Links You’ll Love

Want to hear a lesson I learned about buying part of your Christmas outfit online? Check the shipping policy. Do that so it doesn’t send you into a panicked frenzy of trying to replace it when you realize it’s not going to arrive on time. Just something that popped into my head just now as I sit here sipping tea by the fire. It wasn’t at all because I just came out of that panicked frenzy myself. Not at all.

Something that will help prevent all of that is shopping local. And yes, buying from stores that are local to your area is awesome, but I’m also talking about not shopping online for something like clothes that you need to cover your body at a certain event. Ha.

Lesson Learned.

Well, now that I’ve gone on that rant, let me tell you about a couple of links I like to shop from. Yeah…didn’t plan for this blog post to become an oxymoron but, hey, that’s the beauty of reading blogs – you never know what you’re going to get.

When you’re not in a rush to buy something, or you’re looking for a great gift, check these links out…

links keeplinks, 6pm, keep, where to shop, good places to shop online, online shopping

Keep.com

My inbox is full of stores/brands trying to get my attention. Honestly, I “keep” (I intended the heck out of that pun) this one in there because their subject lines are so hilarious. Proving that witty writing always wins.

Oh and to go along with their great sense of humor, they’ve got a great website full of things you wouldn’t bump into in your friendly neighborhood Target. Things like gorgeous clothes, lovely jewelry and romantic art that says, “You’ll do.” The whole website resides right up my alley.

Buy directly from them or “keep” an item to look back on later.

6pm.com

Sister to Zappos, 6pm is a great way to shop brand names at a discount. And the couple of times I’ve ordered from them it’s actually come in very quickly. Like next day quickly. So if ever I HAVE to buy something online that I need quickly, I go right to them.

But check on it for your area because I’m sure it’s different for everyone.

Layer Like a Boss

layering, how to layer, polka dots, blazer, gray sweater, how to layer

layering, how to layer, polka dots, blazer, gray sweater, how to layer

Well Merry Christmas!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and ate so much your pants are a little bit tighter today ;)

Now lets hide that food belly with some layers, shall we?

The biggest key to getting layering right is to go with lighter fabrics. The polka dot shirt is thin (it’s not made out of cotton it’s more like a polyester) and the gray cardigan is thin as well. You certainly aren’t looking to add bulk to your frame, we’re just looking to use your clothes in a more interesting way.

If you’ll notice, once I took the blazer off I added a belt because I helps define my waist. It’s not needed under the blazer because the blazer helps add definition.

You don’t need a ton of jewelry with this because you have so much going on visually already. I just added little earrings.

Think about layering when you’re making the Christmas list! Here’s where I got the cardigan, here’s a version of the button up (I got mine from Target), and here’s a great blazer.

Now let’s talk about tomorrow night!!

Tuesday night at Ann Taylor in West Town Mall from 6-8pm I’m going to be helping you put together the perfect Christmas party outfit! They’ll be a special discount that night and just good clean fun since I’ll be around ;) Seriously though, come out and get inspired, get some cute accessories, get a sparkly top and get to your Christmas parties looking amazing!! See you then!

Happy Cyber Monday!

The Eve of Giving Thanks

I’ve got snow outside my window and a Publix sub waiting on me, so it’s been a very good day so far.

Unfortunately with all the hustle and bustle, today’s blog has gotten away from me.
But here it is, I’d like for you to enjoy one of  my favorite posts from last year. It’s the post I wrote on last Thanksgiving Eve and it all still rings true.

Be sure to tune in (during your food coma) tomorrow and Friday for THREE more posts from my Style Setter blog – how to dress for Black Friday shopping, and two gift lists (one for girls and one for boys!).
Then catch The Spiff live on FOX43 Friday morning between 8:30 and 8:45 for some makeup gift ideas! So much to be thankful for!!!

Today, my friends, is the funnest day of the whooooole year.
Why, you ask?
Because we’re standing on the brink of the holiday season.

Right now, all the fun and family and hustling and bustling and glow lights and good eating is waiting to be plugged in and running!

Take a moment and enjoy it. Right now.
Aaahh.
Perfect.

Now you’re ready to gear up for the biggest shopping day of the whole year!!!!
Here are a few quick tips to keep you in a good mood while you grab all the deals…

1. Hydrate. Keep water in your car and refuel in between shop stops.

2. Keep a granola bar in your purse. Those long lines seem a lot shorter when you’re not crankin out the cranky because you’re hungry.

3. Wear comfortable shoes. Comfort over style people-don’t worry so much about looking cute, chances are the other shoppers are too sleepy to notice.

4. Keep the laughter going. The few times I’ve braved the Black Friday darkness, I’ve noticed that everyone has the same half awake, crazed look of desperation on their face. Keep the smile big and the light moments coming. If you don’t get what you set out to buy…Christmas will still come. Jesus will still be on the throne.
And remember there’s always Cyber Monday :)

Enjoy this day, the dawn of the holidays!

Today, I’m thankful for having a relationship with God. There’s no way I would try to make it through life without that. I’m so very thankful that He loves me and cares about the littlest things that I care about :) And He cares about you!!

5 Ways to Get the Perfect Easter Look

We have a very important weekend coming up.

It’s time to celebrate the fact that Jesus is alive! He didn’t stay in the grave, He rose so that we may have life and live it abundantly! Praise God for that!

It’s also a time to radiate His love in very pretty Easter dress. Or, in today’s case maybe an Easter outfit!

I can look back and tell you everything I’ve worn for Easter for…well I can go really far back with that. To give you an example I remember being a little girl and getting a flowery pink twirly dress (I had a thing for clothes that twirled for a while). I was so excited about wearing it I drew a picture on my calendar so I could count down the days till I got to sport that fancy thing!

But one of my all time favorite Easter dresses (in the “non-twirl” category) wasn’t a dress at all. It was an outfit.

I started with wanting a pencil skirt, and built the whole thing around that.
It was a white pencil skirt with a black wrap vest, underneath of which was a polka dot blouse. Then I wore it with black shoes that laced up my legs and a wide brimmed white hat. It was so sophisticated yet playful (in other words, very Elizabeth ;)

I’m telling you this because I want to emphasize that you don’t have to do an Easter dress if you don’t want to. Think about creating an outfit. Dress shopping can be hard if you have a lot requirements. That’s a lot of things for one item to live up to!

Think about what it is you want to look like, maybe what shape you’re going for and go from there.

In order to help you figure all of that out, here are 5 steps towards creating the perfect Easter outfit.

1. Start with something you love. Like I did with the skirt. Find one item you own or have found in a store and build it from there. If you don’t have a starting point it’s going to be much harder down the road.

2. Once you have that one item, if you need to buy something to go with it, try things on that you already have. And not to say you’re not going to buy something, but the better idea you have of what shape or color you’re going for, the easier your shopping will be. For example, if you have a billowy skirt and you know you want to pair it with a fitted shirt, try on the fitted shirts you have even though they may not be the color you’re going for. You’ll at least get to know if the shape is going to work before you buy something.

3. Be flexible when you shop. Have an idea of what you’re looking for, but remember there are other options that could work better. So don’t have tunnel vision when you’re looking. Keep your eyes peeled for anything within the color family or shape family that may go with what you’re looking for. This way your chances of being disappointed decrease.

4. Don’t feel as if you need to be matchy matchy. This isn’t the 90’s where the same floral pattern has to be reflected in your shoes, earrings and underwear. Remember we’re living in the fashion era of mis-match (but not in a Clarissa Explains It All way…a little more subdued than that). Download a picture of the color wheel on your phone and look at colors opposite the one you’ve picked out so that you can get things that compliment rather than tone on tone match.

5. Wear what you love. Remember, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Wear something you’re going to feel good in! That’s the one thing I can say with certainty as I look back on all my Easter outfits…I loved wearing them all :) And it’s that feeling of loving what you’re in that’s going to translate beauty!

And just to prove I’m not against wearing a dress, come back tomorrow for steps towards finding the perfect one!
