You know what would be great? If someone would pop out at will and slather me with sunscreen the instant I needed it. I have no real reason for writing that, I just thought that would be cool.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG… I took some great products from West Town Mall on the show with me last week to proves that you can get beautiful summer skin all the while being naturally protected and pampered. So check it out!

Then be sure to take a look at this post for any bag needs to have for all your cool summer trips!

Effective {and affordable} Skincare

bare minerals, bare essentials, good skin, how to have good skin, good cleansers for your skin, west town mall, knoxville fashion blogger, knoxville beauty blogger

The best thing in the Bare Minerals store at West Town Mall, besides all the natural makeup, or the candy-like display of eyeshadows; besides the new luxurious skincare line and the friendly staff, the best thing is the photo on the wall of a woman with freckles.

I am instantly put at ease when I see a picture of a woman whose beauty marks haven’t been edited out. It’s real, it’s honest. It’s what most people look like, for cripes sake, so why not leave it!?

Thankfully, their brand is not just a pretty beauty-marked face. They’ve got products that will actually deliver results.

I got to feature their new skincare line on the show this past Tuesday. One thing I didn’t get a chance to really go into detail about, is the fact that your skincare is so very important!

You could by the greatest, most expensive makeup in the world, but if you’re not putting it on good skin it’s not going to deliver the best results.

Five years ago I really started investing in my skincare. I’d like to say that I just wised up about taking care of the largest organ on the body, but really what happened is I broke out. Badly. It was as if I was being punished for all those zit-free teenage years. Seriously, I was a walking ProActive “before” picture.

Once I started investing in good products, my skin calmed down. We’re friends again.

What’s great about BareMinerals new line is that every product is filled with natural ingredients and it’s not something that’s going to blow your beauty budget.

Watch to see what all the benefits are, and the secret ingredient they’ve discovered that will transform your skin!

Micellar Water and Why It’s Great

micellar water, beauty product, beauty blogger, knoxville beauty blogger

micellar water, beauty product, beauty blogger, knoxville beauty bloggerI’m guessing the proper way to photograph a bottle of something is to do it when the bottle is full. But I figured this showcases just how much I love the stuff, as I’ve used it all up.

Micellar water hit the main stream last year and is gaining traction. I just saw a commercial for a drugstore version, which means it’s going to be every where (watch out, BB and CC creams, there’s a new kid in town).

Here’s what it does…

The molecules inside the water are meant to attract dirt and makeup while leaving all the moisture in your skin. Even hard to remove mascara and lipstick comes off with this stuff because the magnetizing molecules in it ninja kick dirt and oil to the curb.

Here’s why it’s great…

I used to wash my face all the time with those cleansing wipes. I started noticing that those wipes don’t get everything off. After a while I slowed down my use to just one night a week (Wednesday’s are particularly busy, so as a treat, I let myself remove my makeup with a wipe). This micellar water doesn’t require rinsing, but still effectively cleans your face, so this and a cotton pad are all you need for a perfectly clean face.

Isn’t that wonderful? No more water dripping down your wrists and onto your pj’s every night!

The other great thing about it, is it doesn’t leave your face dry. Those wipes do contain alcohol (some more than others), so they can really dry out your face. As can toners. But this stuff doesn’t leave you with that dry, tight feeling – just a really clean face.

Here’s a cheaper version, and here’s a more expensive kind.

A few things I forgot to mention in this segment…

*The Naked eye shadow pallet comes with an amazing tw0-sided brush that I left at home that day. But you get to keep that, which helps justify the price tag.

*The Art of Shaving Cream is in Peppermint which a scent that is supposed to energize you. Yet another reason to try out their amazing shaving products. Also, you won’t have to go to the store at all this year and buy more because it will last you.

*Ipsy Glam Bags are perfect if you’re not brand-loyal. I spend $10 a month on that subscription, and it’s made it so that I haven’t purchased bronzer, mascara, lipstick and a number of other products for years. Humidity Can Suck It, Have a Good Hair Day

This post may be from summer 2014, but humidity is with us every summer ;)

So please enjoy this post while I enjoy getting to be a new mom! And follow my on social media (links on the right) for updates on our cutie little boy!

fighting humidity

As I type this, I’m sitting outside enjoying a 75 degree day, completely humidity free.

That’s something I never could have done in the middle of a Floridian July (I am wearing my Jacksonville t-shirt, just so you know I haven’t completely lost allegiance ;) But I did want to point out that my humidity fighting resume includes battling it in Florida where the air sweats for you.

I’m certain our fight with humidity here in Tennessee isn’t over yet (in fact, two days later it’s in full swing again), so I wanted to pass on a few tips on how to help you fight the humidity battle…and win.

The very first step to fighting frizz and humidity, is to suck all of the moisture from your strands.

This means you’ve got to spend extra time under the blow dryer, but it’s worth it. Because when you don’t dry your hair completely, the moisture that’s left in it reacts to the moisture that’s in the air, and that’s what helps to bring about the frizzies.

Next, find a hair spray that has the words, “all day humidity resistance,” on it. This one from TRESemme has worked really well for me all summer. Spray over hair that you’ve styled or even just spritz it on a day when you’re wearing your hair straight for an extra layer of defense.

You could always lean into the humidity and allow it to work for you by going with some sea salt spray. I talk about this stuff a lot this time of year because it works so well. Unlike mousse it’s not going to harden your hair and make it crunchy. No, instead it’s going to give it a soft, matte texture. Even if you don’t have any wave to your hair, spray this stuff in and let it air dry for that tousled/bedhead/I’m a model off duty look.

And of course, you can always revert to throwing it up in a pretty bun, then taming your flyway’s with a cutie little hair tie like this one. It’s fabric that surrounds wire, so it stays put and doesn’t hurt your head, stopping humidity right in its tracks because it’s too busy saying, “Dang girl! You’re looking good!”
