Best Buys of 2019

2019 was a great year!

The fact that I had a baby at the beginning of it was good motivation to dive deep into the products that would help me feel like a regular person again and fast.

Which is good for you! Because I’ve accumulated those products here to showcase my favorite buys of 2019…

1. Revlon Volumizer Hair Brush

It’s like you grew a third hand and that hand can hold both a round brush and the hair dryer for you to give you the best, fastest blowout.

Sometimes I use it instead of straightening my hair. Other times I get detailed with it and will dry a section then hold it with a regular round brush to let the hair set while it cools. Regardless, it’s awesome, fast and gives you a blowout that will last for days.

Don’t start with sopping wet hair, dry it half way with a regular dryer then just wait for the fabulousness to come forth.

2. Tula Glow and Get it Brightening Eye Balm

Bought this in my car after I had pulled up to the house. My toddler was asleep in the back seat and it was one of those moment when I was not willing to get me and my baby belly out of the car just yet. So I sat and scrolled Instagram and came across this.

I bought it on the spot because I would be having a baby soon and I knew that after my last kid my under eyes needed HELP.

Boy was this the best purchase. It’s cooling, brightening and good for your skin. I’ve seen noticeable improvement in my under eye area since I’ve started using it – it’s brighter, just better. I will use this for a long, long time (and not just because the tube will last me forever).

There is the Rose glow and the Blue one – go with whatever would work with your skin type. If you have red undertones go with the Rose Glow. I’ve used both and they’re just both awesome.

3. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

I’ve heard a lot about this stuff. I would often ignore it. Then I bought it and I get it – this is the greatest concealer of all time. Why? It’s long lasting, gives you great coverage, mattefying, brightening and blends in really well. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a concealer.

Don’t be like me and read those statements and ignore them – click that link and buy some. You won’t regret it.

4. Marc Jacobs Eyelash Primer

This isn’t going to give you long luscious lashes – let’s get that out of the way. But it is going to get you fuller lashes than if you would just use mascara.

I’ve tried it and it really gives you a fuller look. Now it’s not HOLY COW WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO YOUR EYES THESE DAYS GINA?! – kind of full, but it is the confidence boost you need to walk out and wink at the security cameras in the grocery store.

5. Rocksbox

This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about this and it won’t be the last.

Okay, $21 per month gets you a round of jewelry with three pieces in it. That box you can keep as long as you want or return it as many times as you want. I generally use two boxes a month to give you an idea and it usually takes about 4 days for turn around.

The great thing is that $21 goes towards anything you decide to keep.

What I’ve used it for is to systematically update my jewelry collection with quality pieces that I don’t have to pay full price for. Each piece is discounted then with the $21 you’re putting toward on top of it you can get a lot of good stuff without paying a ton.

And you get to live with the piece before deciding to give it a forever home.

I’m going to write a full post on it, but if you’re tired of your jewelry and want to refresh for the new year – this is the way to do it.

$10 for All This

ipsy bag, beauty bag, knoxville beauty blogger, beauty blogger, beauty subscription bag, beauty bag

For less than a pizza, you can have all of this delivered to your mailbox. Well, not less than a Little Caesar’s pizza…or Domino’s on Tuesdays…never mind. How about for a mere $10 you can have all of this!

When I opened my Ipsy bag this month I was very happy with the size of the samples inside. And it’s not the first time it’s happened.

I’ve tried out several of the popular beauty subscriptions, and I can honestly say Ipsy is the best.

Here’s what I got this month and what I think about it…

The bag itself: Mmm not a big fan of this one. I talked about in this post how I plan to use these bags for helping me organize. This one just isn’t my style. But it would probably be good to hold hair stuff because that’s a mirror image of what I look like doing my hair in the morning.    ….why are you laughing.

IT Hair Care – 12 in ONE: I’ve used a hair care product like this before, and I like it. It promises to do a bunch of things (a 12 item long list). I need to try it when I’ve got tangles, BECAUSE I HATE TANGLES. I only used a little and it made the ends of my hair softer and more behaved, so I can imagine this bottle is going to last me well into menopause.

IT Cosmetics: I don’t think it’s related to the hair care product, but it is ironic that they’re both called “it.” While this eyeliner brags about going on smooth (and it does) I didn’t like that it ended up all over my lid within a couple of hours. I use these types of eyeliners on days when I’m going light on the makeup and I was really hoping this would stay put. Maybe with a little bit of help – like a primer or eyeshadow – it will stay in place. Because going on smoothly will help me add the light touch of liner I’m going for.

Lord&Berry lipstick: Nice, neutral shade. Went on smoothly and you didn’t need a lot to add color. Not bad.

Josie Maran Whipped Mud Mask in Vanilla Apricot: I’ve never got done with a mask and thought DEAR LORD MY SKIN!!!!!!!!!! And this mask, unfortunately, didn’t break that streak. What I look for is ease of use. This one you leave on from 5-10 minutes and just wipe off – again, not bad.

Dermelect nail polish: It’s really a treatment that helps splitting, weak nails that happens to be colored a delightful shade of purply pink. I’m excited to see what my nails look like at the end of the week. Since I paint my nails every week they are certainly on the weak side, so I’m a great candidate for something like this. I’ll keep you posted…

How to Keep Your Purse Cute and Organized

ipsy, bags, ipsy bags, knoxville beauty blogger, beauty blog, east tennessee blogger, how to stay organized, how to be organized, cute bags, cute organizational bags

While in church a few weeks ago, just as we were all asked to stand for the service to close – my purse dumped out.

That’s high up there on the list of things that you don’t want happening during service (other things on that list: your child saying something inappropriate, your bra popping off).

The worst thing about it falling over? Everyone on the row behind me saw that I keep all my lipsticks in a cruddy Ziploc bag. Which is cruddy because it rolls around in my purse and gets beat up.

It was in that moment of pure annoyance (or should I say “purse” annoyance HA), that I realized I needed to change some things about my life. Specifically the things that are in my purse and how they are organized.

As it turns out, I signed up for a beauty subscription service that sends adorable bags to my mailbox EVERY MONTH. Why have I not been making full use of these cute Ipsy bags?! What else in my life have I been totally looking over?! Could my phone be used to make phone calls?!

As Jackson gets older his needs are only going to get more bag-related (snacks, snacks and snacks for after snack time – we’ve learned he’s a big fan of food). These bags are REALLY going to come in handy. And it’s another great cost justification for signing up for Ipsy. It’s only $10 a month and not only does it deliver cute bags, it makes it so that you don’t have to buy things like mascara, blush and bronzer for years.

I’m happy to report I now have an army of amazingly cute organized bags – one for lipsticks, one for receipts, one for gift cards, one for snacks and one for wipes.

We are living the good life now! :-D

Look. That’s a good size Smashbox mascara. A tube just a little bigger than that would run you $22 at Sephora. I didn’t even have to get in the car. This baby and all of his glow-inducing friends showed up in my MAILBOX. Cause I’m a big time baller, shot caller, Ipsy Glam Bag subscriba (I’ll stop).

I’ll post more about those masks later (notice one is opened and Lord is it luxurious). And the bag is super cute. Every month I get a great one.

A few things I forgot to mention in this segment…

*The Naked eye shadow pallet comes with an amazing tw0-sided brush that I left at home that day. But you get to keep that, which helps justify the price tag.

*The Art of Shaving Cream is in Peppermint which a scent that is supposed to energize you. Yet another reason to try out their amazing shaving products. Also, you won’t have to go to the store at all this year and buy more because it will last you.

*Ipsy Glam Bags are perfect if you’re not brand-loyal. I spend $10 a month on that subscription, and it’s made it so that I haven’t purchased bronzer, mascara, lipstick and a number of other products for years.
