This fuchsia color makes my mouth water.

In fact, a jewel tone paired with black and white stripes is everything I love visually about life.

This top gives me everything I need for this outfit once I tuck it in and add a jacket. It would probably be too much volume paired with the skirt on its own.

This is why a jean jacket (or any jacket, really) that you love is the greatest closet staple. As is a great patterned a-line skirt! If you follow me on Instagram, you can see how I styled the skirt in warmer weather.

After a busy weekend throwing a bridal shower for one of my bestestestest friends, I was glad to have pre-prepped this outfit for Sunday morning. (Which explains why there are no fall decorations on my porch – you just wait till I have time ;)

If you get the chance, putting an outfit together ahead of time is the way to go. I love to do it so that I can have time to mull over what accessories would work. That way I’m not throwing them on as I walk out the door.

But I understand, not everyone wants to stand in their closet and play dress up like I do. But that’s why you read TheSpiff! :-D

And while all of these pieces were gathered over time (some at deep discounts) I’ve put together a list of similar things so you can shop the same pieces if you’d like…

Help With Accessorizing: How Necklaces Can Change Your Look

how to accessorize, how to wear one shirt multiple ways, how to accessorize for a night out, knoxville fashion, knoxville beauty blogger, knoxville blogger, tennessee blogger, style consultant for west town mall, elizabeth ogle, funny fashion blog

After having been with the company for several months now, it’s time for Veronica’s first real modeling gig. Plus apparently she was having a “good skin day” so she was happy to oblige.

I am a big proponent of stocking up on accessories. Especially if you’re pregnant. A necklace will always fit no matter how big your belly gets.

As I’m about to demonstrate – a necklace can completely transform the look of a shirt. (Or blouse if you want to sound fancy).

The shirt Veronica is wearing is actually a maternity shirt. I chose it because it has the perfect neckline for a statement necklace and it has a pattern. The neckline dips a little below where I would feel comfortable wearing it. Veronica, however, has no morals.

The first look is for the office. Or a more casual, daytime atmosphere.

For this, keep it simple with something gold. I picked this necklace up at Forever21, who has no shortage of great, affordable gold jewelry.

You could also do a silver chain, but gold is so en vogue right now, just let it have it’s moment. To this I would add a white, nude, or leopard chain watch. You could do gold, but I like to mix it up.

The second look is for Sunday morning.

The easier the outfit, the faster everyone gets out the door, the more pulled together the whole family looks once you get there. One of my all time favorite combinations is black and white juxtaposed with some jewel tones, so this look just about sums that up.

With this necklace I would keep the arm jewelry simple. Probably a black bangle and that’s about it. I’m not going to tell you I plucked this necklace from the jewelry section in Wal-Mart because you would never believe me.

Thirdly, we’ve got a night time look.

I love that this necklace is both simple and edgy. Two things that make it perfect for a fuss-free night time look. Wear it with a leopard bangle to mix it up. I LOVE LEOPARD AND STRIPES SO MUCH…as if that wasn’t already evident.

This necklace is also from Forever21.  Rue21 and Charlotte Russe are also great places to pick up fun statement necklaces that won’t break your budget (which translates to the fact that you can pick up more than one *wink).

Finally, for a fancy event whether it’s for day or night, is this look.

What I did here was layer two necklaces.

The lower layer is what you see above, while the higher level is a lighter necklace. The lighter necklace is something I would never wear by itself. It’s a little too dainty for my taste. BUT over this edgier piece, it creates a cool look that’s all your own! Play around with what you’ve got and just make sure what you end up with doesn’t look messy or like you’re playing dress-up with your momma’s jewelry.

As you can see, a simple change makes a big difference. I’m all about helping you get the most out of your closet. And by stocking up on inexpensive necklaces, you can get more wear out of your more expensive tops!

If you didn’t get a chance to meet Veronica, be sure to catch her interview here!

Add a Little Sparkle

Do not spend one minute of your December stressing over what to wear to a Christmas event.

And yes I typed that sentence out for me just as much as you. There’s enough going on this time of year, there’s no reason we should add more stress to our lives. Especially when all we have to do is add a great necklace!

When it comes to putting together a gorgeous/festive outfit, one of the easiest (and cheapest) routes to go is buying a statement necklace.

Not only will it jazz up what you’ve already got in your closet (saving you some money), but it will also add just enough sparkle and will totally last you past the Christmas holidays (sometimes those sparkly sweaters get neglected once January rolls around).

Here are four necklaces from The Limited (at West Town Mall) that will add some major bling to your basics…

diamonds, necklaces, gems, statement necklace, what to wear to a christmas party, christmas party outfit, the limited, necklaces, diamonds, gems, long stranded necklaces

Have an all black ensemble planned? Then add these red gems for a strong dose of Christmas without being overdone.

The double strands of diamonds would add a gorgeous sparkle to a rose pink sweater or they would dress up a crisp white button up with a blazer and jeans. Or put them all together and wear the necklace over the top of them both!

This tiered gem necklace (in the middle) is a beautifully structured piece. Give it center stage by pairing it with an open neckline. Or give it a cozy back drop and pair it with a slim gray sweater – one that you would have never thought would work at a Christmas party, now totally can!

Allow me to make the word “convertible” even more appealing…this last piece is a convertible mixed media necklace. Which means the longer strands you see can be unattached and worn alone. In fact you can pair the necklace down again and remove some pearls there in the middle. OR you can keep the party going strong and wear it all together with a long waterfall sweater and a metallic tank if you want to go the real YOW-ZAAAA route.

*Note: In an effort to save my sanity and clear off some space on my plate, I’ll be taking Wednesdays off from the blog for the next couple of weeks. Good news is this will allow you to enjoy Tuesday’s post even longer, and get you hungrier for Thursday’s freshness.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’re having a very Merry Christmas season!

Christmas Gift Idea: A Little Thing

studs, earrings, christmas gift ideas for girls, starburst earrings, earrings, gold studs, gold earrings

If you’re like me and having a hard time figuring out what to put on your Christmas list, two things…

1. We’re so blessed and let’s thank God for it!

2. I’m going to do my best to give you (and in turn give myself) some ideas of what to put on the list.

Hopefully this little series will also inspire you with what to buy someone else!

The first Christmas gift idea? Tiny earrings.

Perfect to give:

They’re easy to buy for someone whose style you’re not quite sure of. You can buy several pairs, giving them plenty of options to choose from. And maybe even go a little crazy and find something that they would like but might be out of their comfort zone. The great thing is, they’re so small so they’re only making a teeny tiny statement :)

Perfect to receive:

Studs are that little detail that really set off your look. And because they’re so small they’re not always something you want to spend your money on. But it’s so nice to have a collection of them around. I love to have different ones because they’re usually what I pair with my statement necklaces for that little bit of glimmer without going overboard.

These earrings were a gift from my brother :)

The Limited has some really gorgeous ones, and right now their jewelry is on sale! So go stock up and add them to your list!!
