Every once in a while, a great t-shirt shows up in your life.

It fits all your requirements of both simplicity and comfort, while still displaying that little “something” making it, and ultimately you, feel unique.

This is that tee.

Thanks to Gray Monroe, I’ve got the perfect outfit for almost anything. And I can pair this shirt with any of my jeans (dark, light, skinny, wide leg). And I can showcase a number of my gray, tan, or taupe colored booties.

This clutch? Oh, it’s just my dream clutch. It’s big and it’s patterned with neutrals in an animial-esque print. What more could I want from a clutch (…well maybe that it would charge my phone because that is pretty cool). Otherwise…clutch of my dreams and all that.

Let’s talk about Gray Monroe for a minute (the store is named after the owners two kids #sweet). First, they’re running an extra 50% discount on all their sale items this weekend.

One of my favorite features? They always have free shipping. That is an invaluable bonus when shopping online.

Everything runs true to size. Although I still ordered a mix depending on what kind of top it was. I believe this one I’m wearing is a small because I didn’t want it to fully cover my butt (cause baby got BACK – can I get a WHAT WHAT).

It’s a great boutique that carries very versatile tops and a lot of stuff I don’t see everywhere. There are as many boutiques out there as there are fashion bloggers to write about them. So when you find one that you jive with, you stick to them and read them every day. I mean… shop there all the time. Silly me.

Click this link to get your own great stuff from Gray Monroe because you sure can’t borrow any of mine!

Let’s just address the elephant in the room – that is a crazy sunburn on my leg. STOP STARRING.

It appeared while we were on vacation in spite of the fact that I had religiously applied sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and every 2 hours after that. Oh well.

So this skirt, right!?

I bought it on Amazon to wear on Mother’s Day and it’s perfect. I love the A-line shape, I extra love the flower and stripe mix – I could wear that all day everyday. Styling it was a little bit difficult because there’s so much going on, but here’s how I did it…

Tucking the shirt in seemed to create too harsh of a line at my waist and leaving it out would make it way too sloppy. The knot was the perfect way to go (keeping the knot was a little bit difficult, surprisingly). What would have helped were those clear tiny elastics, but I couldn’t find any.

Because there’s so much going on with the skirt, a solid shirt is totally called for. This skirt also works with a black shirt – a combination perfect for a night summer wedding. I would say that I tried to pair a pink shirt with it, but I couldn’t find a pink that exactly matched the flowers and that bothered me. I’m not a matchy matchy person, but I think two different pinks competing like that diminishes the appeal of the print.

A big bold skirt is fun to have in your closet to play around with different looks!

Chic Alternatives to Shorts

shorts, west town mall, knoxville fashion blogger, summer style, knoxville blogger, banana republic in west town mall, gap in west town mall, charlotte russe

If you are a fan of shorts and olives, this blog post isn’t for you.

The two go hand-in-hand in my brain because there aren’t many things in either the fashion or culinary world that I hate, but those two top the list.

In fact eating olives while wearing shorts would probably be my personal hell (especially if I paid full price for the shorts…stop. Just stop).

I’m not very hot natured. I was pregnant throughout summer and was never really uncomfortably hot (if that doesn’t prove it to you, I don’t know what will). But this past weekend I got really hot and didn’t feel like reaching for any of my jeans. Which made me realize I’m going to need some good alternatives to shorts for the summer.

Especially if I’m going to be chasing down a one-year-old – I don’t know where the one-year-old will come from, as my child is still a baby baby. But I’ll go along with everyone else and pretend like he’s growing up ;)

Here are some chic and most importantly, cooler options to wearing short shorts, all found at West Town Mall!

JCP: Wide Leg Pants

The goal with shorts is to keep you cool, wide leg pants in a light material can keep you cool and are arguably more comfortable when sitting down.

These striped wide leg pants from JCP are a great alternative in that they’ve got all the neutral colors so they’ll go with so much!

Banana Republic: Shorts that aren’t.

These are so long, they aren’t even worthy of the name, “shorts” and won’t give you all the bad parts of shorts.

For example, they’ll give you good coverage, they won’t make your legs pooch out when you sit down, they won’t leave you stuck to a plastic chair and they won’t ride up into your crotch when you walk!

Plus the window pane pattern immediately elevates them so that you could wear them with heels or wedges if you’d like.

Charlotte Russe: Stretchy Skirt

If the pencil skirt is long and stretchy enough, it could be my favorite thing to wear in the summer. Sure it made my thighs rub together when I was pregnant, but it kept me cool.

Plus, this style of skirt could go a lot farther than you think. You could wear it with fancy nude gladiators, white sneakers and a cute t-shirt or wedges and a flowy top.

GAP: Girfriend Chino’s

These Girlfriend Chino’s are something I’ll be reaching for all summer long. The “girlfriend” means they’re wider in the hips and slimmer through the leg. They’re light but give you coverage.

I wore these over the weekend and was perfectly comfortable outside the whole time.

Not pictured but something I’m still trying to track down, is a banded maxi skirt. Not the kind of maxi skirt with the loose waist that makes you feel as if you’re going to step on it and WHA-LA your underwear. The kind I want has a definite waist-band you can tuck into. Giving your more options than a maxi dress, but still all the comfort.

Of all the pieces in my closet, this green dress elicits the most compliments. When I wear it, strangers go out of their way to tell me how much they like it.

My husband, on the other hand, can’t stand it.

I bought it 9 years ago to wear to my bridal shower and have worn it every year since then. I think it’s safe to say I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

My favorite thing about this dress is the top is hemmed with a belt. That detail is what instantly drew me to it. And while I hate that it gets covered up by the leather jacket, I also love a great billowy dress with a form-fitting leather jacket.

And really you can recreate this look with so many different short jacket/billowy maxi dress combinations. It’s so seasonally perfect for cooler spring days, yet totally maintenance free since you don’t have to shave your legs ! :-D

In my case it’s best suited for a girls night out and definitely not date night or I’d never hear the end of it *rolls eyes.

Here’s a close rendition to the dress but in blue* | Here’s a version of the jacket

*Remember, I said I bought it NINE years ago. Which doesn’t seem real because both myself and the dress still look fantastic ;) I got it at VictoriaSecret when they used to see fancy dresses online.

I wasn’t lying last week when I said I wear these earrings often.

Derby Hats

dillards, derby hats, kentucky derby hats, sun hats, knoxville fashion blogger

Want to look amazing and not have to do your hair? Then throw on one of these beauties.

All of these hats can be found at Dillard’s in West Town Mall, and would make the perfect addition to your outfit for a Kentucky Derby Party this weekend.

Wear any of them with a sun dress, or dressy shorts, wedges and a flowy top and party goers will walk away remembering how great you looked and not necessarily who won the race.
