Find a Good Hairdresser and Be a Bad Date

I find it fascinating that on a regular basis we strap ourselves into a chair one foot off the ground, don an encumbering gown and watch as a complete stranger dances around our eyes with a sharp object. But if you find the right stranger it’s totally worth it.

So find yourself a good hairdresser and be a bad date.

By that I mean, talk about your hair-a lot. Take ideas in at your appointed time and bounce them around. If you have an idea about layers ask if they think it will work with your face shape and run by them all the styles you typically do so that the new cut will still work with those. Then sit back and let them do their magic.

I can’t write about hair without paying homage to what I think is the greatest salon since sliced bread-Salon Barnes & Barnes here in K town.

It’s owned by a husband and wife and having had my mane cut by both, I know first hand that they are truly anointed to cut hair. They have mastered what it takes to be a good hair stylist which to me is a balance of listening to what you want, and mixing in their professional input. Trust me, I’ve had other hairdressers that fall in either extreme-one that couldn’t make a move without running it by me, and another that did things to my hair without even telling me before hand.

It makes a big difference when they know how to balance it out.
