What a Foundation Wardrobe is and Why You Need One

bare minerals, west town mall, sephora, knoxville beauty blogger,

While shopping for a new foundation the other day, the girl (Sarah) at Bare Minerals used a phrase that caught my attention. She said it’s good to have a, “foundation wardrobe.” I caught it in the moment and didn’t unpack it until later on…

A “Foundation Wardrobe” is when you have more than one option when it comes to foundations. Gone are the days of the same-old swipe of the same-old formula day after day after day. Now there are so many foundation options out there, that you can build a collection – wardrobe – of textures, coverage and formulas from which to choose.

And much like your clothing wardrobe, you can stand in front of it your head full of your needs for the day, and pick whichever option will most perfectly suit them. It’s exactly what I do with my foundations, I just never thought of it like that.

If you’re still skeptical, let me unpack it further…Let’s say it’s Saturday, you’re going to run errands then work around the house. You don’t want to look like a slob – you’ll inevitably run into your high school ex boyfriend if you do – but you don’t want to spend valuable time and valuable full-coverage foundation on your face. What do you do? You go to your wardrobe and swipe a stick over your face, or apply some tinted moisturizer.

Okay, now it’s Sunday morning and you are going to church then lunch with friends, then out to dinner with family – you need full, long lasting coverage. Your tinted moisturizer will slide off your face by noon and the stick coverage just isn’t enough. You need liquid foundation.

I could go on, but those are just two examples in a pool of what could be 7 (since every day is different). And if you think it’s an expensive endeavor, think again. Since you’re not heavily using one foundation over the other, they’re all going to last that much longer, which means you don’t have to refill for probably another 6-9 months if not longer.

Okay, now let’s talk about options…

Light Coverage…

Complexion Rescue by Bare Minerals (clean products free of all the chemicals that are bad for your skin and full of ingredients that are good for you).

Hydrating Foundation Stick – new product! Gives a nice finish, swipe it in a few spots on your face then blend – it blends in really nicely and is especially good for dry skin. Has SPF25 and you can use it as a concealer.

Hydrating Gel Cream – a tinted moisturizer that has a nice gel-like texture. Lightweight coverage with a nice natural sheen. Also has SPF and antioxidants that are good for your skin. Both the gel cream and the stick are in the $30 price range. It’s great for moisturizing your skin, but doesn’t have staying power.

Laura Mercier has a very popular version of the tinted moisturizer – also has SPF and vitamins that are good for your skin. This one promises 24 hour coverage and is in the $50 price range.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream – this one has the heaviest coverage of all the moisturizer options. It is a CC cream which is color correcting so if you have more you want to cover, this is a great option. Also has the SPF and is hydrating. Of all the options this won’t deposit as many vitamins and minerals on your face, but will give you good coverage.

Medium Coverage…

Sephora Compact – matte, build-able coverage. I like to have this on hand to layer over a tinted moisturizer for a quick touch up.

Bare Minerals has a version as well – theirs is vitamin and mineral infused. If your skin is on the dry side you wouldn’t want one of these to be your main foundation, but it’s so nice to have on hand to add to moisturizer. Or to use as a finishing powder to lock everything in with a little extra coverage.

Sephora Airbush – this is a great, inexpensive way to try out an airbrush look. Gives you a soft, satiny finish that blurs imperfections. Apply by sweeping back and forth across your face. For under $30 it’s a great option to have on hand.

Heavy Coverage…

Makeup Forever Water Blend – perfect option for the pool or beach. It’s going to last hang on in the water and can go on both your face and body. Has a gel-like texture and gives you a satin finish. Rings in at $43.

Bare Minerals Bare Pro Liquid Foundation – this is performance wear, meant to last 24 hours. It does hold up well on your face. I like the build-able coverage. Gives you a matte finish and is transfer resistant – which I have found to be true! Has SPF and is $34.

Right now Bare Minerals is running a sale – get this box with samples in it, a brush of your choice and then 3 other products of your choosing for $99. That’s a great way to get your foundation wardrobe started!

How to Maintain a Fresh Face in Summer Heat

In the summer, the only thing I want to feel on my lips is cold gelato.

Rubbing gelato on your lips instead of lipstick is pretty messy and doesn’t produce the perfect pout, turns out….”hypothetically”.

So my pout was pretty pumped when the women at Bare Minerals in West Town Mall told me that there was a moisturizing matte lipstick coming out.

Moisturizing AND matte?! It must be witchcraft!

Nope. It’s just science and the brains behind Bare Minerals.

In my past experience with matte lipsticks I would end up feeling my lips after a while. Like someone had just applied false eyelashes to them – you know that feeling of being aware of every blink when you first put them on? That’s it.

And on top that, the color would wear off like I had some kind of medical issue on my mouth.

This new liquid matte lipstick is amazing. It glides on (a little goes a long way), it stays on nicely and if you get a shade that’s a little bit pinker than your skin tone it looks like you’ve got soft Victoria Secret model lips.

The shade I’m wearing is “Swag” and oh, did I mention that this was 3 hours after I applied it during which time I worked out OUTSIDE. I’m just going to step away now and let you buy some for yourself…

You Should be Wearing This on Your Face

And the one word that sold me on it.

Not going to lie, I thou1ght “setting powder” was a total scam.

Just a useless step in the makeup process – another product for “them” to sucker us into buying. *shakes fist in air

Uh but it turns out, it’s pretty useful.

I’ll tell you what sold me on it. I went into Bare Minerals one day to try out a new foundation. And the girl that was applying my makeup (Sarah – who now works at Coach in West Town Mall – go see her, she’s the sweetest, most beautiful creature) used the word “airbrush” when describing its finishing qualities.

Literally, I bought it on the spot.

Why that word is so alluring, I DON’T KNOW. But it is.

Still I used the powder faithfully until the other day… I’m getting low so I decided to skip it on a day when I was just running around. It was on that day that I realized it does more than make me look like a magazine cover.

First of all, I didn’t like how my face felt. It was as if my makeup was exposed. Like if I were to rub my finger down my face my makeup would wipe right off. With the finishing powder, my face feels more natural. Does that make sense?

Secondly (and most importantly) I got a glimpse of my eyes at the end of the day and I saw that my mascara or something was all smudgy under my eyes! Like I had sweated it off! I had just come out of the gym, sure, but I’m not a big sweater (more like a small cardigan – bud-dum-chhh), so it was surprising. And that’s never happened before, so I know it’s because of the powder.

The lesson in all of this? That powder really does help. And the good news is, it helps you use less makeup since you won’t have to do as many touch ups throughout the day. Plus it really doesn’t take that long to apply.

Of course, I’m going to recommend the Bare Minerals version as I’m a BM girl all the way. But I’ve also heard good things about Laura Mercier’s version and Bobbie Brown’s.

Regardless of the brand you use, just be sure to use some! Get a big fluffy brush and apply it all over your face before you add blush or any kind of contouring.

Top 5 Best Beauty Products of 2017

best beauty products of 2017, derma rolling, satin pillow case, bare minerals liquid foundation, matte lipsticks, beauty product reviews, 2017 beauty product reviews.

It’s so fun to see every year what new product is going to come out to make us look 25 years younger, more rested and generally more like a super model.

I’ve pulled together 5 of my favorite things from this year and want to share them with you!

One: Magnetic Lashes

Ground breaking when it comes to having full lashes without having to keep a regular appointment. By far, the best beauty purchase of 2017. I can’t wait to see what else the company comes out with!

Two: Derma Roller

Skin care is so important no matter your age. This popular regimen of poking tiny needles in your skin is said to promote collagen, and open up your skin to really soak in your products. I’ve seen a difference in my own skin since starting about a month ago. Good news is these rollers are pretty cheap – good news because you should replace them every 15 uses. Also be sure to wash them afterwards.

Here’s a great video that explains how to do it.

Three: Soft Surroundings Silk Pillow Case

I talk about this in the link above. Just know it’s going to help your skin and hair in the long run!

Four: Bare Minerals Foundation

Greatest. Foundation. Everrrrrrr. You guys!! *Deep breath* It’s long lasting, has SPF20, has beautiful, buildable coverage, lays great on your skin, blends nicely – I can’t rave about it enough. And did I mention it’s long lasting? I can put it on at 7 in the morning and not need a touch up at 4 in the AFTERNOON. It’s ah-maz-ing.

Five: Matte Lipsticks

I’m loving the surge of matte lips. I think they look way less fussy, more “natural” as in they don’t overpower your whole face but still give you great color. Bare Minerals version is my favorite (it’s actually hydrating!) especially now that they have a bunch of punchy colors.
