Two Quick Tricks to Help You Get Dressed This Spring

*Bear hugs Winter goodbye.

Two quick tricks to help you get dressed this spring.

Okay so I’ve got to come to terms with the fact that winter is over this week (OR DO I??)… Actually, I consider winter fully and completely over – as in stop reaching for winter colors/textures – by Easter. So if you want to join my “Still Celebrating Winter Over Here” party, feel free to do so until April 1st. And that’s no joke.

For the rest of you, keep reading…

Spring isn’t as drastic as a shift in seasons as thinking about summer can be. But the good news is if you master these two tricks I’m about to give you, then you’ll seamlessly transition into that season as well. So what’s the first trick?

Think of one look you want to rock this spring. Just one.

Example: for me, this spring I want to rock a graphic tee, jacket, jeans and jewelry. Whether it’s a necklace or bold earrings, I want to rock them with a jacket, tee and jeans. The good news is, I can vary that look in a multitude of ways – swap out the jeans for a maxi skirt, change out jackets, do a plain t-shirt with a patterned jacket and so on and so forth.

What that one look as done, if you’ll notice, is it’s created a myriad of looks for me to choose from. It’s also directed my focus to what I’m going to buy to start prepping for spring looks. Right now, I’m on the hunt for fun earrings to jazz up my collection. I’m also tracking down great graphic tees because the rest of the ensemble I’ve got in stock.

See how that works? Once you’re finished you have a whole collection of looks to swap out and wear in different ways – but all of it translates you and your style in varying degrees of dressiness. Which means you’ll ALWAYS have something to wear.

Give yourself a style challenge.

A couple weeks ago I pulled out the pieces I wanted to wear before the season ended and forced myself to choose from that group. I wanted to be sure to get use out of all my favorites. But what it did was made outfit decisions way easier.

The good news about doing this with your spring wardrobe, is that you can pull out pieces you might not have touched in a while. Making it feel like you went out and bought some new clothes. And even if your style doesn’t lend itself to definitive” spring-like clothing (IE: florals, light pinks, etc.) then pull out pieces that are lighter weight or just a bit flowy-er and make a capsule wardrobe out of them.

Still need some help? Check out my spring post from last year. I just re-read it and was reminded about how genius I am (AND SO HUMBLE).

Let’s make this our spiffiest spring yet!

My home-bodyness was truly tested last week. Turns out I’m even MORE of a homebody than I realized…

Half way through last week I was hit with a stomach bug. This landed me at home for….well the entire weekend (also Thursday and most of Wednesday). And you know, I was perfectly ok with that.

The fact that it was super rainy all weekend made hunkering down even more appealing. In fact by Sunday night it had been…well a long time since I had even left the house and I could have kept the streak going. Listen, I work hard and I do nothing hard. ;)

On pretty weekends, I am all about getting out for brunch (in fact, it’s on tap for this weekend!). Sure the idea of it sounds more appealing mid-week then it does at 8 o’clock Saturday morning, but once I get everyone dressed and out the door it’s pure enjoyment (dang it! We WILL enjoy it!).

This outfit is perfect in those moments where you want to look cute for a breakfast or brunch but don’t want to put the effort in. I have this on standby for any such occasion. The blazer is cotton (got it a while back on clearance at Target but here is a similar one). It’s definitely the most comfortable of the blazer + jeans looks I’ve been showcasing all month (first one here, second here).

The fact that it’s cotton makes it a comfy but perfectly cute thing to throw on Saturday morning!

The shirt! I’m all about a good graphic tee and this one I could get behind (or in? I guess?)

While it’s no longer for sale at the little online boutique I got it at, it is for sale on Amazon…click on the picture below to get it!

I hope you have some brunch plans in your future – or whatever two meals you want to combine and eat leisurely with friends. Linner maybe? Dunch? ;)

Products to Get You Excited about Your Morning Routine

bare minerals, spring makeup trends, beauty blogger elizabeth ogle, 10 news this morning, knoxville beauty, west town mall

Christina Aguilera had a bill board in our town several years ago that affected my life forever.

My husband and I were dating at the time and driving past her giant makeup-ed face he said, you know I like it when girls wear make up like that.

I decided I would love that man forever.

This week on 10 News This Morning I talked about some spring makeup trends to help refresh your look. Watch my segment below to see how you can pull off the trends with products from Bare Minerals!

One quick thing before you do, I may have taken too long gushing about them to get to everything I wanted to say…so below is what I would have ended with and the great deal they have going on right now!

The final trend I was going to speak to is lips! Matte is aallll over the place and I’m SO okay with that.

I like the matte look primarily because it’s approachable. It doesn’t look as if you can bump the person and lip gloss will end up everywhere. I don’t know why that runs through my head but it does.

I love how their matte lip stick wears – it doesn’t end up in crumbs all over your lips by the end of the day. It just softly fades.

Anyway, I could go on and on…

Right now at Bare buy that large bag pictured in the segment for $65 and fill it with 3 complexion pieces of your choice! (That saves you almost $30!), or you can buy the smaller bag for $45 and fill it with three eye or lip products of your choice!

Take advantage of that to get what you need and try something new!

My Spring Style Plan (and why you should have one)

spring style plan, spring style, knoxville fashion blogger, knoxville style consultant

If I’m being honest, spring for me consists of sneaking in as many winter pieces as possible. I’M NOT READY TO LET GO.

Jackets, sweaters, scarves….even boots! I’ll throw it on with some lighter pinks and call it a day for as long as I can until the whispers get louder. Seeing as how this week is supposed to hit 87 degrees at some point…that time is about up.

Why do I have a style plan? Probably because I need to have a winter intervention, right?! Well, no. I was reminded of why I have a plan about 30 minutes ago when I sat down to write this post. The blank white paper with its endless possibilities hit me and I immediately thought, “time to online shop!” So I hoped on over to GAP.com to see they’re having a sale! Woo Hoo!! Scroll, scroll, scroll…I don’t know what I need, or what to look for. I need a style plan…

Let me pause here and direct you to my 2016 Spring Style plan. I’m sitting here, fully impressed with past Elizabeth.

You need one too! It helps you direct yourself when shopping and prevents you from ending up with 12 jackets and nothing to wear underneath them (there’s a reason that’s my go-to example *guilty).

When making your plan, consider your style goals and how you can achieve them.

One of mine for the year is to shop my closet. Which means if I can’t find it there first, anything I bring home is going to replace something I’m obviously not touching in my wardrobe.

It also means I need to consider the trickier pieces in my closet when shopping, so I can pick up things to maximize what I’ve got.

Take jogger pants for example. I’ve purchased two pairs and I love them. But I need more tees that can work with those pants and later be dressed up.

PS: I dare you to find a picture on Pinterest of someone wearing jogger pants WITHOUT at least one hand in their pocket. Go on, try to find it. I’ll wait.

Something else I need to consider is my lifestyle.

I have a closet full of office-appropriate wear but this year I’ve transitioned into a work from home environment. Which means pajamas all day every day!!! athleisure has taken over my week and I’m totally ok with that.

But some days I need to take it up a notch, and you know, wear a dress. Here’s how I can easily do that and still be comfortable…

Since my t-shirt collection is going to grow because of this new casual  lifestyle I’m leading, I need to find ways to be able to wear them on a Sunday with a simple addition of something dressier and maybe an accessory or two…enter: these pants.

I love their volume and how they can be comfortable, flattering and perfect for pairing with a simple tee.

Finally, the only thing to get me excited about pulling out a dining room chair, packing up all my boots and climbing the chair to push them to the back of my closet is maxi dresses – YAS. I’ll wear them only on the days I intend to breathe.

This one… I mean…
