A Great Way to Add Excitement to Your Closet

the limited, how to update your closet, how to prepare your closet for fall, what to wear now and later, wear now and later, knoxville fashion blog, knoxville fashion, west town mall, west town mall fashion consultant, beauty blogger, elizabeth ogle, knoxville fashion

Half of my closet is on the floor.

During Jackson’s party over the weekend, apparently the excitement was too much for my closet rack to bear and it fell off the wall.

Sure it’s annoying to have to dig through a pile to get to anything I want to wear, but on the positive side I’m catching glimpses of some of my favorite sweaters. WHICH MAKES ME WANT FALL NOW.

As I started thinking/dreaming/drooling over cooler days, football and leaves I started thinking about what I would need to make my fall wardrobe work best (of course).

I’m very good at getting sweaters and jackets, but not so great at finding things to wear underneath them. But if I start working on that now, I’ll have great patterned pieces to wear through the close of summer, I’ll get them on sale, and I’ll have them to layer under a sweater later.

That’s a win, win, win, win situation (the forth win being for the fact that IT WILL SOON BE FALL).

The Limited is the first place that comes to mind when I think of great patterned pieces. They’ve got such good quality clothes, and patterned tops that can be easily dressed up or down.

Any of these colorful tops would add excitement to your basic pants, jeans and sweaters…though not to the level where they all jump off the wall like mine did*

The Limited has a great new look as of today, so be sure to stop by their store in West Town Mall.

*No promises.

Mid-Summer Shopping List

the limited, fiore boutique, west town mall, knoxville, funny fashion blogger, ann taylor, gap, charlotte russe, black wedges, gold watch, charming charlie, francesca's, dillard's, bathing suit cover up, piko dress, the limited, pottery barn, summer style, knoxville fashion, knoxville fashion blogger, top knoxville fashion blogger, east tennessee style, west town mall style consultant

Someone asked me the other day what my favorite part of summer is. I responded…counting down to fall.

So maybe I don’t enjoy the extreme heat, bugs and humidity like some do (I painted such a beautiful picture, didn’t I ;) I do enjoy the easy style offerings that come with lazy nights outside, wiping off the watermelon from my chin and feeling weightless as I float in the pool.

Let’s squeeze out all the fun wearing any (or all!) of these picks, which can be found in the beautifully air-conditioned West Town Mall!

1. My love affair with gold could be fleeting, so I’ll pick up this wallet-friendly, yet still glamorous gold watch from Charming Charlie.

2. GAP workout clothes are fan…tastic – all the wicking and support and cuteness without all the cash dropping.

3. I love everything about this dress (and I’m pretty sure it has pockets!), find it at The Limited.

4. I need more pattern in my closet, but until I find something as beautiful as stripes or leopard print, I’ll go with a great textured top from Ann Taylor.

5. A beautiful cover up for your bum and you don’t even have to tie it! Just slip it on and walk the beachy cat walk :)

6. Wearing my hair up without studs in my ear is breaking a fashion commandment. And the color of these beauties from Francesca’s will go with everything.

7. Ever since we moved into our house, I’ve been buying pillows like they are jugs of milk. Pottery Barn and their fantastic sale is feeding my addiction.

8. Simple black wedges are so important to rounding out your summer looks! Thank you, Charlotte Russe!

9. I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE (Dillard’s).

10. After I had Jackson, I passed a pregnant girl wearing jeans like these and I slapped myself in the forehead. They are the perfect during-and-post pregnancy jeans because they have the elastic waist!

11. What’s better than a Piko top from Fiore in the summer? A sleeveless Piko dress from Fiore! (or tunic because really, these things are short for those of us with long legs).

Plaid Got a Makeover

plaid, tommy hilfiger, banana republic, the limited, express, forever21, plaid 2015, fashion blogger, knoxville fashion blogger

My son has pooped in a JCPenney three times now. I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t like the place, or because he’s so relaxed.
Yesterday while the lady in the checkout line was oohing and aahing over him, he’s lying in the stroller straining. 

I’m just glad he got it all out because I was in a rush to put together an outfit. It was during that rush that I became thankful for two things…
One: I’m thankful he’s a good shopper and able to sleep while mommy drives his stroller like a bumper car (I’m still getting used to it).
Two: I’m thankful for plaid.

Sure the right kind of animal print makes me salivate and of course stripes are always a safe bet, but I was craving something new. Something fall-like but without the country feel (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

I needed a great pattern and I was pleasantly surprised to find that plaid has been given a makeover. Everywhere I turned there was an updated version of what can sometimes be a homely pattern. Whether it was incorporating new colors like the purple pictured above from Tommy Hilfiger or the orange and gray from Banana Republic, or by going bolder and wider with the stripes like Express has done, or maybe it was how The Limited printed it on a softer, flowy fabric – all of those upgrades made the pattern more appealing to a city gal like myself.

I tried with all my might to not title this post, “Mad for Plaid” but I have to say, the 21st century versions of this classic pattern and all the pattern mixing possibilities it brings with it, makes it hard not to go a little mad for a lot of plaid. ;)

Pick up any of these great options at West Town Mall!

Your Complete Guide to Tights

Superman, Batman, Robin – all of them prove a lot can be accomplished while wearing tights, and that it can all be done looking good.

Now that the season for tights has arrived, my outfit possibilities have quadrupled. They are one of the things I look forward to wearing the most in the fall/winter. Not only because they unlock so many great skirts, but because they are so very comfortable and slimming. And since someone once looked at my calves and asked if I play soccer, leg slimming is just what I need (never played soccer in my life outside of 3rd grade phys ed).

Here are some things to keep in mind when buying, wearing and caring for your tights…

tights, what to wear with tights, how to wear tights, where to buy tights, opaque tights, sheer tights, fall fashion, knoxville fashion

Buying Tights

There are a lot of different kinds of tights out there. The two main words you need to pay attention to are “sheer” and “opaque” because they make a difference. Sheer is obviously going to let a little leg show through, while opaque means completely blackity black. Or navity navy…burgundity burgindy…and so on and so forth.

One of my favorite places to get them is The Limited. They have a great selection and they are really well made. You are going to pay a little more, but this means you won’t be running to Walgreen’s every weekend for a new pair. If you do happen to snag them on something, note where they’re snagged. If it’s below the knee you can keep them to wear with boots, if it’s higher up you can remember to wear them with certain skirt lengths. That way at least you wouldn’t have to get rid of them right away.

Wearing Tights

Opaque tights are going to let you get away with a bit of a shorter skirt. I hate the word “thigh” but because I love you, I’m going to use it to say – if your skirt is so short it’s showing where the tights weave pattern changes to the control part on your upper thigh *cringe* it’s TOO SHORT.

Sheer tights are best to pair with black boots. The sheerness will add a texture difference and will make it so the two blacks aren’t competing with each other.

Patterned tights are fun…if used in moderation. If your calves have never been confused with the muscles of a soccer player, feel free to wear patterned tights till the cows come home listening to the fat lady sing. I limit myself to wearing very discreet patterns, or minimizing their visual effect by pairing them with boots/booties.

Washing Tights

For the most part, tights can be washed in the gentle cycle then hung up to dry. As I write this, I’m realizing that the tights I washed with all the colored clothes were accidentally put in the dryer. Now I’m nervous to go open the dryer. Avoid that mistake and wash them separately. Do remember to wash them, though. For the love of all things, wash them.

The One Pattern You Need for Fall

the limited, leopard, what to wear with leopard, fall fashion, leopard is a neutral, west town mall, knoxville fashion blogger, west town mall fashion blogger, elizabeth ogle, the spiff, leopard clutch, leopard belt, leopard bracelet, leopard pants, leopard scarf, leopard sweater

Looking at the right kind of leopard pattern sets off fireworks in my brain.

You know what I mean by the “right kind”? There’s a rich looking leopard and then there’s the craft store leopard – it’s usually a teeny tiny pattern and really cheap looking.

The Limited – now they’ve stocked up on the right kind of leopard. Theirs is made up of richly toned browns, black and beige’s, all of which come together to form the only pattern in the world that could be considered a neutral.

If you don’t believe me, buy that skinny leopard bracelet and see just how many outfits it will go with. I own it, so I already know the answer is ONE THOUSAND! It’s cool too because it’s got a fur-like texture which makes the bracelet even more visually appealing.

That skinny leopard belt will help accent your tiny waist with a basic black A-line dress, or bring a little danger to a blue striped button down and jeans. The pants will jazz up all those black, white, cream, pink, red, or royal blue tops you have.

The leopard clutch, well, I mean…come on. It instantaneously dials up the glamour quotient.

And that leopard sweater can go from a white t-shirt/black skirt/tights/boots combo to white t-shirt/skinnies/booties and then back to brown slacks/white button down and gold heels all within milliseconds. Just think of the range that thing has!

If you can’t already tell, leopard can go for miles in your closet and The Limited has it in some really beautiful options (on sale, even!). Get in to The Limited in West Town Mall to see just how right I am!
