You’re Going to Want More Booties

shoes for fall

First up on my shoe wish list this season? These puppies. I fell in love with black Madden Girl wedges like these two years ago, and now I think it’s time to get another pair in a different color.

These are to your fall wardrobe what gladiator sandals are to summer outfits – striking the perfect balance of casual and dressy.

Wedges like this are great because they give you a little bit of height, which will come in handy under long wide legged jeans and can sometimes be a bit more comfortable than complete flats. Something else I love about these is they can be worn with socks.

I made the move from Florida to Tennessee 10 years ago this year and it’s starting to show. When I first moved here, I craved the feeling of flip flops between my toes. Ten years later, I’m tracking down shoes that will allow me to stay in socks for as long as possible. Funny how that goes.

These can be found at Target, by the way. And after reading the reviews it looks like they run true to size and are pretty comfortable after a long day. Some reviewers thought the back of the shoe was going to rub their leg but it seems that wasn’t a problem.

Besides getting to wear socks with these, the other thing I like about them is they’ve got a rubber sole. When I’m trying to convey a casual look, I really can’t stand it when my shoes are clicking on the ground. To me that is the sound of being dressed up – it’s the sound of high heels. And when I’m looking to be casual and cute, I don’t want everyone listening as I click my way around. It’s a quirky thing, I know.

Pair these with some cuffed boyfriend jeans and a sweatshirt and earrings! Just don’t buy up all the size 10’s. I’m serious.

Get Your Shoes Fitting Right With This Trick

A great pair of patterned flats are really some of the most fun pair of shoes you can own.

I don’t wear a lot of pattern, so having shoes in a fun pattern really livens up my wardrobe.

I found these at Marshall’s years ago, and was so excited because I’m such a huge fan of snakeskin, and they were Guess brand, AND they were a bargain.

Jealous of my balancing skills? You should be.

It wasn’t until I wore them for the first time that my little shoe fantasy bubble was popped. They were terribly uncomfortable. Terribly. Uncomfortable.

They pinched and poked and perturbed my feet to the point where I’d stop reaching for them. Finally, one day I had forgotten how much of a pain they were and I wore them out. I noticed that it wasn’t so bad that time around. So I wore them very soon after and another time very soon after that.

Finally I realized they had stretched out! Now they form to my feet to the point where they’re rather comfortable.

I’m so glad I didn’t give up and let a perfectly beautiful pair of shoes go unworn! What pair have you given up on? Maybe try wearing them out a few more times. Or if you don’t think you can make it, try at least to wear them around the house, that way you can take breaks and go barefoot.

Something else I’ve heard may help? Ice. If you have shoes that are genuine leather (I don’t know if this will work if they’re not), fill up a sandwich bag with water and place it in the soles of the shoes. Then put the shoes in the freezer and as the bag of water freezes, it will expand and stretch the shoes out.

Try this a couple times if you have to, in order to get the shoes to fit right.

Listen, whether it’s a bargain pair, or a small investment, you really want to be able to wear what you love, so make sure you do that comfortably!

Casual {Flat} Shoe Options

A lot of times what drives me to write about certain subjects is the glaring need in my own closet. And right now the glaring need is casual shoes.

I’ve got my trusty Crocs (waterproof, comfortable, smell proof, and black), but sometimes a girl wants something with a little more pizazz.  A little more pattern.

That’s why I’ve researched and found 5 great shoe options to help you (and me) through this transitional time when flip flops aren’t what you need, and you’re still craving the comfort of boots.

Something like these cute sneakers (or are they?) in this wildly versatile floral pattern (think of the pattern as a neutral).

Click here to read my latest Style Setter blog!

See what these shoes are really called and discover 4 more adorable options.
Also, you’ll read about the shoe problem I had that drove me to finding these.

If that’s not reason enough to click on over, all of the shoes are under $50. There you go.

Don’t go looking for me at my regularly scheduled time on FOX43 tomorrow. Instead I’ll be on this Friday at 8:15am, showcasing some Kentucky Derby fashions. You don’t want to miss that!

The Shoes You Can Wear With Everything (and Everywhere)

Now that the weather is warm, our shoe options have exploded.

In the winter, pretty much every outfit called for boots. Tall boots, short boots. Slip your feet into some socks and the comfort of boots, and you’re all set.

Now that spring has set in, it’s more like…do I go with sandals? Flats? Heels?

Each outfit is different, but if you’re looking to buy a shoe for the warmer days that’s a little more “boot like” (aka: goes with everything and is comfortable), you need to opt for the wedge.

And not just any wedge. Lucky Brand wedges.

I bought a pair of these last summer, and my warm weather shoe world was changed forever.

They’re comfortable, just the right height and if you branch out and buy them in a fun pattern (like leopard) or a metallic color like these, they’ll go with more than you can ever imagine.

The upside of these wedges as compared to others, is they’re super light weight. So you’re not grabbing 5 pounds every time you move your foot. And the top fabric part is made of a wildly comfortable and giving fabric, so it never digs in your feet but gives you just the right amount of support as you walk.

Wedges themselves are like the off-road version of heels. You can walk through the grass with these, completely un-phased. Which in a season that’s bursting with outdoor weddings – it’s a good idea to own a pair.

I’ve started to see a lot of knock off versions of the Lucky Brand look starting to pop up, so if you go for something a little cheaper do test the fabric and see how giving it is when you take a step.

But I’m telling you, if buy them now or watch them like a hawk if they go on sale – you’ll be so happy you did.

Tune in tomorrow on FOX43 to see some beautiful Easter dress options (and how to accessorize them) from Dillard’s!

A Must-Have Heel for Fall

There’s absolutely no reason for me to use up any space trying to convince you that sale shopping is a good thing.

What I am going to try and convince you of, is buying a pair of patterned shoes. Like these heels I got at Belk’s mother of all shoe sales (not an official name, but it should be).

I’ve walked away with two really good deals on shoes now, so don’t think that once you’ve hit up a sale there are no good deals left-go back for more!

These were a harder decision as I really didn’t need them, and I had just purchased a pair of black pointy toe heels. But boy am I glad I got them.

Not only is the heel the perfect height (around three inches), but the pattern is both playful and versatile. All the little accent colors will add the perfect pop to many a classic outfit, while the shape of the toe will peak out perfectly from long jeans.

They’re even surprisingly comfortable! They’re Nine West which is nice because it’s a name I trust, and well they were under 20 bucks so even if I wore them once around the block they would be worth it!

Think about adding a pattern shoe to your collection this fall, you’ll be so glad you did!
