The Lean Mean Spring Clean Pt. 3&4

Just to review, on Monday we gave you three piles in which to separate the clothes in your closet that aren’t part of your regular rotation…
1. Giveaway
2. Throw away
3. Unsure

The final pile is the beast of this whole project because you’re going to do one thing with every article of clothing in there…
try. it.on.

The problem I found with a lot of pieces in my closet was that I had attached a bad stigma to the shirts I never wore, but by trying pieces on I could see that they weren’t so bad after all!

The key is to not just wear them with the pajama bottoms you’ve chosen to clean out your closet in either. Pair the things in that pile with your most recent pieces. Tuck an old shirt into a new skirt and see what you think!

There are all kinds of possibilities with those “unsure of” items, but trying them on is so important because it breaks them out of the box you’ve mentally placed around them. Maybe some of those shirts are more flattering then you’ve given the credit for!

Take your unsure pile, try every piece on (with new pieces!) if you find a new outfit combination-perfect! If you find things you still don’t want to get rid of but don’t have a use for yet, throw them in a box and pack them away until the next time you clean out your closet. Then take them out again (in 6 months, ideally) and if you’re still unsure then it’s probably time to move them to a new pile (as in throw away or giveaway).

You are going to want to hug me so tight after doing this..so tight. In fact, the best time to do this is when you’re wanting new clothes but don’t have the money. Because I promise you, it’s like going shopping with all the new pieces you’re going to find!

Happy cleaning!!
