Similar necklace; swacket; skirt; shoes; undershirt came from here (believe it or not).

My favorite purchase of this fall/winter has hands down been this sweater (or jacket…maybe swacket?).

I actually took it right off the back of an unsuspecting mannequin, and I’m so glad I did (she had it coming).  I love having one cool go-to piece that I can grab and consistently feel good in throughout the colder months. It’s especially nice when I’m stuck trying to figure out what to wear – I just grab this and style it differently.

This time I changed things up by buttoning it up. It works especially well with this voluminous skirt and really helps showcase this gorgeous statement necklace my Aunt Kathleen got me for my birthday this past year.

Think about any swackets you’ve got, could you get more mileage out of them by wearing them buttoned?

Maybe now that you’ve learned the word “swacket” you’re confused as to what the proper pronunciation would be, AND need help styling it differently. Well I’ve got good news!

I’m teaming up with The Limited in West Town Mall for a style event on Saturday, February 28th. So from 12-2:30pm I’ll be in the store answering questions, offering advice and helping you look and feel your best!

Come see all the great items they have to offer and bring in a sweater or jacket that you’ve had a hard time styling – we’ll even work on how to say “swacket” while you’re there. None of the cool kids are saying it! ;)

Add a Little Sparkle

Do not spend one minute of your December stressing over what to wear to a Christmas event.

And yes I typed that sentence out for me just as much as you. There’s enough going on this time of year, there’s no reason we should add more stress to our lives. Especially when all we have to do is add a great necklace!

When it comes to putting together a gorgeous/festive outfit, one of the easiest (and cheapest) routes to go is buying a statement necklace.

Not only will it jazz up what you’ve already got in your closet (saving you some money), but it will also add just enough sparkle and will totally last you past the Christmas holidays (sometimes those sparkly sweaters get neglected once January rolls around).

Here are four necklaces from The Limited (at West Town Mall) that will add some major bling to your basics…

diamonds, necklaces, gems, statement necklace, what to wear to a christmas party, christmas party outfit, the limited, necklaces, diamonds, gems, long stranded necklaces

Have an all black ensemble planned? Then add these red gems for a strong dose of Christmas without being overdone.

The double strands of diamonds would add a gorgeous sparkle to a rose pink sweater or they would dress up a crisp white button up with a blazer and jeans. Or put them all together and wear the necklace over the top of them both!

This tiered gem necklace (in the middle) is a beautifully structured piece. Give it center stage by pairing it with an open neckline. Or give it a cozy back drop and pair it with a slim gray sweater – one that you would have never thought would work at a Christmas party, now totally can!

Allow me to make the word “convertible” even more appealing…this last piece is a convertible mixed media necklace. Which means the longer strands you see can be unattached and worn alone. In fact you can pair the necklace down again and remove some pearls there in the middle. OR you can keep the party going strong and wear it all together with a long waterfall sweater and a metallic tank if you want to go the real YOW-ZAAAA route.

*Note: In an effort to save my sanity and clear off some space on my plate, I’ll be taking Wednesdays off from the blog for the next couple of weeks. Good news is this will allow you to enjoy Tuesday’s post even longer, and get you hungrier for Thursday’s freshness.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’re having a very Merry Christmas season!

These Necklaces Are Appropriate for Your Age

I went with that title, because I didn’t want you to sigh, run, scream or cry when you read these necklaces all came from Forever21.

Whether you get overwhelmed, frustrated, feeling too old, too young or just start to salivate when you walk in there, they’ve got good deals on jewelry so it’s worth the trip.

I’ve picked out five statement necklaces that can really jazz up a simple outfit (at any age) and they’re all under $15 (yeah you read that right).

statement necklaces

1. Clustered Marsquis Bib Necklace: This is such a pretty and simple piece that would add such a huge dose of lovely to a simple tank and cardigan.

2. Bold Color Blocked Beaded Necklace: If you have trouble adding color to your wardrobe, try doing so with a bold necklace like this one. Throw it on with gray, black, white, or if you’re feeling adventurous – red!

3. Faux Gem Collar Necklace: This necklace makes me think of a stylist I met at J. Crew. This lady is one spiffy dresser, rocking such creative/stylish looks and gray hair. When I saw this it made me think of her and how she would probably pair this piece over a button up shirt and polka dot sweater. It would be so glam!

4. Cascading Leaves Bib Necklace: All you need with this gold number is a black shirt and some boyfriend jeans. Saturday night out? Done.

5. Must-Have Lariat Necklace: “Must-Have” is in the title for a reason. This necklace can be worn all kinds of ways, all of which would make you look so sophisticated and cool (for less than $10).

PS: If you buy one and it doesn’t fit, add gold or silver safety pins in the back!

Striped Dress Refresh

We are all susceptible to falling into an accessories rut. It happens.

The important thing is to know the signs that you’re in one. If you reach for the same exact necklace every time you put on a certain top, you’re in a jewelry rut.

If you look through your jewelry collection and see multiple necklaces that look alike, you’re in an accessories rut.

Let’s work together to break out of that rut.

Step one?

Follow my lead and try a new necklace with that dress that always gets worn with the other one.
When I first wore this magical number from White House Black Market, I wore it with this turquoise necklace.

But to freshen things up a bit, I decided to wear it this time with a light pink statement necklace mixed with diamonds (oh, they’re all real). What drew me to this one was the shape. I love how the jagged outline gives the light pink color and diamonds combination an edgier feel.

I’m all about that edgier feel.

This dress has such a great neck space for a statement necklace like this. That’s why it’s fun to make it look different with a new one each time (you hear that, honey? More jewelry!)

I dare you, no, I double dog dare you to try a new necklace with an old outfit next time. You’ll feel so fresh!

How to Rock a Metallic Skirt at Work

St. Patrick’s day really snuck up on me.

How to were a metallic skirt to work

I thought I had plenty of time to wrap all the gifts and prepare the big St. Patty’s day meal, but I guess I got swept up in the season.

Just kidding. I simply forgot to blog about it on Monday so I wanted to share how it is I incorporated green into, what’s turned out to be, one of my favorite outfit concoctions of the year so far.

My favorite look of the spring/winter transition

It all started with this metallic skirt (similar one here). I picked this up on the clearance rack’s clearance rack at Forever21. I’m serious. This thing cost me less than $4. Which is a lesson to all of you out there who snub your nose at the sale stuff – sometimes you have to dig!

Not wanting the skirt to come off too dressy, I decided to pair it with a white t-shirt, my Banana Republic blazer (can I wear this everyday, pleeeease!?) and this green statement necklace.

The necklace was a perfect pop of color. and added interest to the t-shirt neckline like a long swingy necklace wouldn’t have done.

Why not twirl in a twirly skirt?!

I actually wore this outfit on the show when I talked about the Academy Awards accessories, and I liked it so much I reheated it for work this past Monday when I had to speak in front of the whole company.

When I planned it, I didn’t even realize Monday was St. Patrick’s day, but it worked out great with this green in the necklace. So a belated happy St. Patrick’s day to you!
