Three Spiffy Things

If you’ve been a long time reader of TheSpiff, you’ll know that when it comes to writing series I’m a bit fickle.

In the beginning there was “Spiff Splash” where I’d write about a bunch of things in one post. There was “This Weeks Nails” which I stuck to pretty regularly for a good year, but started to see that it wasn’t “well loved by the readers.” *air quotes.

There have been other smaller attempts at a series, but we don’t need to remember all of them. Sometimes looking through past posts is like looking at what you wore in high school, with the words, “What was I thinking?!” on repeat. Ha.

This time, though, this time will be different (she says hesitantly).

Three Spiffy Things is the shorter version of what I really wanted to title it, which was – Three Spiffy Things That Helped Me Get Through My Week and Maintain My Sanity.

They say to stick to less than three words for a title, so the rest got axed.

So I bring you the first Three Spiffy Things of *fingers crossed* many in a series to come…

Color Club Nail Polish

I was first introduced to Color Club when my beauty box subscription handed me nail polish from them in white. But it wasn’t just any white, it was the PERFECT white. Went on smoothly, covered well in two coats, not a stark white so I didn’t look like I had used office products – it was perfection.

I figured if they can handle making the perfect white, they can just about handle anything. This soft, yet still somehow bright pink is proof, they can, in fact, handle anything.

Gold Earrings

I’ve been on an earring kick lately. Most likely it’s because my necklaces are duck taped to a bed sheet that’s laying in a heap on my floor #movingproblems, but you never can tell. ;)

I love the look of a strong earring peaking out from perfectly coiffed hair. And since my hair when perfectly coiffed can engulf large objects (I once lost a mini-golf pencil in there – true story), the bigger the earring, the better it shows up.

I reached for these beauties two days in a row this week, so you know it’s love.

Get your own (for less than lunch) at Forever21 in West Town Mall.

Fancy Pants Hand Soap

God bless the buyer for TJMaxx/HomeGoods who said, “We should carry fancy pants soaps for cheap!”

Now that I have a gorgeous bathroom, I get excited to go pick out a fancy soap. My only requirement is that it looks good. This one happens to smell delicious, but not in a lingering it-makes-my-burger-smell-like-orange-blossoms way. Thank God.

*Reminder*

Stop by West Town Mall between 1 and 4 tomorrow to see me, enjoy a great fashion show and win fabulous prizes!

Earrings that Suit Your Face Shape

I took one of those personality tests recently. This was the kind that pin points your work, learning and communication style. One aspect of my being that I’m completely aware of and that the test so preciously pointed out, was the fact that I take a long time making decisions.

Just the other day, it took me all afternoon to decide how to structure my night after I left work.

This is why when I walk into a store like Charming Charlie, the options don’t so much excite me as they do overwhelm me. Even in an area like jewelry where I pretty much know what it is I want, seeing all that’s available to me causes the small decisive corner of my brain to drop the mic and walk out.

Thus I look for information to help me make small decisions easier. Information such as what earrings will best suit my face shape – something we can all benefit from and use to make shopping a little less stressful.

If you don’t already know the shape of your face, this article will help you determine it.

If you do, know that you’re not limited to only these shapes but that these could just be your go-to style. All of these, you should know, can be found at West Town Mall!

Earrings for a Square-Shaped Face

The angles of your face would really benefit from round earrings. Hoops and circles will help soften your face.

Earrings for an Oval Face

Since your face is so symmetrical, you can stick with studs or teardrop shapes to simply frame your face.

Earrings for a Round Face

You get to rock a long chandelier style because it helps to make your face look a little leaner.

Earrings for a Heart-Shaped Face

Because the shape of your face starts to curve in towards your chin, take advantage of that spot and fill it with earrings that sit on or very close to your lobe.

Earrings: The Party Pants of Your Jewelry Box

earrings, statement earrings, style refresh, how to refresh your style

If you’re looking to add a quick dose of fun and maybe even something different to your look this year, go for a jazzy pair of earrings.

A fun pair can really wake up your classic pieces. And what’s great about them is they’re noticeable (if you wear them right, they go right near your face), but can be small enough to where you don’t have to give yourself a pep talk to walk out the door.

If they dangle, then they add great movement and punctuation to everything you say (translation: two instant charm generators). And not to mention, a pretty pair doesn’t have to cost much (I picked these up for $6 at H&M in Atlanta).

I dare you to pick up a pair you wouldn’t normally give a second glance to, and see how just how fun they make you feel.

How to Accessorize a Fancy Sweater

how to accessorize a metallic sweater, metallic sweater, what to wear to a christmas party

I know there’s been a lot of talk of Christmas outfits around here lately, but this is a fashion blog and it is Christmas time. You didn’t come here to get the latest tech news. ;)

I first wrote about this sweater last Friday. But I wanted to talk about how I accessorized it.

Again, the great thing about going with something shiny is that it can stand on it’s own. A silver necklace wouldn’t work because it would disappear into the sweater. I considered doing a black necklace (and may go with one in the future) but because I was wearing my hair down, it wouldn’t get proper exposure.

So I chose these snake skin-patterned earrings. They were perfect because they had a pattern and weren’t shiny. This sweater really shines in real life, and adding shiny earring on top of that would mean passing out sunglasses before I walk into the room.

Remember, it’s all about balance. And (like you’ve heard me say a lot here lately) texture! If you have any questions related to this, remember to click on my social media links there on the right :) @thespiff_e on both Twitter and Instagram!

Christmas Gift Idea: A Little Thing

studs, earrings, christmas gift ideas for girls, starburst earrings, earrings, gold studs, gold earrings

If you’re like me and having a hard time figuring out what to put on your Christmas list, two things…

1. We’re so blessed and let’s thank God for it!

2. I’m going to do my best to give you (and in turn give myself) some ideas of what to put on the list.

Hopefully this little series will also inspire you with what to buy someone else!

The first Christmas gift idea? Tiny earrings.

Perfect to give:

They’re easy to buy for someone whose style you’re not quite sure of. You can buy several pairs, giving them plenty of options to choose from. And maybe even go a little crazy and find something that they would like but might be out of their comfort zone. The great thing is, they’re so small so they’re only making a teeny tiny statement :)

Perfect to receive:

Studs are that little detail that really set off your look. And because they’re so small they’re not always something you want to spend your money on. But it’s so nice to have a collection of them around. I love to have different ones because they’re usually what I pair with my statement necklaces for that little bit of glimmer without going overboard.

These earrings were a gift from my brother :)

The Limited has some really gorgeous ones, and right now their jewelry is on sale! So go stock up and add them to your list!!
