Take your Outfit for a Run

Lucky magazine just put out their 10th anniversary edition, and one of the features I found absolutely relatable was where they pick out things over the past ten years that they wrote about and thought were amazing but are now looking back on as utterly ridiculous.

That’s part of my fascination with clothes, usually what you can’t live without this year will be what you mock others for wearing the next.

I remember being 16 and drooling over a pair of very clunky, metallic blue wedges that had roses embroidered across the straps. It was a matter of great importance that my wardrobe housed those chunkers because they were, “THE cutest things I had ever seen.” Now, I wouldn’t walk around my house in them let alone the public world.

Its fun to look back on outfits or things like that and remember what was so important to us, and it’s even funnier to think that someday what we love now will sound outrageous… “Skinny jeans, what was I thinking!?”

Will I ever think that? I hope not.

We can’t avoid the passage of time in the fashion world, but we can avoid waking up tomorrow and already regretting what we wore today. A good way to do that is find a reliable friend and run your outfit by them.

It’s definitely a good idea to do it for big occasions, but what would be even better is to pick a night to have them over (no more than 2 reliable friends, because the voices can start to confuse you) feed them dinner and try on your clothes to make sure everything you have is not something you’ll want to burn the picture of later.
