Image Does Matter

This week The Spiff is all about discovering your own sense of style.
Granted, most of you might already know that you don’t like to look like a punk rocker, or that you won’t find anything appealing in a thrift store, but what you might be able to glean is the ability to shop faster, and in a more decisive state of mind.

I have found that knowing what clothing translates to “me” gives me the freedom to quickly walk down isles eying only the sleeves, and figure out whether or not I’m going to like anything. Plus I can decisively rule things out. Even though I may find a shirt pretty, I know that it doesn’t represent the image I want to put out there so it simply won’t get the job.

If you know what translates to “You”, you’ll be more comfortable in your clothing and more confident in your swagger.

A good place to start in figuring out your style is to ask yourself this question: What’s one item you would want to be caught wearing if you were to run in someone you went to elementary school with?

This item would represent who you’ve grown up to be and in one glance define the style you’ve grown into (which hopefully will not include the Hello Kitty underwear they knew you to wear).

It’s a starting point. Once you figure that item out, go from there. Think about why you like it so much, even put a whole outfit together in your mind and think about why you like each piece.

We all have an image to put out there, let’s make it a good one!
