White Hot Pants That Won’t Show Your Business

We all know the problem with white pants – they can get a little too “show and tell” *ifyaknowhatimean.

We want to look cool and crisp in their clean bright effortlessness, but we certainly don’t want our backside and Hello Kitty underwear on full display.

Thankfully, it’s possible to have great white pants without having to leave a room walking backwards. I’ve gathered four options from stores in West Town Mall to show you the different cuts and brands that give you comfortable coverage without cutting out the cute.

new york and company, the limited, ann taylor, white pants, how to wear white pants, the limited, fashion, summer fashion, knoxville fashion

Ann Taylor: These are actually eyelet pants, so they’ve got a great texture to them which will help mask any imperfections and panty lines. I also really like their relaxed look!

The Limited: For a more jean-like feel, go for these. With a skinnier silhouette they’ll play perfectly against billowy tops (or kimonos!).

New York & Co.: A long white pant is probably my favorite, and I can personally vouch for the greatness of New York & Company’s white pants. These would work in both the office and after hours with their slack-like shape. The material is heavy enough to give you coverage, but light enough to keep you cool.

White House Black Market: These are wrinkle resistant! AH! That’s so nice. And they’re the perfect length for showing off your cute summer shoes and pedicure!

If you’ve got your eye on a pair of white pants that aren’t in this list, I strongly advise you to read reviews. You’ll be able to learn a lot about the pants and whether or not to buy your size or not. Especially if you’re buying online, knowing if they run true to size really helps, and most of the time people leave that in the reviews.

Treat Yo’ Self Thursday

patterned pumps, leopard heels, floral patterned heels, shoes, spring shoes, colorful shoes, colorful heels

In my house, the word “treat” always has to be spelled out as my little pupster can pick up on it from four rooms away. I have to admit, it is a fun word. In fact I’m a big fan of the phrase “treat yourself” because it can justify so many fun things (all within legal limits of course).

High on my list of things I’m going to “treat myself to” when I find it, is a pair of patterned pumps. I’m on the hunt for black and white ones especially, but as I searched to see what the stores in West Town Mall had to offer, I found a whole slew of pretty patterned options.

If you took one look at that graphic up there and already decided these weren’t for you, remember that you can wear them with long pants and in doing do, would have the funnest peak of pattern sticking out. If you have a closet full of classic pieces then a pair of pumps like these would really perk up your style. Read on sista!

1. Ahh if only these were available in more than just size 7 and 7 1/2. They must have been pretty popular at Ann Taylor, and for good reason! Look how gorgeous they are, and think of all the outfits they’d add some major glam too! I’d wear them with skinny jeans, tights, pajamas…the list is endless, really.

2. If you’re going to go for a colored patterned, why not go all out with these Steve Madden Varcityy Pumps at Belk. If all those colors overwhelm you, think of all the outfits this would match. Not only could you pull out one or two colors, but you could also pair this with neutrals…or *gasp, pattern mix with a simple striped skirt!!

3. These Calvin Klein Dolly Leopard Pointed-Toe Pumps from Dillard’s are showcasing such a beautiful leopard pattern. I love that it’s bigger and so rich looking. Of course I’ll always love a great animal print, and on a lower heel like this that would probably be bearable for a full day – gosh that’s going for the win. (Should I mention again that leopard goes with everything? No, you’re tired of hearing that? Ok.)

4. Let’s not forget the great selection (and current sale) awaiting us at Rack Room Shoes. And for a more subdued floral print shoe look no further than these Xappeal pumps. The underlying color is black, which means these puppies will again (notice a pattern here) go with everything. Especially if you have a solid color dress, oh girl, these shoes would really elevate your look.

5. For the most cautious and quietest among us, there are these (aptly named) Hush Puppies from JCP. With a muted pastel print and a much lower heel, these could really give you a great pattern option, without going too crazy.

It’s truly amazing how far a pair of heels like these will go. Get on over to West Town Mall and jazz up your shoe collection for the winter and coming spring!!

How to Look Awesome at a Christmas Party

ann taylor, christmas parties, what to wear to an office christmas party, sparkly sweaters

Forget bright copper kettles, sequence is one of my favorite things.

Which is why I love getting dressed for holiday parties. It’s practically mandatory that you incorporate some kind of sparkle or shine! Ok, not “mandatory” but it’s certainly acceptable (ha, “mandatory sparkle”).

I understand that not everyone gets that thrilled feeling in their gut when it’s time to put together a party outfit, which is why I’m here! Let me help you. And if you’re reading this, that’s step one. Good job.

Step two? Balance. As is true with any outfit, balance is key. So if you’re doing a full on sequence top, balance it out with tweed pants. If you want to do sequence pants (they’re all the rage) pair them with a simple button down and a cozy sweater (my advice for that is to not wear those pants to a party where you’ll be sitting down a majority of the time – you want people to see you sparkle!)

Step three…Break out of your box a little bit and have fun! The time to take yourself too seriously is not when you’re going to an event that will feature a game called, “White Elephant.” Find something with a bit more pizzazz than you usually wear and rock the heck out of it! A Christmas party is the perfect place to do that! And if you spend a little bit more money on something sparkly, then wear it again New Year’s Eve.

Step four: Get yourself down to Ann Taylor in West Town Mall tonight so I can help you inspire/create/edit your holiday look! Remember that time I said I love getting dressed for Christmas parties? I’ll take some of that love and rub it off on you, if you’ll come on over tonight and hang with me. Anytime from 6-8pm I’ll be there completely ready to answer your questions and help guide you to your best Christmas party look yet!

Listen it’s possible to look gorgeous, age appropriate, office appropriate and Christmas-y all at the same time! Ann Taylor has an amazingly beautiful selection of clothes and jewelry that will really jazz up your look. And did I mention there will be a special discount tonight? I didn’t. Hey, THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL DISCOUNT. So you basically get a personal stylist, save some money, and will snatch the breath of everyone who looks at you as you walk in the door to your office Christmas party. THAT sounds like a Merry little Christmas.

Layer Like a Boss

layering, how to layer, polka dots, blazer, gray sweater, how to layer

layering, how to layer, polka dots, blazer, gray sweater, how to layer

Well Merry Christmas!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and ate so much your pants are a little bit tighter today ;)

Now lets hide that food belly with some layers, shall we?

The biggest key to getting layering right is to go with lighter fabrics. The polka dot shirt is thin (it’s not made out of cotton it’s more like a polyester) and the gray cardigan is thin as well. You certainly aren’t looking to add bulk to your frame, we’re just looking to use your clothes in a more interesting way.

If you’ll notice, once I took the blazer off I added a belt because I helps define my waist. It’s not needed under the blazer because the blazer helps add definition.

You don’t need a ton of jewelry with this because you have so much going on visually already. I just added little earrings.

Think about layering when you’re making the Christmas list! Here’s where I got the cardigan, here’s a version of the button up (I got mine from Target), and here’s a great blazer.

Now let’s talk about tomorrow night!!

Tuesday night at Ann Taylor in West Town Mall from 6-8pm I’m going to be helping you put together the perfect Christmas party outfit! They’ll be a special discount that night and just good clean fun since I’ll be around ;) Seriously though, come out and get inspired, get some cute accessories, get a sparkly top and get to your Christmas parties looking amazing!! See you then!

Swingy vs. Statement Necklaces

how to accessorize

Styling can be the hardest part of getting dressed, but it can also make or break your outfit. So no pressure, but get it right every time. Ok?

No, that’s a joke. You need to get it right 90% of the time.*

*Also a joke.

I want to help you get in the swing of knowing what necklace to wear, so take a gander at these two looks from Ann Taylor in West Town Mall (this picture was taken at the Fall Indulge event in West Town Mall).

On the right, we have a great LBD with lace detailing. In this instance the statement necklace is best because she’s got a solid stripe there at the top, providing the perfect backdrop to showcase one of Ann’s gorgeous accessories.

If the top strip had been the lace portion, that would have been enough going on visually so earrings would have been best.

The look on the right calls for a long necklace, because she has all of that great real-estate right down the center of her body. The coat (or sometimes sweater) draws the eye in towards the center, making it the perfect spot for something long and swingy.

If you’re in need of more accessory know-how, click here for my last post and stay tuned because there will be more. Oh, there will be plenty more.
