Why Read a Fashion Blog?

why you should read a fashion blog, fashion blogging, why read blogs, why read a fashion blog, fashion blogger, tn fashion blogger, mom blog

Because cat videos don’t help you get dressed in the morning.

Someone once told me blogs are dead. I couldn’t hep but laugh because the information came from an almost 50 year-old-man. I can imagine blogs are quite dead in his world. But in the world of women interested in fashion, cooking or let’s just say living LIFE, blogs are very much alive. So alive, they’re spawning.

So why give your precious time to reading any of these blogs?

I think it’s a great topic to cover because I write a fashion blog so of course I want to convince you to read it. But also because I want you to recognize the value I’m bringing to your life. Or the value whomever you choose to most often read – brings to your life. But I bring the most value out of any blog ever so just remember that. No big deal.

Here are three reasons why you should read a fashion blog…

1. Advice from someone who carefully crafts what they wear will push your style and keep you on point.

Maybe your nightmare isn’t showing up to an event wearing something you don’t love. But that is literally mine. So I carefully plan and craft every outfit I put on. AND I LOVE IT. You may not love it. In fact, I’m hoping you don’t so you’ll keep coming back to read how.

But even if you love putting outfits together, reading fashion blogs will help push your style or even just help you solidify what it is you love about yourself.

Sometimes I’ll read a blog from someone whose style differs drastically from my own – each time I come away more grounded in my own style and happy to be who God created me to be.

2. Reading fashion blogs is like having a relationship with a well-informed girlfriend without all the back and forth of when and where to meet.

I love getting together with my friends. But honestly, with kids it’s hard for that to actually happen. I’d also greatly appreciate getting together with someone who is going to tell me that I don’t need to put all my summer clothes away because you can use them to layer in the winter and fall. Which is what I get out of a fashion blog – a coffee date with a well informed girlfriend whenever I want it.

3. Stay on trend, shop better and get the best deals – on your own terms.

Of course I don’t want to look dated. But I also don’t want to dip into every trend that comes across the Forever21 floor. Cold shoulder tops are a great example. I saw them coming on a fashion blog, decided I wasn’t into them and kept on moving. Most fashion bloggers (myself included) are reading big time blogs to see what trends are coming down the pipe. So if you’ll read what we write, you’ll get to see the trends coming too and from there decide if they fit into your style aesthetic.

Not only trends, but sales and stores too! Most of the time bloggers are crawling all over the internet looking for the best deals or are privy to sales before everyone else is – so basically by reading fashion blogs you’re saving yourself money and effort combing the internet for good stuff.

Let’s break it down – most blog posts are between 250-500 words, which will take you all of 90 seconds to read at most. If you read two or three in one sitting and let’s even throw in a couple rabbit trails of shopping – that’s about ten minutes worth of time you’ve just given to inspiring yourself and giving you an outfit idea that could eventually save you lots of time/money in the future.

Sounds pretty great, right!? What are you waiting for?! I’ve got plenty of posts for you to catch up on :)

A Good Year for Rose Gold

rose gold, west town mall, banana republic, charming charlie, dillard's in west town mall, west town mall style consultant, 2017 trends, elizabeth ogle, fashion blog,

Let’s think of Rose Gold as the younger sister to Gold.

She’s the more off-beat of the two. She tans easily and has long untamed hair.

And I just got rid of an entire paragraph of back story I wrote for Rose Gold. I realized you’d probably rather know what to wear her with than to know that she was the unruly child that played pranks on Gold all her life…moving on.

If it’s a trend you’d like to dip into because you like it and not because it is a trend (don’t get me started on THAT), then I would suggested starting small and slowly building.

Sunglasses are a great way to introduce something new to your look. As are the big hoops – both of which (pictured) are from Charming Charlie. All of which, can be found in West Town Mall.

Everything I have pictured is a nice small toe-dip into the new metallic hue.

The clutch is probably my favorite. It’s from Banana Republic and it can CHARGE YOUR PHONE inside! If that doesn’t say, welcome to 2017, I don’t know what does.

The heels from Dillard’s would look great with a gray or cream dress. And since mules are also high on the list of trends for 2017, you can hit two trends in one with that pair pictured (also from Dillard’s). Those would gorgeously dress up a simple shirt and jeans look.

Overall, substitute your yellow gold with this new rose hue. It brings a softness to your look (which is probably why I may use it very sparingly. I don’t want to say never….but, you know, chances are slim that I’ll wear it). Pair it with neutrals like taupe, nude or white; or let it compliment something you own in turquoise!

But first and foremost, always wear it because you love it and you feel confident in it!

A Cheap Trendy Item for Everyone

In the marketing department I work in we have a saying about kimono’s. When we’re looking over our work, we try to determine if we’re going “open kimono” or not. It’s not a good thing if we are because it means we’re giving away too much information.

We’d rather be “showing a little leg” and leave the people wanting more.

I don’t know if it was our constant jokes with kimono’s or what, but I’ve suddenly been craving this trend.

Here’s how these can really help your summer wardrobe…

Belk // Forever21 // Dillard’s // Charlotte Russe // JCPenney

Because of their fluid shape and open front, kimono’s are great no matter your size/shape/age. And in all my kimono shopping I have found that there is a wide variety of patterns and colors out there.

I will say, it’s a little harder to find ones that don’t have a floral or tribal print, but it is possible. So take it from me – you can find some that fit your style.

If you’re wondering how to style a kimono, my advice is always always wear it with a crop top. Show as much as your belly as you can…then finish getting dressed and walk out the door.

Really, they can be worn with a lot of things. You can throw it over a tank top and jeans to add a great color/movement/pattern to your look, you can pair it with a simple dress, or you can (and here’s where you really get your money’s worth) use it as a bathing suit cover up.

The girl sporting the tribal print kimono from Dillard’s is wearing it with a bathing suit (she was going too open kimono in the front *ifyaknowwhatimean so I had to turn her around ;)

I love them because they translate such a relaxed vibe and add great visual interest to simple outfits. They work great with a growing baby belly because they fit no matter what, and they’re not going to make you hot. At least not in the temperature sense – A-OH! ;)

Try one out and see what you think! You can read up on my thoughts about trends (and why I’m doing this series) here, and catch last weeks featured item here.

Meanwhile, check out these figure-flattering bathing suits from Dillard’s…

An Easy Blue Dress

blue dress, maternity dress, non maternity dress, baby shower dress, amazon dress, blue maxi dress, fashion blog,

Pregnancy brain is a real thing. I once drove to work in the wrong direction for almost two miles before realizing what I had done.

And now I’m asking myself if I’ve written this already because it feels like I have…(see what I mean!?)

I can’t give you a scientific explanation for it, but I do know that the minute you look at that little positive stick a whole new world of thought opens up in your brain and sticks with you (I’m assuming) for the rest of your life. It’s not just about you anymore, it’s about a whole lot more.

Knowing the mental load that pregnancy carries with it, I determined early on that I didn’t want maternity clothes to be a point of frustration for me. So I did a lot of planning, looked at a lot of pictures and started formulating how I was going to translate my style while pregnant. I did something else that I believe was the greatest help of all, but you’ll have to wait to read about that on Friday :)

Shopping for shower dresses started way early and I went at it hard. Dresses are a very tricky thing to shop for when you have very specific taste. Then add to that a baby bump and you have me for the past month – scouring every dress website known to the wide world.

If I found one with a pattern I liked, it had two slits up the sides that my husband pointed out would only get higher when worn with a baby bump. Ha. True. Pass.

If I found one with a perfect bump-accommodating shape, it would have some kind of print that definitely didn’t translate “Elizabeth” (more like boho hippy child, on an Indian reservation).

I even ventured into the world of maternity dress shopping, which I’ve purposely treated like the plague so that if I can wear as much as I can now and later.

This dress gorgeous non-maternity-yet-bump-accommodating dress was found on Amazon (Lord help us all when you can get free 2-day shipping through Prime) but I originally found the same dress much more expensively on a big department store’s website. I copied the name of the dress and searched for it on Amazon, and sure enough there was a cheaper version (over $20 cheaper). Score!

It’s so comfortable and it’s got pockets!

I wore it to a beautiful baby shower thrown by my sister-in-law, and I’ll be able to wear it to Jackson’s kindergarten graduation if I so choose (and that’s no joke, I plan to re-wear one of the dresses I bought for my bridal shower).

A draping maxi dresses like this one flatters all kinds of body shapes, because the draping masks a lot. And if you want to balance out fuller hips and disguise the tops of your arms, pair it with a structured and hip grazing jacket.

I also really loved pairing it with a gold chain right at the neckline to give the top of the dress some interest.

3 of My {Current} Favorite Things

Well, hello Tuesday!

hair, hairspray, big sexy hair, product review, fashion blog, leopard top

A few things that have me looking and feeling more beautiful lately…

Favorite Hair Product:

Big Sexy Hair Spray. While this Dove hairspray really locks down my hair style so I can sleep on it, this hairspray really amps up my hair style so I can rock it. I had two events over the weekend that required fabulous hair, and this hair spray worked so well to keep my volume. Plus the name – I mean, did they nail what every woman wants out of a hair product or what?

Favorite Clothing Item:

If you don’t yet know what a Piko top is, hold onto your hat. These tops are comfortable and actually cute. They’re a better looking version of pajama jeans for your arms…yeah, that doesn’t quite click as a comparison. I’ll be talking more about these this morning on FOX 43 (tune in at 8:30 am!). Don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ll hear of these amazing tops.

Favorite Feeling:

I haven’t done much shopping this year. Part of that is due to the fact that I don’t want to buy much before my baby bump comes, but a large portion of it is due to the fact that I’m really digging what’s in my closet. And what a great feeling that is! It’s so satisfying to come out of your favorite store, completely content with what you already own. It’s wildly satisfying and very budget friendly ;)
