Your Key to Great Style

I’m going to show you a picture that might confuse you, then it will definitely confuse you and finally it will have you breathing a sigh of relief.

Now that the tantalizing agenda is set, here we go…

Don’t you find this combination confusing? My first thought was how much her outfit looks like a mash up of my pre-teen homeschool years when heavy white sneakers were the bomb and my school uniform days where skirts were made to make you look as visually unappealing as possible.

Are you ready to be really confused?

I pulled this picture off of Nordstrom’s blog talking about “great street style” during Fashion Week this past month.

Yup. This outfit is being touted as, “well put together” and “enviable.” One more thing? That’s not a skirt, that’s culottes (aka: giant shorts).

Here comes the sigh of relief…

While what she is wearing might have you confused and questioning your trust in anything that comes out of the fashion world, I look at it like this: we’re living in the best possible time for fashion.

Why? Because I’ve come to realize that what’s most commonly celebrated nowadays is individual style. Which means you and I both can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there aren’t any rules to follow or “style mandates” out there that say we have to dress a certain way.

The key to great style is to love what you’re wearing because that’s what will showcase you the best.

The Bible even echoes this thought in one of my favorite scriptures found in Luke 14:11 (MSG)

“But if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.”

Keep that in mind the next time you’re shopping and wondering what’s “in or out.” Buy what you love and wear it with confidence. This girl did, and it got her on Nordstrom’s blog!
