Closet Commentary

Welcome to the first ever Spiff commentary. I have taken an old post, and commented about it in red.
All week long I’m taking the closet organizing Spiff from last year and putting it to work in my own clothes haven. I’m going to follow my own advice, and watch my own attitude towards myself.
We’ll see how this goes…

6-the number of months you need to let go by before your next closet clean.

Every 6 months make it a habit of trying on everything you own with a trusted/honest friend nearby that understands your style (I clarify that because there’s a difference between knowing what’s cute, and knowing what cute inside your ascetic). Let’s get real. The only reason I clean out my closet is because the same shirt keeps resurfacing in the clothes tide that comes in when I throw too many on the top shelf. Every six months my eye.

This will keep your outfits fresh, and your options fresh.  When your next frantic run to the closet on the Monday morning when you desperately need to be looking cute happens, you’ll know exactly what to go for because within the last 6 months you will have tried everything on! Phew that was a long sentence. My last frantic run to the closet was actually Monday.

Also, make sure you have a second opinion mirror wise.  It’s always good to have another full length mirror in your house to get two things: 1. different lighting, and 2. a different mirror angle. This is so true. I have a dress that I’m unsure of when I see it in my bedroom mirror but everytime-without fail, I’ll wear it out, see my reflection and fall in love with it all over again.

Every 6 months make a date with your friend and two mirrors, and you’re well on your way to a workable closet!
Ok, so if you can’t get to it every 6 months at least get to it whenever things start to fall apart. It does make you feel a lot better. Right now, I get very frustrated when I see my closet so hopefully tomorrow’s spiff will address that!
