Let Me Help You Style Those White Pants

It’s the time of year for white pants!

You can wear them whenever because the old rules of waiting till Memorial Day have been thrown out (as you’ll see me awkwardly repeat after Abby in the segment below). But it’s still fun to amp up your usage now that summer is unofficially almost here.

So what to wear with white and how can you transition your white bottoms from casual to dressy occasions?

Your every question answered with these beautiful pieces from Chico’s in West Town Mall!

This jean jacket, by the way, is one of the cutest jean jackets I’ve ever seen and has been stuck in my brain ever since I did the segment so I’m considering adoption…

PS: The top I’m wearing cost TEN DOLLARS and is from Forever21 (they have other colors available too)!

Spiffy Mint + White

I love this outfit. I tried to think of a more creative way to intro this post, but that’s what I’ve got.

I don’t often repeat whole outfits. In fact, I most often go a full season without repeating an outfit once, but so far I’ve reached for this exact combination several times (while carefully avoiding the same crowd and any incriminating social media pics).

The light colors make it appropriate for the season, while the coverage it gives makes me less susceptible to bug bites and appearing bright white (as I’ve yet to do anything about a tan).

When the temps get too unbearable for pants, I can pair this shirt with a stretchy casual pencil skirt or wear the jeans with something sleeveless. It’s great to have a 3/4 length sleeve in a light material around for summer events that may be indoors where the AC is working over time (OR MY OFFICE, geeze people).

I got this shirt at The Loft Outlet, but here’s one that is similar, and here are the jeans and shoes (here’s how I tracked down the perfect white jeans).

A Small Rant on Subscription Shopping & a Great Summer Outfit

The only problem I can find with subscription clothing services, is it eliminates the thrill of the hunt.

Take this outfit for example.

If I were to have bought it out of a box that was shipped to my door, put it on and wear it to a party, and if at that party someone were to say, “Oo I love your outfit, where did it come from?!”

My response would have to be, “A box.” The sound of ice falling in my cup breaks the silence. “It showed up to my house and I put it on.”

Instead, it would play out like this…

“Oo I love your outfit, where did it come from?!”

“Oh it’s a great story…I had only four hours until our family photo shoot and had NO CLUE what to wear so I SCOURED the mall frantically (all the while pushing Jackson everywhere). Finally, I went into Express and tried on this shirt. It’s a size larger than I normally buy, but it was on clearance, so I went for it and I love it….Oh and this necklace I got on sale, but it was on accident as the guy at the counter at Rue21 said they were having a buy so many get so many half-off sale on jewelry, so I ran back to pick up another piece and I grabbed this. At first, I wasn’t sure about it, but now I wear it all the time. And these jeans I found because I searched for the perfect pair online then found them at Aeropostale, went in and tried them on and they were on sale too can you BELIEVE it?!”

Not to say that I’ll never do a subscription clothing service ever. In fact, I don’t hate the thought of not having to put public pants on myself or Jackson and haul us both down to the store, gambling the whole time that I’ll find something I like and the trip won’t be a waste.

For now, superseding that is my love for the deal.

Regardless of how you get them, white jeans are a great way to “summer-ize” your spring wardrobe. Wear them with just about anything and they instantly make you look like you’re on vacation…at least if you squint real hard and are peering through a glass of mirky lemonade.

They are a great alternative to shorts speaking of which, here are some other great alternatives to short shorts.

Grab your own {similar} sheer shirt here, your own {similar} colorful statement necklace here, and these awesome white pants here. And let’s not forget the highlighter yellow heels.

Finding the Perfect White Jeans

white jeans, distressed white jeans, jcp, new york and co, west town mall, style consultant, elizabeth ogle, knoxville fashion blogger, belk, white pants, aeropostale, west town mall style consultant, west town mall, summer ootd, spring ootd

Now that I have an active little boy (and not just a snoozing newborn), online shopping is more than just a way to distract my eyes from the gross parts of Blacklist, it’s a necessity.

And unless you love the physicality of walking from store to store, an online pre-shop session will save you a lot of time and effort.

I always start online with stores I know are in West Town Mall. It’s the most convenient spot for me, and if I find multiple options I like, I’m not going to have to drive and park and unpack the baby and drive and park and…so on and so forth.

My white jean requirements were pretty simple: skinny, cropped, distressed around the knee, under $30.

If you don’t know what kind you want, always default to the shape of pants you wear the most and go from there.

White pants in your favorite shape can help preserve your favorite jeans and give you something fresh to reach for.

Once you’ve bounced around online and found a pair or two that you like, always read reviews. It’s the best way to know if they’re going to be true to size, but more importantly, if they’re going to be see through and/or flattering.

Let’s be real – white pants can be the most unflattering thing you’ve ever put on if you’re not careful. That fact alone ruled out a couple stores I would normally search in because the cheaper the pant, the more see-through it will be.

Belk has some great options, as does JCP and New York and Co. American Eagle Outfitters almost won me over, but they weren’t putting their jeans on sale fast enough and since this is seasonal/trendy I didn’t want to pay over $30.

After I thought I had exhausted all of my recourses, I mentally walked through the mall one more time and remembered Aero (or Aeropostale – the single most unpronounceable store until Rothlesburger opens a Gyros & Worcestershire stand).

There they were – the white jeans I’d been looking for. Cropped, distressed around the knee, skinny and boom – twenty-eight bucks.

I stopped by the mall on my way home from work, walked right in, tried them on, yadda, yadda, yadda I’m the proud owner of some great jeans.

What do you need to pre-shop online for?

White Hot Pants That Won’t Show Your Business

We all know the problem with white pants – they can get a little too “show and tell” *ifyaknowhatimean.

We want to look cool and crisp in their clean bright effortlessness, but we certainly don’t want our backside and Hello Kitty underwear on full display.

Thankfully, it’s possible to have great white pants without having to leave a room walking backwards. I’ve gathered four options from stores in West Town Mall to show you the different cuts and brands that give you comfortable coverage without cutting out the cute.

new york and company, the limited, ann taylor, white pants, how to wear white pants, the limited, fashion, summer fashion, knoxville fashion

Ann Taylor: These are actually eyelet pants, so they’ve got a great texture to them which will help mask any imperfections and panty lines. I also really like their relaxed look!

The Limited: For a more jean-like feel, go for these. With a skinnier silhouette they’ll play perfectly against billowy tops (or kimonos!).

New York & Co.: A long white pant is probably my favorite, and I can personally vouch for the greatness of New York & Company’s white pants. These would work in both the office and after hours with their slack-like shape. The material is heavy enough to give you coverage, but light enough to keep you cool.

White House Black Market: These are wrinkle resistant! AH! That’s so nice. And they’re the perfect length for showing off your cute summer shoes and pedicure!

If you’ve got your eye on a pair of white pants that aren’t in this list, I strongly advise you to read reviews. You’ll be able to learn a lot about the pants and whether or not to buy your size or not. Especially if you’re buying online, knowing if they run true to size really helps, and most of the time people leave that in the reviews.
