Mishelle

Mishelle, my sister and I

Over the weekend, my brother’s wife went to heaven.

Mishelle was a beautiful girl who made him very very happy. She was a strong woman of God, and never hesitated to tell you about it (or anything else she was thinking). :)

Her and I bonded over nails. She was a huge fan of those Sally Hansen nail applications that allowed you to wear different patterns. I loved looking for those and nail polish that I thought she might like.

She was also a big fan of animal print, I know I’ll think of her whenever I see certain leopard patterns that I know she liked.

We know without a shadow of a doubt that she’s in heaven, and we rejoice in the fact that she’s no longer in pain. We also put our hope in God who will carry my brother throughout this difficult time and beyond.

The one thing I’ve continued to think throughout this process is how thankful I am for the hope we have in the Lord. I can’t imaging going through anything like this without that hope, without the assurance that she is in heaven, and without the underlying peace that comes with knowing that God is in control.

I know for certain that Mishelle would give me a disapproving look if I didn’t use this as an opportunity to get someone saved! :) So if you are living without that assurance of where you’ll go when you die, and even without that underlying peace that comes with a relationship with God, then get it today!

Pray this prayer…

Jesus, I take You today as my Lord and Savior.  I give my life to You, to serve You today and forever.  Sin -Satan- I turn my back on you.  You are not my Lord.  Jesus is my Lord.  Thank You God for cleansing me of all my sin by your shed blood and receiving me into Your Kingdom.  It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

I look forward to seeing Mishelle and you in heaven one day :)

Recharge

The other day someone told me they wish they could be a blogger.

Immediately what flashed through my mind was like a movie montage of my blogging journey – typing through blurred eyes late into the night, literally rolling over onto my office floor out of frustration, collapsing on my keyboard while the blank white page of WordPress menacingly glowed (it’s possible).

knoxville fashion, blogger, fashion blogger, blurred picture, recharge

Like anything in life there are risks and rewards that come with running a blog.

I can still remember the first time someone ever told me they read my blog and it helped them tremendously…the woman was standing in an elevator with me and as soon as she said it, my eyes filled up with tears. <–That’s probably the scene that needs to go at the end of the montage I mentioned above.

What I try to keep in mind on weeks like this one when I’m feeling drained, is that without a doubt this is something God has woven into my fabric. It’s something He’s called me to do. So to keep on chugging I’m going to take a bit of a break. Just today and tomorrow.

I’m going to plug myself into the wall and recharge because right now my battery is flashing that there’s only 10% left (thank God it’s a metaphor and that I won’t actually shut down in a second). I’m thankful for encouraging blogs like this one, that help me take the pressure off myself for a bit. I know on Monday I’ll come back with a wave of fresh fashion inspiration.

Just wait for it. And remember to recharge yourself!

Good Friday

I have prayed over what I should wear since I was a kid.

I know you may think that sounds ridiculous, and that God has better things to do than to help me put together outfits. But you’re wrong.

God cares about every little thing. His love for us is so vast that He wants to be involved in every detail of our lives. You think He sent His son to die on the cross, to endure all of that pain, so that He could be disconnected from us? So that He could save us and then be done?

No! A thousand times no!

He wants us to rely on Him for everything.

I sat down to write this post, and I got one of those grins on my face that I know matches the one when I start to talk about Dayton. It’s because I have a relationship with God.

When I start to tell a story about Dayton that’s going to reveal some little funny quirk of his that I know no one knows about, it gets me excited because it shows how well I know him and reminds me of how much I love him.

The same is true with God. I love to talk about His mercy and grace, because it shows how much I’ve gotten to personally experience it and reminds me of how good He is.

Have you experienced this? When was the last time you spoke of His goodness? If you think this is something exclusively for me, you’re wrong again! ;) You can have the same kind of relationship with Him! All you have to do is ask Him into your heart.

It’s a season of new beginnings, let this Easter weekend be yours.

If you don’t have a church to go to on Sunday, we have a seat for you at Redemption. Go to www.redemptionchurch.com for directions and details.

Jesus loves you so much, remember that.

Why It’s So Important to Encourage

Quickly, think of one piece in your closet that you’ve received a compliment on…

Now think of the most expensive thing in your closet (wedding dress doesn’t count).

My bet (and the hinge this exercise hangs on) is the fact that it took you longer to think of what you paid the most money for than it did to think of the compliment.

Last week I received encouraging words that brought me to tears because it came right at the moment I needed it. It was probably 20 words and took the encourager less than 60 seconds, but it meant the world to me.

Our words hold so much power. And at the risk of sounding like something Danny Tanner would squat down to say… we really do need to keep that in mind and use them to encourage people more often.

The fact that I (and maybe you) can more easily pinpoint a complimented piece in our closet as opposed to it’s monetary value proves just how important it is to encourage.

So here are some encouraging words for you today!

You are so beautiful. Whether you feel it or not, you are totally loved and cherished by the one man that matters most – God! I realize it can take a strong set of mental calisthenics to really grasp the love of someone you can’t see…but it’s more real than the chair you’re sitting in.

Rest in that as you go throughout your day. And pass on encouragement every chance you get! Your words will do more good than you may ever know.

:)

Tune into FOX43 tomorrow to see me talk about my favorite looks from the Academy Awards last night!!

Want to Know What Love Is?

To prepare you for today I’ve shown you what to buy, and wrote two blogs on what to wear (here and here). Now let’s talk about love.

Want to know what love is?

love

This is love…

God showed how much He loves us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. -I John 4:9

I’ve been studying Romans 8 for a little while and I’ve found lots of good things in it (it’s really an amazing chapter). One of the things I noticed is how the first part of the chapter is about watching your thoughts and keeping them in line with the Word, but before it goes into any of that the whole chapter starts with… “So there is now no condemnation…”

I love that, because we’re not perfect and God knows it. He knew what He was getting into when He paid the price for us. So what we’ve got to remember is that there is no condemnation.

If you’ve sinned, if you’ve looked at yourself and belittled how you look or maybe you’ve allowed pride to settle in…there’s no condemnation. He wants you to run right back to Him and tell Him everything. That’s love.

That’s a love that is almost hard to get your head around. But He truly loves us that much and more.

Remember that today and every day you feel as if you’re not good enough. I want to get that concept so deep down in my soul that I not only grasp it for myself, but I want to put it to practice with others as well.

That is love. And His is the kind of love that we can’t be seperated from, for later on in Romans 8 it says this…

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow — not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below — indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38-39
That’s God’s love letter to us today! Happy Valentine’s Day :)
