How May I Help You?

People who love meeting new people fascinate me.  I had a friend like that once, he thrived on meeting new people (I guess I could do without “new” in that sentence cause how could you meet an old friend?).

I am not at all thrilled by the start of a new relationship.  I feel like I have to over clarify that I’m joking when I do (which my husband would probably say I should do more often and/or work on better jokes), and you don’t know what their sense of humor is, or whether you’ll be able to relate to them or not.  The whole awkward period of getting to know someone is work that I’m quite comfortable to do without.

Which explains much of why I don’t like to use sales people.  When I walk in a store I want to blend in and not receive any help. I can do it myself, and I’d rather no pressure from the paid staff.

Do not follow my lead when it comes to this and jean shopping.  You should tap into the knowledge of the sales associates especially when you are looking for jeans.

Their knowledge of the clothes they sell will probably save you a lot of time and effort trying to figure out where to start.  At GAP, for example, I heard one of the employees telling a customer about the magical powers of their curvy fit jeans and how-sister of the traveling pants-style they make a curvy butt look exactly how the person wants it to look.

They may even let you in on a sale or explain the one that’s going on (“No, it’s buy 4 get 1/2 off the 1st pair, and $5 off the third if you spend over $50 in bonus bucks”).  Sometimes they even know how long the sale will last, so if you find something that day but don’t want to buy just yet the sales person can give you your deadline.

It does pay to consult them so you should. Meanwhile I’ll be in the back trying to figure things out on my own :)
