Two Faced Nails

I’ve got three new nail techniques in my queue waiting to be used at just the right time.

One I thought would be appropriate to bust out for our trip to LA. I think in my head somewhere it was for that exact moment that I would run into one of my blog heroes, Emily or Lauren, at which point they would beg me to sit down and tell them how exactly I look so fabulous.

Well, that didn’t happen. But my nails looked good for Johnny Depp (which is a whole other story ;)

Once you build up your nail polish collection (mine can’t stay on it’s shelf any more, I’ve got to do some cleaning out!) it’s hard sometimes to pick what color you want. Well, if you can narrow it down to two that look good together then you can have the best of both worlds.

As you can see it’s sort of like a reverse french manicure. What you do is you pick your bottom color and paint your nails with two coats of it (I did one, my patience being non exsistent, and later I realized I needed two). You let that dry VERY WELL. If you don’t (again my flaw was mainly lack of patience) the little stickers you use to mark it off will peel off some of the paint.

Speaking of the little stickers, what you’ll need are those little whole protectors for sheets of notebook paper (they look like this). I got mine at Staples for a little over $2.

Ok, after you let the bottom layer dry, place those stickers where you want the next color to be. You don’t want it too high up the nail so be careful. I wanted to follow kind of what your natural moon on your nail looks like just to be less wacky looking.

After you place them there, paint over them with your top color. Do two coats of this and let it dry very well, because again you don’t want to peel off paint with the sticker.

And take a lesson from me-DO paint top coat over it. Let’s just go ahead and say any time you spend more than your average time on your nails, paint over it with top coat. It just seals in all your hard work. I had to go over mine with Essie mattifier because I didn’t wait for them to dry before I went to bed and woke up with sheet prints. And the mattifier looked good! But I wish I would have also gone with top coat.

It’s a fresh new take on nails and I really loved it all week long so I will definitely do it again.
