Christmas Gift Idea: A Little Thing

studs, earrings, christmas gift ideas for girls, starburst earrings, earrings, gold studs, gold earrings

If you’re like me and having a hard time figuring out what to put on your Christmas list, two things…

1. We’re so blessed and let’s thank God for it!

2. I’m going to do my best to give you (and in turn give myself) some ideas of what to put on the list.

Hopefully this little series will also inspire you with what to buy someone else!

The first Christmas gift idea? Tiny earrings.

Perfect to give:

They’re easy to buy for someone whose style you’re not quite sure of. You can buy several pairs, giving them plenty of options to choose from. And maybe even go a little crazy and find something that they would like but might be out of their comfort zone. The great thing is, they’re so small so they’re only making a teeny tiny statement :)

Perfect to receive:

Studs are that little detail that really set off your look. And because they’re so small they’re not always something you want to spend your money on. But it’s so nice to have a collection of them around. I love to have different ones because they’re usually what I pair with my statement necklaces for that little bit of glimmer without going overboard.

These earrings were a gift from my brother :)

The Limited has some really gorgeous ones, and right now their jewelry is on sale! So go stock up and add them to your list!!

Treat Yo’ Self to Cute Only You Can See

francescas, stud earrings, black and white earrings, leopard earrings, cute earrings, earrings, knoxville fashion, studs, patterned earrings, accessories

You know how people say that integrity is doing what’s right even when no one can see you? I’m going to borrow from that because I think having great style is being cute even when no one can see it. These little studs from Francesca’s are a great example of that.

The minute I saw them I knew I had to have them. And as far as I know, I’m the only one to ever really enjoy them. I’m not even sure if people can see them around all of my hair. But I wear them because they’re just another layer of cute that I love.

Same goes for the rest of these…

stud earrings, cute earrings, studs, earrings with words, earrings with a pattern, patterned earrings, jewel earrings

And yes, that one with the words on it does say “Elizabeth” is that not the coolest thing ever!? They were a gift :)

There’s a special kind of confidence that comes with secretly wearing something cute. Like your underwear. Which sounds like a joke, but it’s a good example. Cute underwear can really make a girl walk taller, can’t it?

What have you treated yourself to lately that’s something only you’ll enjoy? And maybe someone will catch a glimpse of it, or you’ll post a giant picture of it and hashtag the crap out of it (crazy kids) but for the most part you bought it because YOU love it and you want that extra secret layer of cute.

That’s fun. Let’s all try it ;)

Swingy vs. Statement Necklaces

how to accessorize

Styling can be the hardest part of getting dressed, but it can also make or break your outfit. So no pressure, but get it right every time. Ok?

No, that’s a joke. You need to get it right 90% of the time.*

*Also a joke.

I want to help you get in the swing of knowing what necklace to wear, so take a gander at these two looks from Ann Taylor in West Town Mall (this picture was taken at the Fall Indulge event in West Town Mall).

On the right, we have a great LBD with lace detailing. In this instance the statement necklace is best because she’s got a solid stripe there at the top, providing the perfect backdrop to showcase one of Ann’s gorgeous accessories.

If the top strip had been the lace portion, that would have been enough going on visually so earrings would have been best.

The look on the right calls for a long necklace, because she has all of that great real-estate right down the center of her body. The coat (or sometimes sweater) draws the eye in towards the center, making it the perfect spot for something long and swingy.

How to Get Accessories Just Right

Accessories can be a lot like your spouse – total joy inducing one moment, so frustrating you want to throw something (0r someone) across the room the next (but at the end of the day you love them so much)!

Don’t throw anything (or anyone) across the room. Instead, keep reading…

The questions I get asked the most are about styling. Accessorizing is really one of the most important concepts to grasp when it comes to fashion, because you can have a gorgeous outfit but if you don’t style it right, the beauty of it can get visually lost.

By “visually lost” I mean you’ve put on too much jewelry. The edit I want to most often make is to take jewelry away. If you’ve ever asked yourself if something is “too much,” take it off. It’s better to err on the side of wearing too little, rather than too much.

Pictured is a great example of what I’m talking about…

On the left I’m wearing a necklace and dangle earrings.  This necklace does not belong with this outfit because the top of the jacket is competing for attention in that same space. Now if the jacket folded out like a blazer, then this necklace would be acceptable. But I don’t want to deal with competing visuals in that space, so I need to take the necklace off. If I had changed jackets and kept the necklace, I would have paired it with simple stud earrings.

Why? Because the necklace is really pretty and the more jewelry I add to myself the less any of it (or ME for that matter) is going to get noticed.

These earrings would technically work with this outfit, but I changed to these slim triangle ones because I love how they have a mix of silver and gold going. Plus they add more edginess to the whole look.

I have seen these rules broken before, and watched even celebrities wear strong statement necklaces with equally huge earrings. And sometimes people can pull it off! But in my book, less is always more. You don’t want to tire yourself out (we all know a heavy necklace and/or earrings gets old after a while) and I don’t want to look overrun.

Let your beauty shine the brightest, and make accessories just the tastefully added icing. (Print THAT on wood and hang it in your bathroom).

These Necklaces Are Appropriate for Your Age

I went with that title, because I didn’t want you to sigh, run, scream or cry when you read these necklaces all came from Forever21.

Whether you get overwhelmed, frustrated, feeling too old, too young or just start to salivate when you walk in there, they’ve got good deals on jewelry so it’s worth the trip.

I’ve picked out five statement necklaces that can really jazz up a simple outfit (at any age) and they’re all under $15 (yeah you read that right).

statement necklaces

1. Clustered Marsquis Bib Necklace: This is such a pretty and simple piece that would add such a huge dose of lovely to a simple tank and cardigan.

2. Bold Color Blocked Beaded Necklace: If you have trouble adding color to your wardrobe, try doing so with a bold necklace like this one. Throw it on with gray, black, white, or if you’re feeling adventurous – red!

3. Faux Gem Collar Necklace: This necklace makes me think of a stylist I met at J. Crew. This lady is one spiffy dresser, rocking such creative/stylish looks and gray hair. When I saw this it made me think of her and how she would probably pair this piece over a button up shirt and polka dot sweater. It would be so glam!

4. Cascading Leaves Bib Necklace: All you need with this gold number is a black shirt and some boyfriend jeans. Saturday night out? Done.

5. Must-Have Lariat Necklace: “Must-Have” is in the title for a reason. This necklace can be worn all kinds of ways, all of which would make you look so sophisticated and cool (for less than $10).

PS: If you buy one and it doesn’t fit, add gold or silver safety pins in the back!
