The Necklace You Shouldn’t Wear with a V-Neck Tee

Sometimes I touch my face and have to remember if I’m wearing makeup or not. Anyone else do that?

You go to rub your eye, or you actually rub it and realize you put on mascara that day. Oops.

This year my work environment got super casual – as in I have no commute and my dog is my office mate. So I don’t put makeup on everyday. Which is what causes the panic every time I touch my eye. Wait…am I messing up makeup? Yep. (that just happened)

I’m telling you all of this because my wardrobe is leaning heavily towards the casual these days. But that just means I get to play around with dressing up casual pieces. Like this great t-shirt I picked up at TJ Maxx. I wish I would have grabbed one in every color because I looooove it like a teen girl loves a pop song.

It’s the right length, it’s got a not-too-revealing neckline and it’s comfy. Oh and it was like $6. I know, WHY DIDN’T I PICK UP 40 OF THEM!?

But the neckline can be a bit tricky, so I enlisted the help of my assistant, Veronica, and together we’ll show you what necklaces to wear and which ones to avoid when dressing up a v-neck tee.

Enjoy!

Here’s a necklace similar to the black and white one! And it’s on sale at Fiore Boutique (go see them in West Town Mall)!

Have I mentioned that my video quality will get better soon? I’m working on that. Right now my motto with videos is, “Just do it already!!” but I’ll soon have higher quality. Just hang in there and explain that to the 15,000 friends you forward this link to. K? K.

A Beauty Bag and a Milk Expert

ipsy bag, ipsy bag review, beauty blogger, wbir beauty blogger, youtube channel beauty vlog, knoxville beauty, best beauty products of 2017, bare minerals foundation, derma rolling

Think of this blog as a major news network and think of the expert I brought in for this weeks video review as just that – an expert.

I didn’t have to coach him, all of the opinions he shares are his own.

He was fairly compensated and put up in some pretty sweet digs. I do believe he’ll be a guest on my show again.

Here’s what I got in my Ipsy bag this month. If you want to sign up for one (they’re only $10!) click here!

*Quick note: the snail stuff isn’t for your nails. I mis-read it. It’s for your FACE…. Needless to say I’ve not tried it yet. I’ll need to work up the courage for that one.

Feel free to subscribe to my channel and share the link to this video with 10,000 of your closest friends and family! :-D

Summer Style Plan

summer style plan, knoxville fashion blogger, east tn fashion blogger, popular fashion blogger, elizabeth ogle, west town mall, wbir, wbir beauty segment, wbir fashion segment, ten news this morning fashion

At the start of a new season (hey there, summer) I like to make a style plan.

If you’ll remember every year I like to set style goals. I know you remember this because you re-read all the posts on The Spiff on a weekly basis, duh.

A style plan falls in line with my goals, but is just altered to fit the season and everything it entails. I hope I haven’t lost you with all this scientific style talk. I think I would have lost myself by now so I’ll quit.

Last week on the show I talked about creating a capsule wardrobe. This will help you get the most out of the pieces you’ve bought for summer, but even more importantly it will help you create cohesive looks that fit your event, your style, and you short getting-dressed time frame.

Here are a few things I didn’t get to say in the segment…

1. Look at your summer season as a whole – what does it involve the most of… Outdoor weddings? Picnics? Play dates? Whatever fills your schedule, think of those events when you look at what you’ve got and see how you can more easily get dressed for those outings.

2. Limit your clothes shopping once you’ve bought a few pieces. You want to challenge and awaken your creativity and the best way to do this is to limit what you buy for a bit. I KNOW, IT’S HARD. If you can’t cope, just “shop your closet.” Hire a friend to stand there and look at you like you don’t belong, and then hire another friend to stand there and look like they can’t wait to go home – there you go – shopping experience: check.

3. Push yourself. Style your outfits differently so that you’re not wearing the same exact outfit over and over again. Get your creative juices flowing and do your best to not wear the same pieces the same way twice!

Now watch the video for more tips on building your summer wardrobe!

A Cheap Trendy Item for Everyone

In the marketing department I work in we have a saying about kimono’s. When we’re looking over our work, we try to determine if we’re going “open kimono” or not. It’s not a good thing if we are because it means we’re giving away too much information.

We’d rather be “showing a little leg” and leave the people wanting more.

I don’t know if it was our constant jokes with kimono’s or what, but I’ve suddenly been craving this trend.

Here’s how these can really help your summer wardrobe…

Because of their fluid shape and open front, kimono’s are great no matter your size/shape/age. And in all my kimono shopping I have found that there is a wide variety of patterns and colors out there.

I will say, it’s a little harder to find ones that don’t have a floral or tribal print, but it is possible. So take it from me – you can find some that fit your style.

If you’re wondering how to style a kimono, my advice is always always wear it with a crop top. Show as much as your belly as you can…then finish getting dressed and walk out the door.

Really, they can be worn with a lot of things. You can throw it over a tank top and jeans to add a great color/movement/pattern to your look, you can pair it with a simple dress, or you can (and here’s where you really get your money’s worth) use it as a bathing suit cover up.

The girl sporting the tribal print kimono from Dillard’s is wearing it with a bathing suit (she was going too open kimono in the front *ifyaknowwhatimean so I had to turn her around ;)

I love them because they translate such a relaxed vibe and add great visual interest to simple outfits. They work great with a growing baby belly because they fit no matter what, and they’re not going to make you hot. At least not in the temperature sense – A-OH! ;)

Try one out and see what you think! You can read up on my thoughts about trends (and why I’m doing this series) here, and catch last weeks featured item here.

Meanwhile, check out these figure-flattering bathing suits from Dillard’s…

Let’s Refresh Together

‘Ello!

I am Elizabeth Ogle, beauty and fashion blogger as well as Style Consultant for West Town Mall (if you know that already give an exasperated sigh while throwing your hands in the air).

This year so far has been a swirl of fun activities so now that I’m back to blogging regularly, I thought a great way to really start 2015 would be to reintroduce myself and my hidden agendas. I had a meeting about that with the other person I work with (my dog) and he agreed bones are delicious….which I took to mean, “Reintroducing yourself is the most professional thing to do at this juncture.”

I am so passionate about clothes and confidence and beauty products that four years ago I decided to pour all of that into a blog. Oh and I love to write, so consider that the homemade whip cream on top of it all. Yum.

In 2012 I was given the opportunity to be a guest on WBIR’s morning show over on FOX. Turns out I love being on TV and they loved having me, so for the past 2 1/2 years I’ve been a regular guest (my latest segment you can watch above). In 2013 I applied for “Style Setter” with Simon malls. A job that I got which meant I got to write about things from my local mall (West Town Mall – to be exact). Once that gig ended nationally in 2014, the people running West Town said they were having so much fun with me and I with them that they gave me a new title, “Style Consultant.”

That means I get to write some more and have mall merchandise at my disposal to talk about on TV!

I tell you all of that not to toot my own horn (ha, toot), but to instead show that I’m a professional blogger (ok maybe a small toot) (ha) and most importantly to testify to the fact that when you obey God and walk in the destiny He has planned for you, great things happen!!

God has put in me a strong desire to help women feel good about themselves and to dress in a way that presents them beautifully to the world. So if you want all of that, come back my and read some more! If you don’t want any of that, read other blogs ;) kidding. I do think it’s important to make it a habit of reading a blog(s). Not only because they’re FREE to read, but also because they help you stay fresh and in-the-know on what’s happening in the style/beauty world, from real/unbiased people.

So if you like what you’ve read so far, I hope you come back tomorrow and the next day and the day after that x infinity. :)
