Earlier this year I lived gloriously close to the mall.

I used to say that most people like to live near a great view of the mountains, while I was perfectly content living within the glow of the Belk sign. And it’s true.

Now that I can’t consider the mall an extension of my closet, I’ve been popping into Target more often for when I neeeeed something new to wear. I picked up this dress on super clearance.

I’ve done that a couple times with dresses at Target – which completely breaks my rule about not buying something just because it’s cheap. But in this case it worked out beautifully because I saw the potential and how it could follow me well into winter.

It’s comfortable, pairs perfectly with tights and is a nice pattern that’s not stripes or full on flannel.

Plus I’m excited about layering it under some really cozy sweaters and switching up the necklaces later on.

That’s one thing I love about the cooler temps. Tights and a cozy open cardigan can really help you get extra use out of those late summer/fall pieces. As long as it doesn’t include light fabrics or colors, you can totally work it well into winter.

Here’s a very similar version from JCP for under $30!

Here are some ways I plan to style this dress and others this fall/winter.

Product Review: Rapid Tone Repair

lotion, moisturizer, neutrogena, spf, target lotion, target beauty, target, what moisturizer to use, knoxville beauty blog, knoxville blog

I’m a sucker for a good ad. If the right ad were to come along promising to help me grow a tail, I’d probably buy it if it were pretty/convincing enough (also I’ve always thought it’d be cool if we had one…it would be like a third arm AND a mood indicator that doesn’t lie!)

What’s funny about that is, my day job is in marketing so I’m completely familiar with the tactics/thought process behind the persuasive writing. And yet… It’s only 33 easy payment of $19.95!!

When I saw an ad for this Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer I was hooked. I would love to use less foundation and concealer because my skin tone is so even, sign me up! After “signing up” by handing the cashier at Target the $20, I took it home eager to see the results (they promise a difference in a week).

I have to be honest, and I really hope no one from those drugstore beauty brands reads this, but I actually liked the fact that it was $20. It always makes me a little leery when a beauty product makes all these grandioso promises, but costs less than lunch. If it were so great…wouldn’t they want to be making more money off of it? And twenty bucks is right in my comfort zone. Not so much that I get a call from the husband, but enough to make me think it will work (just kidding about the call from my husband…he’d address it in person. Just kidding. He’d hire someone to address it).

Now for the part you’ve been waiting for…the results!

Well, I’m still using concealer and foundation. BUT I am using a big less in the area where I had some acne scarring. I did notice that decreasing over time. Did I see results in a week? Meh. That’s so hard to tell, because I don’t know if it’s my brain telling me spots are fading or if it’s actually happening. I’ve only been using it for about two months now, so maybe as time goes on I’ll see a bigger difference.

Regardless, this lotion is nice and light. It soaks right in and has an SPF which is SO CRITICAL. Really, the use of all caps there is called for. And even if it is just the power of suggestion, I’m ok with that.

You’re Going to Want More Booties

shoes for fall

First up on my shoe wish list this season? These puppies. I fell in love with black Madden Girl wedges like these two years ago, and now I think it’s time to get another pair in a different color.

These are to your fall wardrobe what gladiator sandals are to summer outfits – striking the perfect balance of casual and dressy.

Wedges like this are great because they give you a little bit of height, which will come in handy under long wide legged jeans and can sometimes be a bit more comfortable than complete flats. Something else I love about these is they can be worn with socks.

I made the move from Florida to Tennessee 10 years ago this year and it’s starting to show. When I first moved here, I craved the feeling of flip flops between my toes. Ten years later, I’m tracking down shoes that will allow me to stay in socks for as long as possible. Funny how that goes.

These can be found at Target, by the way. And after reading the reviews it looks like they run true to size and are pretty comfortable after a long day. Some reviewers thought the back of the shoe was going to rub their leg but it seems that wasn’t a problem.

Besides getting to wear socks with these, the other thing I like about them is they’ve got a rubber sole. When I’m trying to convey a casual look, I really can’t stand it when my shoes are clicking on the ground. To me that is the sound of being dressed up – it’s the sound of high heels. And when I’m looking to be casual and cute, I don’t want everyone listening as I click my way around. It’s a quirky thing, I know.

Pair these with some cuffed boyfriend jeans and a sweatshirt and earrings! Just don’t buy up all the size 10’s. I’m serious.
