I contend that a bag is the most important thing you put on. Followed closely by your coat, but lets unpack the bag statement first (ha! …unpack the bag).

A bag, be it diaper, laptop or hand, is something we are constantly reaching into. It’s also the one thing we always have with us no matter what level of put-together we are.

Because it’s with us so often, we become blind to the coffee stains, the loose papers, the empty packets and receipts. We just see our lifeline. The thing we reach into for snacks, money, wipes, work. It’s our babysitter in restaurants, it’s our powder room before a meeting.

But it isn’t until we start digging through it in a crisis that the dirt and disarray become all too apparent. When the baby is screaming and the coffee is overflowing onto your lap, the last thing you want to be reminded of is that your bag is a mess.

I’ve got two ways to help you with this. First, this post on the Knoxville Families Magazine website.

It’s here I talk about this brilliant bag (and it’s beautiful under-$30-price tag). Even if this one doesn’t suit your style, there plenty out there. I believe I’ve combed through them all finding this one, so I KNOW. It also proves that a nice bag doesn’t have to have a fancy name brand. It can and believe me, I wouldn’t kick it off my shoulder if it did. But nice bags can be cost effective too.

And here is where I share how to keep your bag neat and organized. In this case it was a diaper but my points can really be applied to any bag.

Finally, coats.

It seems silly to talk about coats while I sit in an air conditioned space (trust me, when I hit the AC button I complained to my 18-month-old how ridiculous it was for it being February).

But whether we wear them again this season or not, we will at some point before the year is out. And having a nice one makes all the difference in the world.

I make that full case here.

I hope this helps you look and feel spiffy all weekend! See you back here next week!

  1. Great points. People do see your bag and outerwear first, so they do make an impression. I’m so guilty of carrying the same bag until it’s ratty and worn. Thanks for linking up to Fabulous Friday.
