Glowing Winter Skin – Not an Oxymoron

Anyone else fervently praying for snow? CAUSE YOU KNOW I AM.

I so love winter and the lack of bugs it brings with it. I also love the lack of events. I’m such a homebody, especially after having a child, and any day I can spend entirely in my house without even getting in the car is a good day by me.

It’s also a great time to care for your skin since no makeup will be seeing the light of day.

That’s why I like to stock up on great masks and I recently spent some time in Sephora at West Town Mall getting a quick tutorial on masks and which ones are good ones…which I passed onto you in last weeks segment on Ten News This Morning.

So watch it, then go get your bread, milk, eggs and face masks!

Have Your Best Winter Skin with These Products

hydrating products, fresh kale bath company, night cream product review, knoxville shop local, west town mall, knoxville beauty blogger

Glowing skin this time of year doesn’t have to be as absurd an idea as the bikinis that are now on sale at Target. (REALLY GUYS?!)

With some extra care, some hacks and the right products, you can enjoy the winter months without itching or flaking your way through it.

I’ve got some great products in addition to a lip hack that has saved me chapped lips ALL WINTER…

Cleansers:

Every single night I take off my makeup, and while it sounds silly that a makeup remover can save your skin moisture – it really does make a difference! The wrong kind can strip your skin leaving it feeling tight and dry, but not this…

This rag is amazing. It takes off everything, everything. In fact you can dry your face with a white towel afterwards and not see any makeup on it. Not many makeup removers can accomplish that. Its also nice to know you’re not using any crazy chemicals on your face. Not to mention you can use it several times, wash then use it again so you never run out of “product.” Just be sure to rinse then hang dry.

Bonus Day Cream:

I call this bonus because I assume you’re applying a moisturizer every day with an SPF in it. If not, you need to go in time out. For ten minutes – I’ll wait.

I love a good tinted moisturizer which I’ll use by itself (sometimes mixed with a highlighter for extra spiff) or if I’m feeling dry I’ll use it as a primer. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Gel Cream has all the words you want going on your face but also delivers MAJOR amounts of moisture. I used to have a dry forehead problem in the winter, but not any more!

It delivers the perfect amount of light coverage AND it’s only $30 for a tube that lasts me about 6 months even when I use it just about every day. I really believe this stuff will have me looking 30 well into my 80’s. Okay, maybe 60’s.

Pick yours up (they have a myriad of shades) from Anna or Sarah at Bare Minerals in West Town Mall – they’re super nice and helpful!

Night Cream:

Moisturizing as much as possible is so important for the life of your skin. Not that I claim to be a skin care expert, but I can imagine, as can you, that there’s no such thing as “too much moisture” when it comes to staving off signs of aging.

I LOVE the Silk cream made (in-house by the way) by Fresh Kale Bath Company at West Town Mall. It’s super luxurious feeling cream that soaks in quickly and leaves my skin soft well into the next morning. Plus the added benefit of being able to read and recognize every ingredient is HUGE.

Lip balm:

I love a bold lip but those matte lipsticks can dry your lips out, not to mention really highlight some dry lips. I abhor it when I go to put on a lipstick and all it does is draw attention to my dry-flaky lips. Which is why I’ve started a thing that has really saved me this winter…

I leave lip balm out on my dresser so that every time I stop – whether it’s to put away some socks, put up my hair, apply makeup or right before bed I’m slathering my lips with lip balm. Otherwise I wait till it’s an emergency and by then it’s so uncomfortable.

This habit has really saved me from having chapped lips this winter, so I would recommend you do the same. Just leave some good stuff out in a place you pass often and every time you see it – apply it!

Why I Brag About Myself (and not just because it’s my birthday)

4U6A9609

Let’s chat about loving ourselves.

If you have followed any of my content for any amount of time, you know that I’m not afraid to brag about myself. It’s done in a joking manner and the thought behind that is you don’t find many people who brag about themselves. Most often people are putting themselves down (especially women) – something I noticed a long time ago and wanted to change about myself.

You may think it’s funny, you may think it’s annoying, but I want to share the main reason behind why I do it…

I love getting to be who God created me to be. When I look in the mirror, I’m happy with what I see and thankful for the way God made me.

My first thought in writing that is how cocky it makes me sound (at first I wasn’t comfortable putting it in bold letters but I want it to grab your attention). Trust me, I can list off my flaws faster than you can say shoe sale. I didn’t get to being thankful for who I am overnight. It’s something I’ve worked at, studied scriptures on and pressed into for a good chunk of my life. And it pays off!

No the journey is not over. There are still days where I have to work at changing my thoughts about myself. But because the foundation of God’s word has been sewn into my spirit with verses such as, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) or “God is the health of my countenance” (Psalm 42:5), it’s easier to shoot down those darts of self depreciation.

So I’m sharing this because I want to encourage you.

A birthday doesn’t have to be a dreaded thing – “He renews your youth like the eagles” (Psalm 103:5). It’s another year that you get to be you. The person that God uniquely created to reflect an aspect of His Being. Someone with particular attributes He wanted to show off in the form of YOU. Since we’re all created in His image and we’re all so different it only makes sense that He uses people to show off different aspects of Himself. So celebrate what He put together in you!

Don’t fear or dread growing older, but look forward to the wisdom and experience of another year that you bring to the table.

And if for no other reason – enjoy being you because of this verse. This particular verse The Spiff is founded on because helping women love who God created them to be is the passion that drives my efforts…

Luke 14:11, “…if you are content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself,”

I want to be more than myself because that means I’m tapping into the supernatural “me” God had in mind all along. Let’s do it together!

Fun Makeup Looks for an Easy Costume

west town mall, dillards west town mall, knoxville shopping, costume ideas, the edge in dillards, west town mall makeup, knoxville makeup

Dress up your face.

It’s ironic that every year I provide these ideas, but I rarely dress up myself. Once I ran out of brunette TV characters I enjoyed watching, EO out!

But that doesn’t mean I won’t still provide YOU with some fun easy costume ideas.

I love these makeup looks because they’re easy and cost effective – in fact you can spend as much as you want on them! So here’s the deal..

Go to Dillard’s at West Town Mall and find The Edge, which is the beauty counter next to Clinique where they have a bunch of different brands. Ask for Marissa and schedule an appointment with her. When she does your makeup all you have to do is buy 2 or 3 products. And the great thing is they have a wide range of price options AND a wide range of things you need. I mean come on, what woman has a hard time finding something to buy at a makeup/skincare counter? Not this one I can tell you that.

I think having your face done up for a costume is a great way to go because you can keep the rest of your look pretty simple. You already look elaborate, so why stress over your clothes?

Here are the looks she gave me…

A Spiffy Girl

elianna

When I say we’re going to need a bigger closet, I mean it.

elianna

This week we announced news we’ve been relishing in ourselves for almost three months now – we’re having another baby!

I was excited to get all the details out at the same time – the fact that it’s a girl and her name is Elianna (middle name TBD).

The idea that I’ll be dropping “Dude” and Dinosaurs for “her” and bows (also TBD, haha I’m trying to work up a love for bows currently) is still settling in, however, she is truly an answer to prayer and I am resting in the fact that God will equip me to be a mother to this little sweetheart.

I’ve had this name picked out for over 15 years – before I even knew my husband. In Hebrew it means, “God has answered.” And boy, is that spot on! We’ve been believing for another baby and He has answered in the perfect way.

There’s so much more I can say but I’m still in processing mode so it’s not coming out as smoothly as I’d like.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing in our excitement!
