Daily Facial Regimen

We all have our own routines when it comes to putting on our makeup in the mornings. I like to put mine on standing in front of my dresser, before I’ve done my hair, but after I’ve taken care of my dog (or else I’d be applying makeup to the sounds of his whining).

Whether you sit, stand, lean or take breaks in the bed in between coats of mascara, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is the order in which you layer your products. So let’s talk about that.

First and foremost, you should always start with moisturizer. I typically don’t wash my face in the morning, but you might be different. It all depends on your skin. Mine tends to be on the dry side so I don’t feel the need to wash it when I first wake up. The first thing my skin sees is Oil of Olay Moisturizer. I love that it’s got an SPF in it – that’s a must no matter what brand you choose. Moisturizer is a great base to build your other products on, and eventually your foundation (it’s your foundation’s foundation, ha!).

Next I layer on eye cream. Below my eyes goes the Roc Retinal cream to help prevent wrinkles and dark circles, on my lid goes the Urban Decay eye shadow primer. This helps anything I layer on after that to stay in place and not crease for a very very long time. Love that stuff – it’s so essential to preserve your eye shadow and Urban Decay’s really works. I typically don’t have to touch up my shadow if I’m running home in between work and an evening event.

After my eye shadow primer goes on, I apply an all over primer to my face. Think of this as the base coat for your nail polish – it’s going to smooth out the canvas and create the perfect surface for your foundation to cling to. I love this version from Arbonne, it feels like I’m applying vitamins to my face!

What I’ve just started doing, is applying BB Cream next. Some days I stop there and BB Cream is all I go with for the day. Other days I’ll add concealer along with BB Cream, but mostly often (lately) I’ll do concealer, BB Cream, then foundation. This allows me to not have to use a lot of foundation, and once the whole picture is complete I’ve got a nice dewy, uber moisturized, long lasting coverage.
