost the first time I wrote about this color.

Enjoy, and have a wonderful fun-filled weekend!

Pastels and I, we’re not good friends.
If I were to pass a pastel in the hallway, I would nod politely but that’s it.

They’re just not in my coloring.

I am, however, currently breaking the code of our relationship by loving this lilac nail color.

It’s a nice light shade that gives all my dark/jewel tone/bright colors a bit of a reprieve.

I say this every time I paint a purple on my nails, but it bears repeating because it’s so true. Purple is the perfect color because it’s out of the box enough to read, “I don’t take myself too seriously”, but is not so far out of the box that I look juvenile at work.

The color name is, “Do you lilac it?” and it’s by OPI (which you knew the moment you read that clever name). This time I took away some depth and painted over it Essie’s Matte About You Mattifier (which OPI has their own version now-finally!).

I absolutely adore how a mattifier makes a color look so different and brighter yet quieter at the same time. It’s really a great purchase for livening up your current polish collection.

Fall Polish Found in New Places

It’s beginning to feel a lot like au-tumn! (I’ve honestly sang that more than once).

Oh, I’m excited about fall!

One of the hundreds of things I love about this season are the nail colors. I will happily trade in the brights for some inky purples and shimmery silvers. Yes, this is the most wonderful time of the year!

For some new color inspiration and ideas on where to buy them (so many stores carry nail polish now) check out my new Style Setter blog.
